A not so wonderful ending to a a good day,Rhiannon breaks her leg

Well we went to a neighboring town and went and saw Santa Claus and got our treat bags. The kids had such a great time and were so excited. After words in the small town they have a free skate in the community building. We got skates for everyone, mama included and went skating. We had a blast, it was funny watching the 2 and 3 year old skating and smiling at Santa. Well Rhiannon our oldest went skating over to her dad and fell down tripping over her feet and landed on her skate. The poor girl was fussing and crying like crazy and by the time we got home it was numb and she couldn't put any pressure on it. So I dropped off the hubby and kids and took her to the ER. And darned it if she didn't have a spiral break of her tibia in her leg. The poor thing is in such pain, with only tylenol and advil to take. Please keep us in your prayers, it is the worst thing in the world when your baby is hurting and there is nothing you can do.

Seedmama, I'll file away that info about the scorpion sting and ammonia for the next sting. This was my first scorpion sting in 6 or 7 years. We had lots of scorpions the first few years, including inside the house, which seems typical in new homes here, but not many recently. I DID hear you honking as you went down I35 this time, and told Tim "There she goes again....." lol I bet Houston was awful, weather-wise. When is their humidity not in the killer range? I know our dew point here was as high as 75 yesterday, and someone from Texas told me their dewpoints there were in the 80s. As far as I know, we've never hit the 80s in the dewpoint here in southcentral OK, although those of you in central thru northeastern OK might have since y'all have more humidity than us most of the time. Thanks for reminding me that April was weird. hee hee Do we ever have a month when our weather is not odd? Maybe October of some years? Diane, Any rain is good. I hope some falls here...they've put a 20-30% chance in every day in the seven day forecast after today. It is not much of a chance, but any chance is better than no chance. In some areas, the cracks in the clay are almost 1" wide. I am getting a bad feeling about this summer, Maybe it is because last summer was cooler than average in June and most of July and wetter than average, but this June seems so much hotter and drier by comparison. OK, off to Gainesville to the community playground with Maddie. We'd be there already, but her grandparents completely wore her out yesterday and she slept until 10 a.m. It is partially shaded but I still like to get there pretty early in the day to 'beat the heat' if such a thing is possible. I've been up for hours and outside so long today I already feel hot and wilted and worn out and she's as fresh as a daisy and full of energy. Aaargggh! Youth vs. old age, I guess. Dawn

Thanks, all. Mother moved to a double room today. This place is only 49 beds, and they had a male patient coming in, and asked, since the only other bed was a female double. The lady in the other bed is a cute 97 yr old very sharp lady named Jane. She's a bit loud, but at worst, it will give Mother something to complain about. Brothers John and Bobby showed up. Of course, they are leaving first thing tomorrow, so that is it. I left them alone with Mother as much as I could. They got to see her at her weakest and at her best, so they may have a good idea of how she is. They hung the "family wall" pictures. Of course that only bothered Mother because she thinks we have given up her nice apartment. I tell her that if she wants to move back to her apartment, she's got to get a lot stronger first. She is miserable to think that she has wound up in a nursing home. Maybe more motivation for getting out? My brothers were odd. Jim tells me to not let it get to me. Sigh. So John makes reservations and pays for two nights in a motel that I would not trust at high noon on a bright day, much less even spend the night. Borther says, well, I didn't know. IDIOT! You could have ASKED! I live here, I could have told him. They could have stayed in Mother's apartment at no charge (they did check out and move to the apt this afternoon). But no, I am the Wicked Witch of the West, and we don't even call to ask. Stupid Idiot. A least they came, and the look on Mother's face was wonderful. It meant all the world to her that they visited. My cousin Linda comes tomorrow. Today was a lot more of getting oriented. Paperwork. Meeting more nurses, more staff, seeing routines, etc. Poor Mother, she never wanted to be here. But we are doing our best to make it ok, and maybe motivation for her to get well. I am sooooo tired. AT the end of the day, brothers took DH and me out to dinner and we were all civil to one another. Thanks for all the support here.

