I finally woke my 14 ft. 'baby' up from her winter nap.
Comments (13)Hi Kaotickelly. Who says that's not me, but my son? Yeah, it's my 6' son, so you can get some idea how tall the palm is from the pic. Thanks Alex. Yeah, this past winter is far different than the -45 and -39 temperatures we had about 15 years ago. Last year it got down to -20, which is pretty normal. Denninmi, no hero here... just a guy with some crazy ideas! Islandbreeze, once the Trachys get established, they will really take off. I actually wish it would grow SLOWER! Chadec, I thought the Trachy was a fast grower, but the Washy grows twice as fast. I'm kind of scared of it. Yikes!...See MoreWoke up to an open fridge door-grrr!
Comments (12)I have an Eric to do things like that. So I woke up this morning to the back hatch of my minivan wide open. We got home from his hockey game at 10:30 last night. I asked him to be sure to put his gear in the garage (or my van would STINK the next day). Little while later I asked if he locked the van and closed the garage. He had not. So he went to the garage, pointed the key ring out the door and pushed the lock button, the closed the garage. Only he had not CLOSED the van! I went out at 8am to get my cell phone, which I left charging in the van overnight. That's when I found the van wide open! It was in the high 20's here last night, but I guess up north it would have been worse, at least it was also dry here. And my cell phone was still in my van... which a text message received at 11:30pm from my next door neighbor saying this..."The back of your van is open." Next time, skip the text message and close my van while you're out there having your cigarette! Sheesh! for DS and Sheesh! for the neighbor! I woke DS up at 8:03 and told him to go scrape the frost off the INSIDE of the van windows!...See MoreMe when I woke up this morning
Comments (9)Thanks for the kind comments. The pain before surgery was excruciating. I went to one surgeon, found out I had to have someone take me and drive me home which I understand, but they said someone had to stay with me the first night. I had no one. So I went to another surgeon, same story, so I wasn't going to have it done. The first surgeon's assistant called and said I could stay over night in the hospital so I scheduled again. In the mean time I call the hospital and asked why I could not take a cab home from the hospital. I kept climbing the ladder until I found a supervisor or someone in power that said that was just a suggestion not a mandate. Won that one. The surgery was scope and took about 15 minutes. I told the doc before that I can't take pain pils.........they never believe me. He wrote me a prescription for a weak one. I have 3 half inch incisions in my knee. When I woke I could walk without pain, just sore. Knew that was to good to be true. The next morning it really hurt to bend my knee. Came home in a cab and rested the rest of the day. I finally fill the prescription, took one, didn't seem to bother me, took two at midnight and woke from dreams to nausea. It lasted until a few hours ago. The pain is not so intense now since I started keeping my leg stiff/flat footed. I start therapy Monday morning and don't know how I will endure it. My knee is stiff and only bends a little bit. The worst part is nights without sleep. There is no way I can lay down without pain. I finally got up at 4 AM this morning and slept in the recliner. Of course the pain had lessened with the pills, but won't go there again....See MoreWoke up to a leaking water heater
Comments (10)Thank you, all. We finally found a guy with a license and he was here this afternoon to take a look. In the meantime, I had done some reading to familiarize myself with brands--he will be putting in a Bradford-White tomorrow. (Fifty bucks off for waiting until tomorrow. :) ) It's crazy-expensive, over two thousand, but then everything is higher here and he knew we were in no circumstances to do a lot of checking around--there aren't a lot of licensed plumbers who do this, as far as I could tell from my couple of hours of googling. We did a little haggling and his company has good reviews so yes, Scone, we're biting the bullet. Also glad to know a pipe did not burst in the wall, as we had feared. My city has fairly stringent regulations so there is a little more work involved in bringing us up to permit speed, and we will keep the re-circulator. Chisue, I read your post of some years ago--it was nice to see a familiar name on the plumbing forum. (I sure am grateful for all these gw forums for opinions that aren't attached to a possible sale!) When you say connections, are you talking about the valves? This guy is putting in better, heavier ones than what we currently have. Oops, I forgot to answer Bob. Yes, it's a gas water heater. Lucille, the tank isn't empty and we're using it a little bit, turning it on and off when we absolutely need it, but I appreciate the advice. I was surprised to learn we can keep it in the little ventilated closet--would hate to lose some garage space where I keep gardening implements and a little table....See MoreSara-Ann Z6B OK
