I've donated over 2 gallons and they tell me that mine is O+.

Mine's B-...maybe I should donate more since I've never had kids or been pregnant.

My dad had B- too and he was called in frequently to give blood. I think he gave over 8 gallons over 25 years or so. The American Red Cross gave him a solid gold blood droplet lapel pin.

A-, husband O+, boys are all positives..so I got shots during and after pregancy.
Oldest son O+. middle one A+, Little one I was never told, but he's positive.

I just hit my 3 gallon mark last Thursday..0 negative blood here. I did learn something new when I went to donate.
The flu shot could cause a false postive HIV test if it hasn't been at least 2 weeks. It was right on the two week mark for me, so the lady told me that if I got a letter in the mail to call and tell them about my flu shot. I told her I wouldn't be able to call becauses DH would kill me!! LOL

I'm O-. I think this blood type can be given to anyone, not sure. I haven't donated blood for a couple of years and I know I should because 0- is one that they always need.
Because my Rh factor is negative I had to have Rhogam shots during and after each of my pregnancy's because each of my babies Rh factor were positive.

It's weird what we inherit.

O-, the universal donor. Giver to all, taker of few.

AB+ (Papa says that's why I've Always Been positive in my outlook towards life LOL ; well I could do with some more of that AB+ stuff right now!)

I'm A+. I was donating often to dump iron. Since I'm low carb, I eat a lot of meat.

I guess I'm the only one who has no idea what my blood type is. Oh well.

Since I always try to be positive, mine is easy for me to remember. :)

Yes, I'm O+. Both of my daughters are O- and had to take those big awful shots when they were pregnant. DH's mother, sister, cousin are all O-.

B positive, which is funny because I am a really pessimistic person. ha ha.

O+ here. It's been awhile since I donated. Time to do that again. We usually have the big red bus come to our workplace and we all donate. I used to think that since my type was the most common that it wasn't so important for me to donate. But it's just the opposite. Since it is the most common that is the type that is needed the most. (I'm usually pretty smart - duh!)

I see I had the number wrong and AB- is twice as rare as I thought I remembered.

That rhogam shot was the only shot I ever had that actually hurt LOL.
Had to have it though to prevent blue babies.

I am A+. I can always remember that since Teresa ends in A. DH isn't sure, his famiy has some B's in it. I'm not sure what DD is (3yrs old). I wish I knew, somehow it would make me feel better?, but yes, whenever you go into the hospital they will type your blood and not just take your word for it.

My mom is O+ and my Dad was AB-, the most common and most rare!

I've donated blood whenever I can (I started to get out of class Senior year of high school-lol) I never kept track of how many pints or gallons yet.

I asked my doctor last week to order the test with my other routine bloodwork and he gently refused. Said that in medical emergencies they never rely on the patient to tell them blood type! They have a rapid test they can conduct to be sure they are delivering the right type.

Besides, I am unable to donate blood. When I have bloodwork done, they can only get enough for testing from my inside wrist(s). Bad veins.....YUK...it hurts just thinking about those tests.

B-..pretty rare according to the chart. I had to have the rhogam shots too when I was pregnant.

Teresa & DeeMarie, I'm not trying to preach but wondering if you read Monica's thread about the Heparin overdose. Or my above response about the wrong blood transfusion. I just don't think we should depend on nurses and doctors just like they don't depend on us for accurate information. Know your blood type and everything else you can, and ask questions before allowing blood and medication to be administered.

I'm with the....AB negative is rare and only 12 percent of the population group. :-)

I'm B- and Jason is A+. I also had to have the shots during pregnancy.

Daughter 1 is A+.
Daughter 2 is AB+.
Daughter 3 is O+.

It's funny how they are all different. I was relieved that none of them will need to have the shot when they have their own babies.

I'm O neg. DH was AB Pos and rarer at that. I was watched very closely during 3rd PG (40+ years ago). Don't remember any rhogam shots.....

Both DSs are positive. I asked my dr. about if I have to have a transfusion. She said they check "for everything" before administering. I still have it listed on my paramedic list on the fridge and in my wallet, just in case.

Dh and I are both o+, Not sure what out dtrs blood types are. I had surgery in May, the anesthesiologist insisted on getting my blood type checked while I was in the OR. I just layed there in the OR waiting an extra 30 minutes when I could have told him my blood type. It hasn't changed in 55 years, don't think it will anytime soon.

I am A+ and so is my daughter. My husband is O+. My son is A-.

I gave blood for a number of years, but a few years ago they found something in it that they didn't like, so won't take from me, any more.

When I was in University of Saskatchewan and St. Andrew's College (seminary), back about 1950, we used to sell blood on occasion - they paid $15.00 per contribution, which was big money in those days, especially to hard-up college kids.

It was a few years later that they instituted the all-voluntary program.

AB positive, CMV negative.

That combination of factors makes my blood and platelets incredibly valuable and puts me in under one half percent of the general population.

I used to give blood every so often but the last time I tried, I was told if you lived in Europe during a certain time period (I think it was the 1980s-1990's), you couldn't give anymore. They used to feed cow brain/spinal cord tissue back to the cattle so there's a possiblity of me having mad cow disease and passing it on.

I've thought about calling United Blood service and asking if they're still refusing people who fall in that category.

One time I had a miscarriage and doctor sent me to the hospital. The next morning I was ready to leave and they said they would discharge me but first I had to take a shot to protect future pregnancies, because I was A-. I said, "No, I am A+. I am not taking the shot." A little argument ensued, as I was getting ready to leave. They called my doctor and he said to re-test me. The guy from the lab came, and said, "I don't know why they want a re-test, because you are A+. They wrote it on your chart wrong." I said a few choice words to them and left. Maybe the shot wouldn't have hurt me...that's not so much the point. It wouldn't have done me any good...and what if I had needed a blood transfusion from these clowns? Hospitals are dangerous places and any time someone goes, you need to be on your toes all the time.

I am 0+, ex was I think, a B something. Have 4 kids, youngest is the only boy. At least 2 of the 3 girls are O+. When DS was born, he had a serious bilirubin problem that lasted for months. Nearly had to be flown to a NICU for transfusions. Had a helicopter on standby. Later, when having a different doctor and his wife over for coffee, doc said that it most likely was caused by an ABO incompatibility, which is extremely rare but can happen. Wonder if I was allergic to ex?!?? hehehe

I think that it's the type that flows fairly well in summer.

Not sure about the winter, though ...

... might need some anti-freeze.

I've never known my bloodtype, even though everytime I get a blood test I request to have it typed and they always turn me down, telling me it's not covered by insurance. I have never donated blood because I have never weighed enough.

Now that I'm pregnant, I just had my 16 week bloodwork done the other day. I'm sure they'll type me now!! :)

O- here...every 8 weeks I'm there, been donating over 30 years. At work they used to give us 4 hours to donate and recouperate, after a new union negotiation they "discovered" they were doing it wrong - for close to 30 years, yeah, right.

Yes, I do. When I was born, they were just learning, but still didn't know too much about the Rh factor, only that if your baby was positive, and you were negative, it could be a problem. My mom is negative and my dad is positive, so they told my father that there was a 50-50 chance that either my mom or I would die. When he heard me cry, he thought my mom was dead. He started crying, wondering how he was going to take care of 4 kids alone, when the doctor came out and said that mother and daughter were fine. Strange thing is, only my sister and I, who take most after our father, are negative. The ones who took after my mother's side are both positive like my dad.
