I have an invitation from a work friend who retired a couple months ago, and I haven't responded yet. She must think I don't love her anymore!

I haven't ventured into the world of Facebook.
My kids say it's a lot of myspace.

If I don't know who someone is I ask them.
If they tell me who they are and I still don't know them I block them. There's such a thing as being too nice online...as we all well know. LOL

I agree Flamey. It's so nice when the person has a short explanation of how you know each other. I've had requests from names that I don't recognize too and just ignored them unless I could figure out who they were.

I get a few request too, but don't know the person who is inviting me, or at least not from the info that is provided. I 'think' I can't even ask her who she is, and the 'from' address is a generic Facebook address. I figure a lot of it is just spoofs to try and get me to join up, since I'm not a member yet, and likely will never screw with it.

I'm new to face book too and feeling just as stoopid. SIL went on my account and invited a bunch of his and DDs friends that I know to be my friends. (I had the account but didn't do anything with it. He changed that for me.) I have been "friending" KT people. I don't understand about all these extra things. SIL just sent me a New Years Eve drink. Why?

I told you that I was vique from the kitchen table and that you had done me a sewing favor at one time, and I would like to have you as a friend on Facebook. Your picture looked familiar and I thought your name was Susan. I am still learning how to navigate the site and apparently pushed the wrong button when I finished my message. I went back and checked and you are right, there is no record of me contacting you. I feel so foolish, please forgive me and be my friend. Vique.

I'm joining the parade of confusees! I don't know the real names of some of the KT people, so haven't responded. Those I know I am happy to comply. I initially went to the site in order to see pics of great GS. Some people that went to high school when I was the secretary there have found me so that was fun, too.

Flamey, I just send them a message, asking "who are you anyway?" LOL

and I just started to totally ignore "presents and all other features". I just got on there, to stay in touch with a friend. I am going down, to just have friends on there, that I actually know in real life, cept Anne. She is special. :)

I think I'm going to just solve a bunch of mysteries by asking in the comment section "who are you, what name do I know you by?" lol Some of them I think I know, but not all of 'em!

You mean the allow button, right? When clicking on that, it takes you to a page that shows various snowballs, or plants or fish..whatever it is that you clicked on.

It shows those items and allows you to select one to send back to the person who sent you one, and also to people on your friend list.
You'd select the snowball, plant or whatever, click continue then you see your friends and you just go from there.
It's just silly fun...at least some people...myself included...think so.

Yes, Facebook does take some getting used to but connecting with friends old and new is fun!

Di, when I click on the thing, I get taken somewhere completely different- and it shows me my photo and then it said I did something cosmetic to my photo, which I didn't. (If I was gonna have work done, it would be on the REAL me, not on a photo!) lol I understand about the fun part of the items, but they aren't working right for me and it's just dragging me deeper into the confusion and the unknown. I think I'll have to ignore those things for the time being. Although, if someone threw a sheep at me, I'd see that sheep and raise 'em an elephant!

I have a question too. You should be able to search for yourself and find yourself right? I put my name in with my maiden name as I my middle name... but my name will only pop up like one in five times when I just key in my first and last name. (I have a very unique name and am the only one with it -although there are some with my same last name).

I tried taking out my maiden-middle name altogether and trying it, but it still doesn't consistantly pull me up. I would probably feel better if my name never came up at all; but I seriously hit refresh and it will all of a sudden come up after a few tries and then not pop up the next time. It's like their search engine isn't working right. I key in my same name and sometimes, 4 people will pop up, sometimes 5, and sometimes it takes me just to one guy with a name similar to mine, and very rarely it will go to me -the only one with my name. It's not consistant at all. Should I tell them? Any ideas???

I have a Facebook account, but don't have a clue how to use it. It says you have to use "real" info, but no way am I putting my real last name there, so I cheated and used my first name and middle name. I'm not going to put all sorts of personal stuff on the internet. Noone will find me, I guess, but I really don't care.

I don't have a facebook I do have a myspace but I only got it so I can check up on the kids sites...syd has a facebook and loves it but it is all confusing to me...stacy

Linda, be careful... you really are agreeing when you use that site that you will provide your real first and last name. Becoming a member opens up info to you on the other members so it's really sort of a safety thing for everyone. I 'think' using fake info is what they got that mom who was corresponding with a teenager who killed herself on.

If you don't want to give your real/full name and really use it as a contact site or to track down old friends, I would just close out your account. Otherwise, it could sort of just seem like you're stalking/hacking. And, I take it they do have your real e-mail, right? So, you did provide some real info. and could be tracked down if they really wanted to crack down.

I think that when someone does a friend request, you can then access their profile. Go to their info page and see if they've included work or school info. That usually helps me figure out how I know them if I don't recognize their name or picture.

I tried twice to get into the KT gang but it doesn't do anything.

Someone invited me a long time ago, but I'm such a skeptic about these kind of places that I haven't signed up.

I get occasional e-mails telling me I need to reply to some place like that. A friend sent me an invitation to join whatever the heck it is. I answered her one time and now get sent things from there that I'm not interested in having. I'll just continue to delete.

In Facebook, if you look at the top you will see the word Friends. Click on that, select Invite Friends and once there, look over to the right and you will see some logos of email accounts and a link for Import Email Addresses.

A window will come up with all the emails currently in your email address book (assuming you use one of the email clients listed on the right). You can select all and press submit to invite everyone in your address book to join you at Facebook or you can select individual people to invite.

Thanks to my DD, I am getting the hang of it. It's still not easy to figure out but there really isn't a lot to figure out. The snowball, cards, christmas trees, drinks... are just for fun- nothing more. Since I signed up, though, I get nasty little sexual emails sent to me to open... It was not happening until I got an account. I just delete when I see "spam", don't even get near them. There was a complaint filed a while back that Facebook was taking on themselves to send you friend requests from people you didn't know.... be careful.

