Yeah... I really dislike the 4" ones.
I can get 4.5" at Giant Eagle... I think I'll stock up on it.

I now buy Big Lots brand. Not as good as Scott, but I'm not picky.

I get Scott too, for me, DH wants something softer, like
Charmin or Northern. Now Scott has a softer version, I guess
he will be okay with that. As long as it's not sandpaper
my butt really doesn't care....

Not only are the rolls narrower, but the 'squares' are shorter so that they are now rectangles.

I've found a great solution though--you can go to your local janitor supply store and get the full-sized rolls. Buying by the case, the rolls are a fraction of the price that you pay in the supermarket and with 96 rolls in a carton you have the added advantage of not running out too frequently.

When we were using the incredibly shrinking Scott's, we were going through 3-4 rolls a week. Now that we've switched to the to the commercial stuff (which quality-wise is right up there with Scott's), we get about 8 days out of 2 rolls, so we're saving $$$ coming and going.

I bought Scott for the first time yesterday cause I had a dumb coupon. When I put it away, I couldn't believe how much smaller the rolls are compared to Cottenelle. Some savings...NOT! Live and learn.

We recently found an old roll in the back of the pantry. Not only are the rolls shorter, but the quality of the paper is not as soft. I had read that softer paper is made from virgin paper/trees, not recycled. I am guessing that shorter fibers, resulting in rougher paper, is less expensive.

Marketing can be sneaky- "bigger rolls" "more rolls per package" does not always mean that they are giving you equal or improved product.

Just look at the roll holder in your bathroom! So much space on the ends of mine. I just checked, the 12 pack rolls of Scott I bought yesterday are 4.1 inches.

Unfortunately, Scott is great for septic systems. My septic guy suggested it many years ago and we haven't had any problems with the septic which can cost big $.
So, I'll stick to my Scott, cause it will save me $ on that.
I did email Scott and they appologized, said because of costs and they are sending me some coupons in the mail.
That's nice of them, why don't you all send them a note!

Compare square footage when you buy.

The rolls are shorter in width, the perforations are closer together, and the cardboard rolls have larger diameters.

I've learned to like Homelife Soft Choice better than Northern. It's soft enough, and it is NOT too absorbant. (Hands stay dry.)

It made me wonder how much it costs for them to recalibrate their machines each time they change the product. Same for other items. BUT, by taking off a half inch from each roll, with every 8 rolls of tp, there is an extra one produced....

I've about given up on any TP except Charmin ULTRA. They have the ultra soft and ultra strong. It's good and we buy the 12 double roll package.

I should have said, the rolls have been getting smaller for quite awhile now. Trying to figure out the best toilet paper for the best deal makes my head hurt. LOL

Other tissues are much smaller now, too, such as Kleenex, etc.

All products are shrinking in size, why don't they just raise the price and quit messing with the product. They must think we are really stupid not to notice the change.

I agree with comparing the square footage. We've used Kirkland for a number of years. My SIL questioned the value, since it's fairly pricey. We compared the sf of Kirkland and hers and it was remarkably more footage.

Let's just go on strike, folks: stop using, until they shape up!

We just got home from the grocery store, all the toilet paper, including Scott's are 4.1 inches, the only 4.5" was a store brand.

On my budget we can't afford two rolls a month so we have begun using both sides...

I know this doesnt have anything to do with the shrinkage of it. The last time I bought some I thought I wonder how soft the Great Value brand would be. OK I thought I will be the one dumb enough to try it. It really is pretty soft. Thats what I will buy from now on. I think it is a little cheaper.

I don't have a calculator in front of me and perhaps my math skills are deficient but 167-260 always seemed to be smaller to me than 1000.