finedreams: All of the religious counselors I have ever heard speak regarding marriage problems, have always suggested that abuse and infidelity are grounds for divorce. I believe that people who stay in a marriage where either occurs may hold on to this as the reason they stay. I would venture to guess that they actually stay because of fear. Whether it is a fear of being alone, or a fear of being unlovable, or a fear of supporting themselves or children on their own, or a fear of the violent person getting visitation rights and their inability to protect their children, or fearing that if they left, that they would make their spouse very angry, or all of the above, I think it boils down to fear. Perhaps they don't want to lose their home and life as they know it. And it is easier to use the vows and church as their reason for staying in such a situation, than to admit that they are afraid to be alone. When chronic infidelity occurs within a marriage, perhaps they feel responsible somehow. Or their sense of self esteem is so damaged, but again, I think it often is fear that keeps them from leaving. Or perhaps they don't leave because they really do not want another woman/man parenting their children, or involved in the lives of the children and family.

Yes vesfl, my Mary rose is nice and saturated deep pink. I believe this is because it only receives morning sun. I really like the nonstop blooming. The fragrance is actually pretty good, needmore. I just never cut any anymore, because they only last about a day or so cut. That's a real bummer, because cutting is a at least half the fun for me. I like to enjoy my blooms indoors, especially when it's too hot to be out much. My Mary Rose is VERY heavily virused, but still blooms really well. I am LOVING this cooler weather! I cannot remember it ever being like this in midAugust. I sure hope we don't get a furnace blast of heat after this, but it's likely. We are supposed to have a week of mild temps. Then September will probably bring our Santa Ana winds, heat, and fire. I dread that, but at least my water and electricity will get a break this week. Ingrid, I know what you mean. It really is always something, isn't it? Goodness, I think if everything was ever all perfect at once, I'd invite everyone I knew over for a look! I'd also make a utube video and post it here:) I don't have any raidiating heat, like you do. I know makes a big difference, plus the temp difference is substantial considering how few miles we are apart. I'm no fan of those LONG MRI's either. I've been putting it off, and it needed to be done. Yesterday I was worthless afterwards, as they had given me Valium in the IV. I've had lots of muscle spasms lately,(always worse in the summer heat) and they needed me to be still for two hours. When I came home, I was still dopey and dumb. Best not to garden like that. I'm thankful it was such a cool day, and not even the pots required water. I just watched some TV with Sebastian. Interestingly, I have found he will lay on the bed with me if I remove the comforter. Following the advice of someone here,(sorry name escapes me atm) removing the scent of Millie seems to help. He does however, continue to lose weight. I'm going to have to send him back in with my son soon. It's just so hard. In order to get the 75% discount,(which I need) he has to go to work with my son all day. Sebastian gets squeezed in for his tests or exams whenever they have time. He hates it there, and I feel terrible sending him all day long, adding to his stress. One day, he even came home without being seen at all, because they were so busy. I can't complain though, this would already have cost me thousands instead of hundreds, and I'm so grateful. The scary/confusing thing is that he has lost nearly 5lbs in 2 months. He is VERY sensitive to my health and emotions, plus Millie is bothering him. The head vet there says that amount of weight cannot be emotional. Yet, they are not finding anything. It's very troubling, and just adds to my stress, which in turn, probably adds to his. He really does stress out when I do. Sorry guys, I probably should have emailed that to Ingrid. I didn't intend to go into all that when I began. Cassandra, I'm not 100% about what I'm going to use. I know I need to do it fast, before my whole garden is affected. I don't spray or use chemicals either, but I'm going to in this barrel. I was just in no shape to have my dad stop somewhere yesterday so I could look over my options. I'll research and update it here. I know exactly what you mean about a bell going off on n your head. I have all sorts of bugs, and I complain about them, but most of the time I don't even identify them because I'm not going to do anything to them. When Jim posted pictures, I heard that same dingdong:) That's why it's never bloomed! When I looked, sure enough, the ends looked burnt and they crumbled off when I touched them. The midge can get into your whole garden and all your roses. You could have no blooms, and no new growth. Whatever we do, we need to do it fast. It's something like every 14 days the larvae hatch out of the soil and start eating and multiplying again. They can devastate an entire rose garden. Let me know what you do, too. Poor little one. Its hard to have to watch your little ones hurt and know you can't do anything about it.
Prayers that the pain ends quickly and that she heals fast.