I like Facebook and have been using it on and off for over a year now - more now that I have a computer. If you are like my sister and don't care to know what your "friends" have been doing or don't want to look at the comments on pictures you can just go to your "Profile" page. The first page you see is the "home" page.

I ignore most of the requests I receive. I just can't keep up with everything. I'm too busy feeding and taking care of my virtual pet Elvis and all my friend's pets. LOLOL You should see this little lab puppy. Until last week it was a Facebook application and then the creators upgraded the pets and all heck broke lose. I have never seen people get upset over a change in a computer pet. There are over 3 million users worldwide. The creators spent their Christmas holiday restoring everyone's dog's to what they used to be and gave you the option of trading your dog for a new version dog or cat. Let me know if you want an invite and a virtual pet. It is addicting but a great idea for people who can't have a real pet. LOL

When you use your real name on sign up you can set the security feature so that only the people you accept as your friends can see your profile or any information about you. You don't have to put a picture of yourself on either. You don't even have to put on where you live. I live in Canada but the closest Facebook network to me is Detroit so that is what is listed on my Profile.

Imabest, I think you know my last name so do a search for me or email me through the KT and I will give it to you. I am a friend of Jodi's so you can find me on her friend list too.

I couldn't sleep last night so I played some games on Facebook. Bowling Buddies is fun and so is Word Challenge. I am trying to beat my cousin Hannah who is playing from Iraq where she is stationed.

I have 14 application requests on Facebook but never seem to get to them. I always get to the friend requests first and add them.

I am one who is also just ignoring it. Two of my daughters have tried to get me to join. We used to use Instant Messaging years ago and that was ok, this sounds too complicated. If they want to contact me, e-mail me! Being retired, I check my e-mails often.

I have Facebook but I am not crazy about it. Like most of you, I get request and do not know who they are.
So, I let them sit there same for the snowballs, presents and other misc items; I do not have the time for all that.
I like 'Myspace' so much better and you can always find me there!

I like Facebook. I joined sometime in November. It took me a while to figure it out but now I've gotten use to it and check it about twice a day. I only add people I know from my real life, past and present or, folks I know from here at the KT. I don't pay any attention to the snowball-fight-tree-decorations-present 'stuff'...don't know and don't care. Facebook is a good way to keep up with friends & family. Fast and easy.

I like Facebook too. I still don't know how to do everything, but my family is really spread out, and it is great for keeping in touch.

A hint...when requesting to be someone's friend, you can "add a message", and if you're from the KT, you should say who you are. I always say "susan_on from the KT". Then the person you are communicating with will know exactly who you are.

I use Facebook, but I only have friends and family I really know. I for the most part started ignoring all the gifts, snowballs etc. stuff. No one cares if you ignore them.
I do like receiving Flair, their fun. Family members and I use Facebook to keep in touch and share pictures.
My daughter says Facebook used to be different and easier to use and many people were upset when they changed it.

I love love love facebook. I found one of my best friend that moved away when we were 7 and haven't seen her since. It is so great to see everyones friends and see the connections that everyone has. Plus I like the ability to chat, one night I was talking to 2 former students, my cousin and bil all at the same time.

Linda, you're not really using a fake name. You're using your first, and you middle names. They are your real names. I've seen lots of people do that. and you're not stalking and harassing people.

Nobody can read anything about you that you don't post on Facebook. I do have my phone numbers in my info, but not my address. I have it so only "friends" can see my photos, not friends of friends. And you have to be on my "friends" list to even see my profile. You can't even view my friends list without being on my "friends" list. The gifts and snowball fights are all just for fun. If you don't like all the applications, you can block them. You do have that option. Also, if there is someone on Facebook you don't want to find you, rather than avoid using your name, simply 'block' that person. That way they don't see anything about you, not even that you have an account. I've been on Facebook for a year and a half and really like it. I play Scarab Solitaire almost every day. Also love Scrabble but preferred it before Parker Brothers forced Scrabulous to shut down. Their version was actually better.

Facebook is as safe as you set your profile and applications to. That's completely up to you. If my best friend from childhood hadn't put her last name on Facebook, I'd have never found her. I just wish more married women used their maiden names on Facebook too, which is why my last name is hyphenated. I've only found one school friend. You don't have to post your employment, your address, your phone numbers. And if you do post your phone number, you can make it private. Just go into the privacy settings.

I hated MySpace, but love Facebook.

Well I would like to apologize to those who have contacted me and I have ignored! If I don't know the name I just click ignore. And I don't do the snowballs or gifts either. I tried once and it took me to a place I did not want to be. So I just ignore those requests as well. If anyone wants to chat or send me a message please tell me you are from the KT as I might not know your "real" name.
I do enjoy Facebook though. I have found some old friends on it and talk with them on a regular basis now.

Well, MY complaint (and everybody has one! LOL) is that I have to have my password request sent to me everytime I try to get into the site! It will NOT let me use my password - says it is invalid. So, then I send in to have it reset, put in the same password and it lets me in - THAT TIME! LOL

What am I doing wrong? (I mean regarding Facebook - don't get cute, you guys!)

My daughter invited me to join facebook yesterday, so I could see pics that my son in law put up of the new condo they applied for. He has a new job on the east coast and the condo is overlooking Chesepeke Bay. What a pretty area! I hope they get it so I can visit :-)

One of my nephews got me on Facebook last year, and I think it's harmless fun. Even my former daughter-in-law is on and requested me as a friend. I think it's fun to see what people are up to, plus I can see pics of some of my nieces & nephews.
