Our local fellow saw his shadow so, 6 more weeks of winter. Since we haven't really had winter, it wouldn't bother me at all!! Temps have been above freezing so our snow is almost all gone.

Two oddities under the bird feeder yesterday. This pale Grey squirrel and...Redwing blackbirds (along with the Starlings and Doves here) These would be this years hatchlings with the light stripe on the wings. We have never had the Redwings at this time of year. Normally they pass through here in early March, and back through in September.

Somewhat less than pleasant weather as the ferry arrives on Block Island the day before Thanksgiving.

Oh Bob, Block Island is one of my favorite places in the world. Have been there many, many times.

Isn't the weather rotten more than good on Block Island?

What is the attitude/mind set of the locals in your town. Lots happening there in the past months.

Its only my second time there in 20-some years. My wife's family used to go there every summer for the month of August, and shortly after we started dating her family had a large reunion trip to the island. It happened to be the first time I met any of her family, and there sure were a lot of them. That trip (which was in August, years ago) the weather was mostly good, this trip the weather was cold, windy and rainy. So by my scientific sampling the weather is rotten about 50% of the time.

Doesn't this look like great beach weather?

Where is Block Island? I've never heard of it - must go google!

It is just south of Rhode Island, about an hour-long ferry ride from Point Judith, Rhode Island. My brother-in-law drove me and a niece around the island on Thanksgiving because I had to see (and photograph) the two lighthouses. The above is about a 20 minute hike from the parking area, but with the wind it was cold enough that I decided that walking 2 minutes and using a zoom lens was sufficient.

Here is a view from the main beach back toward the ferry dock and the "downtown" area

It's just like anyplace in New England or especially by the ocean. It can be lovely or it can be awful. I've seen plenty of both. A good friend of mine has a house there and she invites us at least once a year, maybe more.