I read this on FB and just cried. Poor little thing! How are you holding up? Just breaks my heart to know she is hurting. Can they not give her something stronger for a day or two?

I'm so sorry. Hope she heals up fast. I never broke any bones, but my sister broke her right arm three times. My daughter fell while roller blading and broke her finger. Kids heal quickly. I'll pray for Rhiannon.

dd2 had a stress fracture, and attended the freshman dance in a cast...one of the funny/cute pix i have...

They said that they wanted to wait until Thursday to cast it, to make sure that all the swelling is down. They gave her tylenol with codeine and advil to fight the pain, but it isn't helping. We have her hunkered down in the recliner with all her babies, blankies and pillows on it. We have the leg up and ice on it. She can't get up and move at all, the only time she has left the chair since we got home is to be lifted and taken to the bathroom and it is very painful, and she cries terrible every time we get her up. It is the worse thing, it just breaks my heart. My mom came and got the boys so Dan and I could get some sleep, we got 2 hours each last night and am shot. But won't let it ruin Christmas.

Sending hugs and good thoughts to her. Maybe if you ask her what color does she want for her cast will distract her--well for a minute! When I broke my arm many years ago, I kept ice packs on it and the swelling really went down and it healed very nice.

Awww Bless her heart... I will lift her up for quick healing and not much hurting while she heals... just remember... you are being refined by our Creator.. and when you do, it takes the edge off.. and makes things a little bit better...

I am surprised they did not keep her in the hospital. If she continues to be in so much pain, please call your doctor on Monday. When I worked in an ER in CA, they transferred kids with spiral fractures to a children's hospital and sent them by helicopter.

Oh my, I didn't realize they sent her home without casting her! I couldn't take that. The poor little thing. Thursday is too far away! Please call her doctor. I can't believe they allow her to be in so much pain.

If the leg is swollen, or still swelling, its not good to put on a permanent cast. If the leg swells more under a cast, it can cut off circulation; When the swelling subsides, a cast will be too loose and has to be redone. However, I think that a temporary splint could be helpful. A splint can limit movement in the fracture area. Any movement there sends a shot of pain to the patient. However, a splint must be constructed to allow for swelling and should be easily removed and reapplied.

Great news, took our 3rd ER trip last night and they finally gave her a pain med that would let her sleep. She slept clear through the night. Also found out because of our care, the ice on constantly and having it elevated, there is no swelling and it is aligned great. So will call the Ortho at 8 and see if he can get her in today to cast it. Here is hoping for a pretty pink cast. We told her last night maybe Santa will even sign it, that brought a big smile to her face.

Please say a prayer for our family this week, so far it has helped us.

It's good to hear that things are improving some.

I wondered whether some splints might help, perhaps held in position by a tensor bandage wound around a stick to hold it to the leg.

I guess that your feeling of being somewhat beleagured by problems the other day is now something of a distant memory? - And by that comment I don't mean to disparage them, just to suggest that sometimes when things appear a certain way to us, something may happen that shifts our perspective somewhat.

Good wishes to you and yours for the coming days: I'm pleased that your young ones, and you, were having a good time the other day, before the fall.

And may you have a pleasant, worthwhile Christmas.

Good wishes also for the New Year: I hope that it brings some improvements in your situation, as you work your way through the different issues.
