Well, Minnie...glory be, there are two of us toothless as we type. I just put mine in for quick soak, and that is as long as ,mine are out. I find it too uncomfortable to go with out any longer.

Make that three of us - mine are out only for a 15 minute soak about twice a week - other than that, they are in all the time.

Until now, one of my friends was the only person I knew who kept her teeth in all night. Dentists recommend that they come out at night to give the gums a rest. She says her gums don't need a rest, but I wonder how she knows that.....

Mine never come out they aren't false. My Mother used to take hers out every night.

The dentist told me I was wearing off my lower permanent teeth because I grit my teeth. The only remedy for that is caps, so I take my uppers out every night and in the early evening when I know no one will show up. He offered to make something to wear and prevent it, but I had rather take them out.

I take mine out every night when I go to bed. I have a tendency grit my teeth when I sleep and it make my mouth sore with my teeth in.

I am glad to see that so many people wear their teeth when they are supposed to. My MIL (when she lived with us) never wore hers (and she probably still doesn't). It would turn my stomach to have her talk to me or watch her eat without them.

My Mom would never be seen without hers. She wouldn't take them out when she had surgery until the very last second...and they were the first thing she asked for in recovery.

Thank God I still have my natural teeth....Hope I'll never loose them.

Denny has false teeth and has a terrible time with them.

He wore his first set for 27 years and they broke...he has had 4 sets since then...and even though the dentists have his old ones that fit soooo good they can't/won't make them the same...and we just can't afford right now to try it again.

The ones he has now don't fit (fall down while laughing) aren't sharpe (can't chew food)...don't look natural. they are awful.

If he soaks them he goes to his room...so no one sees him without them.

Since this is about teeth I have to tell of an interesting conversation. While waiting for DS to pick me up out in front of the VA yesterday the man sitting on the bench and I struck up a conversation. He lit up a cigarette and asked if I minded. I said no since I wasn't going to be ther for more than aminute. As the conversation went on from cigars, pipes to chewing tobacco He said he used to chew but since he lost his teeth he doesn't anymore. of course I asked how did you lose your teeh.
Apparently he ws in an accident and they took him to the hospital but left his teeth and his glasses behind and he never recovered them.

I damaged my four upper front teeth in a skating accident. Eventually the teeth died and they didn't cap back then. I wore a partial until the back teeth went bad. I am grateful for my lower real teeth. My husband had a terrible time with his lower dentures until he had implants put in.

This could only happen in a small town. My friend Dorothy and I went to a local restaurant for lunch. The waitress walked up with a napkin in her hands. There was a set of dentures in the napkin. She said she was pretty sure that they belonged to a certain woman and Dorothy kept books for their family ranch. The waitress gave the teeth to Dorothy to give to the woman. We got a good laugh over that. I do imagine she was glad to get her teeth back.

If we are telling false teeth stories...I had a friend, years ago who imbibed way too much one night and I was called to come and get her at the bar and drive her home. I got another friend to go with me and we picked Marie, who was very drunk. On the way home she yelled for me to pull over, she was going to be sick, which I did promptly, and she opened up her door, leaned out and threw up for what seemed like ten minutes. Then we got her home and safely in her house. The next morning she called and asked if I could drive her to the spot where she threw up because she was sure she lost her teeth there. We went there, and there were her teeth on the side of the road.

My story is not funny at all. We were eating at a restaurant with a cousin of my husband. I sat across from him, he removed his denture and proceeded to wipe it off with is dinner napkin. Needless to say we didn't go to dinner with them any more.

Oh, this one is funny. My first husband was water skiing for some reason his denture flew out of his mouth, he dropped the rope and caught the denture before it hit the water. LOL

Brings back memories of a sad happening. DH was hospitalised three years ago with a stroke. He got a new room-mate. An elderly man who had been in the emergency room for several days waiting for a bed on the stroke floor. They lost his teeth and he certainly was in no condition to have another set made in the foreseeable future. What was especially disturbing was the lack of willingness of the staff to look. I felt for the family to be put through this added stress even though this man might never have graduated to a full diet again. You never know.

When my husband and I had our last made, the put our soc sec number on them. There is a problem in nursing homes with patients take any dentures they can find.

We went camping with my great uncle when I was a little kid. It was a one room cabin so we all slept in the same room. In the middle of the night, we heard something moving. It was rats gnawing on my great uncles teeth. He put them in his mouth for the rest of the trip.

Mine spend the night in their own little container and the first thing that goes in my mouth in the morning. They come out right before I go to bed.

My DH leaves his in the bathroom every night, yuck!!

After spending $6,000, my dentures still do not fit well, upper or two different lowers.

I have read and been told that lowers or the hardest to get right. The uppers make me whistle, and I finally got implants for the lowers. I'm not spending any more money on dentures, so I do the best I can with what I have, which means I can't eat certain things. I have to use a lot of the "glue." I will say they look nice.

I usually soak them overnight and eat something soft for breakfast before I put them in. I am not a happy camper, denture wise.

Funniest thing I ever heard about false teeth.

My friend works at a hospital and happened to be in the room with some family members whose brother had died. One sister commented that John's mouth didn't look right. Other sister looked closer and said his dentures didn't look right. First sister said, John doesn't wear dentures! Oops, seems a nurse had put somebody's dentures in John's mouth!

I have made a joke about my situation. I ask my relatives if eating all that "glue" has made me look fat. ;-)

My mom wore dentures. Before passing, she must have had them out.

After the funeral, my sister found the dentures (dunno if she'd taken them home for her for safekeeping or what; Mom wasn't eating in the hospital).

We laughed that Mom must be steamed at us that we shipped her off to heaven without her dentures and is probably starving! (well, you know, in a made-up heaven world...)

Three teeth remain in bottom jaw, in two locations.

That denture and the resident teeth don't seem to see eye-to-eye ...

... so those dentures sit in their box almost all of the time - I think that it was on my desk, a while ago.

The top set has taken up residence on the box beside the mirror on my dresser, where they spend most of the time.

When out to lunch (if you'll pardon the expression) when wearing my "toppers" ...

... I try to remove them, as covertly as possible, before starting to eat, at which time they take up residence in my pocket. I seem to be able to eat most things without too much trouble ... though it takes some longer.

Mine only come out when i'm in the shower,and as soon as i get out they go back in.Other than that it's only during surgery,and then i make the Dr promise that they'll put them back in as soon as i go to recovery room,and they always do it.

My grandfather used to love telling us kids that his teeth were "like the stars. They come out at night" lol! We were never afraid of his teeth, even though he used to stick them out at us sometimes. If we were lucky, he would pay us a dollar to scrub them with that weird big toothbrush.

DH's father could stick his out and turn them around. Scared every single child that saw it to tears. He only wore them "for good". On holidays, if we were going out to dinner, that sort of thing.

DH has worn dentures since he was 20. He has always been told by all our dentists that it is better to leave them in except for cleaning. He doesn't soak them often. He brushes them twice a day with denture cream. Out side of his mouth of course.
