As much as I love Christmas and all the trappings it brings...it's time to put it all away.

Dust from the woodstoves causes problems with my ornaments as some are too small/fragile to clean properly.

Another threat, this year anyway, is Holly, who has, after three weeks, discovered the Christmas tree. Maybe three weeks ago she wasn't tall enough to see it?

At any rate I would rather do the un-decorating than let her do it. So far the ornaments have been spared her attention but the artificial poinsettas and red velvet ribbon are big ticket items.

Before I take down my living room, I'd like to share a few of my favorite ornaments. All are angels or nativity scenes I have collected since I had my first apartment thirty or more years ago. Some are Walmart cheapos. Others are collector items. All are precious to me.

Lori, I love your ornaments especially the first one. Cute little cowboy/cowgirl angels. I've never seen anything like them around here.

melly, you live in a Barbie Dream House? LOL I'm telling Makayla that, she'll be so jealous. You are right about the sprinkles tasting good, Amanda was eating them right out of the box. The kids really liked the different colored ones in the little boxes and they were eating them like candy. I still have some left, though, Makayla is going to have a "sleep over" with me in the next couple of weeks and we're going to put some on waffles. Thanks again for the treat, it made our cookie baking so much fun. I'll have to tell Makayla and Bud they can put them in hot chocolate too! Annie

I'm with Kevin, above. Stone slab countertops aren't going away, if for no other reason than that they can be more economical than laminate or tile. A good tile-setter here in LA will charge $125/linear foot or more for installation. If you shop right, you can find prefab 8' long granite countertops for as little as $150, with installation and minor fabrication for a few hundred dollars more. It won't be the finest workmanship at that price, but still, you can get a basic 8' countertop with 4" backplash for $600 or less, installed, while the tile-setter's labor alone will be twice that, without adding in the cost of tile, mortar, grout or hardibacker. Unless you're buying prefab laminate counters at the big box store, toting them home yourself, and doing your own templating, cutting, and installation, you'll be hard put to match the price of those prefab stone counters. Special-order laminate costs about twice as much as prefab stone. So much for "In depth" reporting at CNN.

boxerpup, I'm a little late reading this but still want to send my heartfelt sympathies and say that I love that beautiful face. What many people don't understand is that losing a well loved pet is like losing a family member. I've lost many pets over the years and I now have four boys who's ages are 14, 11 and two are 9. I see age creeping up on them every day, especially the 14 year old and it breaks my heart to think of losing them. Unfortunately that is part of loving and having pets. I would rather love and be loved by a pet and endure the hurt tho than to do without the joy and love that they bring into our lives and it sounds like C brought plenty of both into yours. C will live in your heart and your memories forever and no other dog will ever take her place as she has her own special nook in your heart belonging to her alone. I'm sure, tho, there is still room in your heart for another furbaby to make it's place one day.

Cute ornaments, Lori! They'd be right at home on our tree. I took my tree down Sunday. I get very sentimental when the tree goes up, lovingly placing each ornament on the tree. It's quite a different story when I take them off. When it's over for me, it's over. :-)

All of your ornaments are precious Lori. I especially love the little cowboy angel, in boots, holding his hat in front of him. I've never seen ornaments like yours before.

Lori, it looks like you have almost as many cowgirl angels as I have bicycles on my tree. :) LOL

Mine will come down tomorrow. Very cold tomorrow, for Oklahoma standards.. and I won't be wanting to go outside. ;)

Oh, how sweet! I hadn't seen little cowboy/girl angels around here either but maybe I haven't been looking. You'd think we'd have 'em in Texas. I'd love to see your whole tree.....if it's not too late!

Love your angels. My cousin has a tree decorated with only angels and icicles. Very classy. My tree is trying to commit suicide by falling over (twice). First the cat jumped on it, then my daughter brushed against it. I think it's time to pack it up.

I have had great fun the past twenty some odd years collecting and displaying my angel and nativities.

The angel reading to the bird is from a set of four. I bought them before I got married from a coworker's wife. They could be Christmas Around the World?:

I know these are from the Christmas Around the Word company. My neighbor, who moved many years ago, had a party and I bought these from her:

Each year I pick up as many new ornaments as I can at after Christmas clearance sales. Here's what I found the other day while in the city:

Another good time of the year for new ornaments is the first week Christmas is displayed at stores such as Walmart, Kmart and Shopko:

My tree is artificial and quite old.
Poinsettias and red velvet ribbon fill in the holes very well...

Ok, I have been collecting santas... I now need to do the nati vity ones. I LOVE the charlie brown ones. And the naked cowboy angels. Those made me smile....
