Estee Lauder has a foundation called Doublewear which does not sweat or rub off. You need to use a cold cream or makeup remover to remove it. I've used it for years.. the formula has changed, but I have not yet tried the newer formula. It is still supposed to have the same staying power and coverage. The ladies at the Estee Lauder counter will give you some free samples to try. It is about $40. a bottle.

Your question is a little hard to answer not knowing what you'd like the makeup to accomplish or your skin type. Are you sunkissed (do you have some color, not pale like those of us living in the pacific northwest). Major flaws or problem areas you want to diminish?

At 64, I wear tinted moisturizer, blush on my skin, do a little with my eyes and always lipgloss. So many of the foundations with more weight seem to settle into fine lines and wrinkles as the day wears on, accentuating them so I keep it light.

My problem with drug store cosmetics is the inability to try them, packages are sealed and they don't give samples. I'd go to a department store, get some help, leave with samples before making an expensive purchase. If your weather is that different than VA, test when you will be indoors and climate controlled a few hours.:)

You'd better get moving if the wedding in is just 2 weeks. If the bride doesn't have someone there doing makeup for the wedding party who could fit you in, you'll want a little time to practice so you are confident the products work for all day, don't change color or fade. And most of all comfortable so you are enjoying yourself.

For my DS's wedding, I went to a Bare Essential's store and had them do my make up a few weeks before, and bought a starter kit with the colors they used. I tried to wear it every day before the wedding to get used to applying it correctly and get the look I wanted. I normally don't wear makeup. Since the wedding, I do occasionally apply it for the day. Quick and easy. I have fairly oily skin, but they cater to all skin types. I was pleased.

I have no answer what you should get but maybe you could have someone else do your makeup? I had a girlfriend do mine. A long time ago, she used to do the makeup for brides, mother of the bride or groom. I know of others that have gone to cosmetic counters and got theirs done. I realize you don't know the area but perhaps if you arrive there a couple of days early, you could try someone out. This is just another thought.

I agree with morz8 - and we are the same age. The difference in our foundation though is that my skin is naturally extremely dry and absorbs everything. So I wear a full coverage foundation that looks as if I am wearing a tinted treatment - this on top of a hydrating serum, a night cream during the day to avoid the day moisturizer with a combined SPF - skin can't handle it - and a moisturizing sunscreen. My foundation has oil. I use a cream blush and a moisturizing loose powder. I also wear a lipstick with a liner - gloss has never suited me. So basically so much depends on your skin type - dryness etc. A good foundation to me is necessary - you can get good drug store products for the rest but a good foundation will generally hold up well and can be "brought back" with a light dusting of loose powder. I would try a few of the dept. store cosmetic counters - try to look for a sales associate who seems to know what he/she is doing and have a trial run or two. I buy everything from 2 ladies in Toronto - despite the brand - they know everything changes on me and how dry my skin is - plus the rosacea. Since you don't currently wear foundation the look might at first seem horrifying to you - until you get used to the look so I would start now. If you know the colours that really suit you stick to them. So many people go with the colours of the moment - not me - very few colours suit me so I basically have one of everything. Now if only I weren't so acidic - the only foundation I can use that won't turn weird on my yellow toned, very pale skin is Cle de Peau Satin. And it is NOT CHEAP! I hope everything goes well - but please, start looking now.

For my sons wedding in April I went to Nordstroms and spent ALOT of $ on makeup....it dawned on me later it probably would have been cheaper to have it done by a professional makeup artist...and probably would have looked better too!

Joaniepoanie, that is exactly what we did for our son's wedding.
Our daughter inlaw contacted a makeup artist who came to the bride's parent's home the day of the wedding. The bride, bridesmaids and Mothers all had our makeup professionally done. It was well worth the money.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I should have given more information. I'm 62 and sun-kissed. I will probably have dry skin once I'm up North. I have had makeup done at the Dept. stores but as morz8 pointed out, after a while the foundation settles into the lines and makes them stand out.
I would be scared to have my makeup done professionally. I guess I'm one of those people who thinks if anything can go wrong it will. I will check with the Bride to see what's available.
I was looking to see if any of you swore by Lancome or Clinique, etc. or if there was a line specifically for my mature skin.

I am 'older', too. I now only wear Bare Minerals powder, a touch of eye shadow and a little lip tint. It works well for me and stays on until I take it off.

Imho, foundation only settles in the facial creases and makes them more pronounced - not the case with Bare Minerals powder - I love this stuff!!!

Went in for her to analyze my skin, saw the colors I was wearing to the wedding. I bought what she recommended, but not all of it. And went back the day of the wedding for my makeup to be applied.

The problem I have always had with foundation....expensive or drugstore brands....looks great for an hour or two and then it "disappears" and it looks like I never even put it on.

I wear Estee Lauder Double Wear Mineral rich loose powder makeup. It is Estee Lauder's version of Bare Minerals. Only thing is that I went to the counter at EL and they did a make over on me for free and I bought most of the products. The woman that did my make over took into account my age, my wrinkles and dark spots and the dark circles under my eyes.

I think my make up looks pretty good. Maybe Glenda or Linda will verify that for you.. I am 51, with medium skin tone..

I'd suggest Sephora. Go there, have them make you up, and you're all set. :)

I went to ULTA this morning with the intent of buying a load of makeup / Bare Minerals. I asked someone for help who said those people may not come in until 9. It was 8:45. She looked at the chick in charge, for confirmation, who went on to answer the phone. I walked around and walked out. I was the only one in the store!
You know who was helpful? The cosmetic lady at Walgreens. I took my time and bought what I thought I needed and have been playing with makeup all day. The first look was a disaster but the second time was the charm. I feel I can do this for the rehearsal dinner and the wedding.

On ET the other night they were saying that the models on the show used Boots #7 Photo Fix Wrinkle Filler & Primer. Walgreens was listed as a store that sold it so I checked at my local store & they didn't carry it. I then ordered it online yesterday. I have never used it before but at this point in time (70) thought it would be worth a try. :)
