Try SpotShot. Blue and orange can and it is a miracle cleaner! Never seen anything it won't remove! They have it at Walmart and our grocery store carries it too.

dot sooo very sorry about the remote and stain...wish you had my rug shampooer! if you do have one, be sure to go ove the area several times to get out as much moisture as possible and use a fan...it dries faster...

I'm sorry for your not-so-nice morning. But I like your attitude of "This too shall pass".

My DH got up in the middle of the night to visit the rest room--slipped and fell. So he has a nice gash in the middle of his eyebrow...and his eye will probably turn black. But I'm thankful he wasn't seriously injured.

Wanda, if he gets a black eye, tell him to think up a creative story to explain it. more fun that way. LOL After I had my cuppa, I treated the stain with Woolite Oxyclean spray. The stain is much less noticeable. I'll be giving it another treatment or two today. That stuff has always worked for me. The biggest puzzle is why the TV quit working when only the remote got drenched. Hopefully our grandson, in his 4th year of collage for electrical engineering, will have an answer tomorrow.

Try putting the remote in a bag of rice to get the moisture out. It works on cells phone and it can't hurt at this point.

Vinegar and water may work on the carpet stain. I hope your day goes better

Peroxide is also a good stain remover. I use Folex all the time for carpet stains. It is great and available at Lowes.

Sorry you have this cleanup job ahead of you and I hope you can get the tv to work.

dotmom, when I did a search, one place said to hold the power button on the tv in for approx 5 seconds.

Dot, if you have spray bathroom cleaner Scrubbing Bubbles, try that too. I find it takes out all kinds of stains. Of course try it in an inconspicuous area first to test for colorfastness. The middle of the living room probably isn't very inconspicuous. :-)

I'm still working on the carpet. The stain is better, maybe I'll try Scrubbing bubbles. Hubs brought the little tV he had in his bedroom, and moved the flat screen in there..... it came on. all of this electronic stuff is soooooo over my head, but it just didn't make sense that it would stop working when the coffee didn't get on it. sigh*** guess I'll chalk this up to One of Lives Little Mysteries. unplug the TV and plug it back in. We had a TV a few years ago that had to be reset that way from time to time.

The tv isn't receiving any message because the remote is not working. You can turn on the tv. with the external buttons on the t.v. itself. A universal remote will solve the problem.

It's possible the remote is stuck and sending the signal to the TV. Pull the battery, which anytime you have a battery appliance get wet, the first thing to do is pull the battery. Then the TV should work from the set. Wash off the remote, dry it and it might be fine. Dry it well, over a week or two and moving air helps. The rice bag or silica, Damp Rid or something will help.

When we had the store we used plain glass cleaner to clean keyboards that had spills or sludge buildups. Drench it and a slight rinse, then a thorough drying in front of a fan, moved often so all moisture would work out of all the spaces and it saved many a keyboard. Although keyboards were more expensive then. When they got super cheap, I told people to toss them and buy new.

The problem with universal remotes is two-fold in my book: 1) They're not truly "universal". I've got 3 or 4 in a drawer that don't work with various TVs; and 2) You don't have access to all of the controls on the TV such as brightness, programming, etc. You have on/off and volume and channel changing essentially. I prefer the right remote for the set.

Annoying? Yes. But don't cry over spilled coffee. No injuries, and as we say in Minnesota, "could be worse". And my favorite line is from Young Frankenstein, Could be worse.... could be raining (with the rumble of thunder in the background. :)

And Dotmom, at least it was the TV and not the coffeemaker this time, huh? :D

Hey, there, Cynic. Merry Christmas. Both the TV & remote are working again. Don't know how or what we did right, but I don't care... they are working. Nuff said. The coffee stain is gone too.....for the moment. I put a rug over it. I've been too busy yesterday and today to work on it. The snowman sounds like fun. I always say winter is going to come every year, we might as well enjoy it. Too bad I don't practice what I preach.

BTW, you used one of my favorite stain removers. Out of sight out of mind as they say and many say I'm out of my mind!

It just struck me I use a baking soda paste to remove coffee stains in mugs (and they're gone instantly), I wonder how baking soda would work on your stain?

spotshot as mentioned is the best carpet cleaner I have ever used it will remove any stain like magic. I keep plenty of it handy because my husband tends to have many of those coffee accidents.
I pick it up in the 3 can pack at sams and costco, but also find it at most grocery stores. I prefer the regular original formula in the metal spray can, it is owned by the same company as WD-40.

I'll give baking soda a try today, and I'll plan on buying some Spot Shot, when I go shopping . The rug also looks kinda conspicuous, because it isn't in a place one would put one, so it kinda advertises 'I;m hiding something" LOL

Spot Shot IS amazing! DD had a glass of grape juice that spilled on the dining room table. We got the table all cleaned with a washcloth. 2 DAYS later, I happen to notice something under the table...on the light gray carpet...closer inspection...2 day old GRAPE JUICE! It had spilled through the split in the table, and neither of us thought to look under. I figured it was a done deal. Came to the KT and I believe it was Jodi_CA and Jenni_CA that both recommended Spot Shot! I got some...and it WORKED! I was more than amazed!

I've always been totally happy with granulated OxyClean. I'll never forget the time my husband was eating a big bowl of spaghetti, on his lap, when it shifted and landed on a new, ivory colored carpet.

I was out of town at the time (or he wouldn't have been eating the spaghetti on his lap in front of the TV). We decided, over the phone, that he would try the OxyClean first. It not only completely removed the stain, but we've never been able to see any kind of residual coloration, either. The carpet was transformed in moments.

So, that's all we've ever used on our carpets, from that moment.
