The Fun Has Begun!

Well, got my first batches of Honey Date Nut Bars and Party Apricot bars done last night. Will be heading downstairs shortly to finish another batch of the Apricot Bars and then on to the rest. If all goes well, I should be completely done with my baking by Thursday. Then can get it all ready for packaging and delivery.

I decided to try using parchment paper this year after reading about it in a couple of cooking posts. It sure made getting the Honey Date Nut Bars out of the pan a whale of a lot easier. Don't ask me why it took me so long to use it.

Wow, good going Steve!!

When I make my Butter Tart Squares, I line the glass dish with parchment. Easy to life out the whole thing, and then cut into squares.

Plus, the pan is clean and ready to make a new batch!

apricot bars! hmmmm, yum!

I found out the hard way why wax paper is not a good substitute for parchment. Boy does it smell!
Last weekend our church youth group made cookies to sell for an mission trip. A good friend and one of the youth mom's let us use her bakery to make the cookies. She uses parchment for all her huge baking pans, it saves so much time in cleaning, which anyone can appreciate. The cookies were delish too.

Well, we're heading to Dallas for a couple of days, maybe 3 this time. Hopefully, this is the last trip we have to make for a while. ;-) I'll check in when I can. I'm enjoying the pics and conversation. I can't wait to have a big, beautiful garden like some of you have! It's got my mouth watering.... And, yes, I have catalogs starting to come in, too. I'm taking them with me on my trip to thumb through them and most likely start new additions to my want list for next year! Ummmm...this post is from Dec. 1st & today is Dec. 12th ...& am still decorating! Well, I miss a day now & then to go shopping or do a little volunteer work ...I think it's about time to put the 'totes away' & call it good! Time to wrap pkgs & work on some Christmas gifts...LOL! Anyway, for Jane...this is one of those 'remote control' candles WORKING again this yr! I thought you would be pleased to know that ...cause you use them so beautifully on your mantle. Neeter3148 - no worries, GW is the perfect place for all of us to share our experiences. Good luck to you as well and I am looking forward to following your events too! We waited 11 years to reno the kitchen - first traveling, taking care of other needed house fixes and then, most importantly, having kids. Now that my boys are 4 and 5 1/2 the no kitchen transition is not so bad. Our plans are modest but with all the right changes, we're certain the new kitchen will not only fit our laid-back style, but we also won't be stealing the kid's college tuition :). Mustbnuts, I'll follow along right there with ya! Thanks for the well wishes. Our "crew" has been a one man show, so far. Our GC's father is his right hand man. He is AMAZING! He's neat, beyond tidy & 100 percent type-A personality and loves to work alone. His main expertise is late 1800 Victorians, so we know we are in good hands. He actually commented that our 1965 rancher is so great - no surprises. That was music to my ears! He has all the perfect combo of traits for my job. vwhippiechick, thanks to you & your DH we did not have to bust our budget. We are doing SS and doing it ourselves...who am I kidding? DH is doing it himself. All the information you provided on GW was so great and detailed that my husband is ready to install. With that, the electrician didn't show today - something came up. Hopefully he'll arrive tomorrow and supposedly he's going to work on Saturday as well. I'm certainly not holding my breath. Holly

I used parcnhemt this year and last year. I love it! I will re-use a sheet once. And never substutute wax paper or a brown paper bag cut up-they burn and STINK.

kayjones I posted them on the 21st of November. Just type in my name and the recipes should come up.

Please note that I left the temperature off the Party Apricot bars. They should bake at 350 degrees. Enjoy.

On to the next 3 dozen of something else. Whee!

I use parchment for all my baking. I even line my loaf pan with it when I make meat loaf.

I started my Christmas candy making and baking yesterday although I didn't actually bake anything. I made crispy truffles, chocolate and caramel covered Lorna Doones and pretzels (the caramel came out perfect, phew!) and Welsh cookies (which are made on a griddle, not baked).

jasdip, thanks for posting the link so kay could get the recipes. Can't figure out why it didn't come up when she tried typing in my name.

Second batches finished yesterday. Used the parchment paper for my one recipe that turned out o.k. last year, but even better this year thanks to the parchment paper.

Third and fourth batches today and then a rest before making the pumpkin bread on Friday. Then batch them all up and delivery on the 24th.
