If I lived nearby I could send him off with some pistachios. It's good that you got him, though--an attic is no place for a squirrel (although the squirrel would probably disagree with me).

When I had a house, quite a while ago, we had an attic bathroom plumbing project open and were also nursing some feral 3 week old kitties in a closed room nearby and one got out and ran into the opening and we could hear it walk between the floors above us every night until, like you said, the girls were upset and I was too. Being THE adult is so hard. What to do? I finally put our sympathetic cat on a leash and he cried into the opening and the poor kitty came out; ran down the stairs and climbed up the curtains in the living room. With oven mitts on I got kitty down.
Your squirrel is lucky that you love animals.

I hope, you can find the opening where he got in, and can get that closed off. You sure don't want to repeat that catch.

I had a cat once that got so inquisitive he jumped up in a hole in the basement, got between the raffters and fell down between the walls. He finally got the strength to jump out of there and we blocked the hole. But it was pathetic listening to him howl while he was trapped there. And he was a pet, not a feral or anything. I wanted to break down the wall to get him. Lucky he saw some light and was able to get out himself.

Awww...all these stories are a mixture of sweet and sad. ;)

Um...you had just ONE squirrel in your attic? Oh, I do hope so.

We had squirrels (multiple) in our attic this fall and Moni gave you some good advice. Find out where they are getting in. I watched and saw they were going up through the cover that covered the wires to the AC that leads to the attic. Well those "adorable" squirrels chewed through the wires in the attic and cost us $192 to fix. So don't ask me how I feel about them!!! Bah humbug!! They put a cap over the bottom of the cover now so they can't get in.

We have been watching the squirrel and know where he was getting in. We hired someone to take care of the problem but couldn't plug up the hole because he would go in and wouldn't come out while we were on watch. So, we decided to trap him before correcting the problem. DS will have to go up there tomorrow and check the damage. It's too high up for an old man to get to but we know it's there. I am sad to report that the squirrel did not make it. In his frenzy to get free, he injured himself and died. I've been consoling myself with two things. #1 I was quite worried about how we would get the cage down with squirrel in it. I was afraid someone may get bitten through the cage. #2, I know he went out with a very good meal. He had the BEST peanut butter because I didn't have cheapo stuff on hand. We have reset the cage, but I think it was just this one critter. At least I'm hoping so.

Georgy, don't knock yourself over this. I am with you, and hope, it was only the one.
