I'll Share My Recipe if you Share Yours Dec.9

Sugarplums, made with glaceed fruit, originated in Portugal. Now, we use dried fruit, with fruit juices to bind the mixture.

You can easily prepare you own version by finely-chopping various dried fruit, stirring in orange and lemon juice and/or sherry and brandy.

Form into balls, roll in sugar and wrap in foil. You can also try this, recipe, halved or quartered, if you like.

SUGAR PLUMS

1 lb dried figs

1 lb dried dates

1 lb dried apricots

1 lb seedless raisins

1/4 lb walnuts

1/4 lb blanched almonds

1/4 ob pistachios

1/4 lb Brazil nuts

1/4 lb crystallized ginger

grated rind of 3 oranges

enough lemon juice, orange juice, sherry or brandy to bind mixture

fruit sugar

Grind the dried fruits, nuts and ginger to a coarse cut.

Add the orange rind and mix in well. Add liquid; shape mixture into balls, and roll in fruit sugar.

Place in candy cups or wrap in coloured plastic wrap or foil. Tie with a ribbon and if you like, hang on the tree.
