Anyone use the PediPaws thing on their dogs?

I have one that has weird toenails(Miss Emmie) they grow FAST and curve quick.It bothers her to have them clipped so I tried my regular dremmel tool with the hose attachment thing.Works great! Grinds them right down with no yelping and I can get them shorter than with clipping them.Larry bought me a PediPaws now...haven't used it yet but I'm thinking the regular dremmel will be better....the PediPaws is battery run.Anyway ...does anyone have one and do you like it?

I have one and no I don't like it. It takes forever and my dogs hate having the toenails trimmed. I used it once and that was the end of that. I laugh when I see the commercial. I told my DH those dogs must be drugged. My dogs would never just hand me their paw to have their toenails clipped. lol

Miss Emmie is actually better having them filed than clipping.Now ...the boys...they think the dremmel is going to eat them.So they get clipped.I thought the PediPaws would be slow,the dremmel is pretty fast,I have the rough sandpaper thing on it.I may just take the Pedipaws back.I don't know why he thought it would be better.I haven't tried the dremmel on the cats yet...gotta get my nerve up first! LOL!

I have a story, but it isn't funny. We have a little yorkie-poo. She was less than a year old when she got sick. She had a few stomach issues and they did a poop culture (sorry!), and found some type bacteria. Treated that but within a couple of weeks, she started vomiting one evening. She had never done this and after a couple of times I called our vet. Because of her small size (she's only 9 lbs. now fully grown) they had us bring her in so she wouldn't get dehydrated. They examined her, pumped her full of fluids and suggested we watch her closely overnight. The fluids and some meds helped with the vomiting but by early morning she was vomiting again. We got up, dressed and ready to get her to the vet their opening time. They did an x-ray and showed us that something was showing in her digestive track. Something she had ingested. I remembered that she had torn one of her little toys and although I never saw any stuffing out of the toy, I knew there was stuffing and we just assumed she had eaten that. They had to do emergency exploratory surgery. I bawled my eyes out. The next day when we were allowed to *visit*, the vet showed me the PLASTIC MEAT WRAPPER that she had eaten. It was to a pretty critical point, it had started through her intestines. The vet was wonderful, even took our little baby home with her overnight to keep a close eye on her and the pup came through the surgery with flying colors. And a nice little *zipper* down her belly. Hubby and I both felt awful. We didn't know she had gotten the wrapper. We figured that she had quickly grabbed it out of the garbage (which was behind a closed door, but if she saw us put something in there she'd jump up to investigate) and gotten away with it without us seeing. The stick on label on the plastic wrapping was what we were seeing on the x-ray. Alot of tears and $$$ over a meat wrapper! She's not interested in the garbage anymore (she was just a puppy then) thankfully, but we are even more cautious when throwing something away! I never throw away a meat wrapper now without putting it in another bag and tying it up first. Our pup too watches tv. It's hilarious. There was an M&M commercial that she didn't like. Now she doesn't like the Weight Watchers commercial where they have the little orange monster (hungry). She knows by the very first sound of that commercial that it's THE ONE and immediately starts barking. She barks at most dogs she sees on tv, other than cesear. Puc13, I started a thread last year some time entitled "Pet Friendly Stores" if you do a search I'm sure it will come up but unforutunately it is riddled with posts from people that wanted to debate the ethics of shopping with dogs so you will have to sift through many of those posts to find the chain stores that people have found allow dogs. There is also a great site called dogfriendly.com but it is by no means an all inclusive list. The bottom line is some hardware stores will let the dogs in but many do not now citing their candy racks. Hersys and M&M mars want to rot our childrens teeth and cause them to get nice a plump and for some reason they think it is unsanitary to have dogs near a candy rack. I can't figure that one out. The places that are most reliable and pretty much have company policies permitting dogs are the department stores Bloomingdales and Nordstrom. Note, not other federated stores, just bloomingdales. As you mentioned unless you are running in for a few quick items then it's a pain. It's hard to try on clothes or buy a bunch of lumber with two dogs on a leash. I found bloomingdales a fantastic place to go with my puppy when he was a puppy since the people there were very friendly and wanted to pet him and hold him. Dozens upon dozens of positive experience has let my dogs to believe that every human is friendly, every human wants to play and give hugs and comes bearing treats.

My beloved mutt Hippo has been a comedian (and trouble) from day one... She is food crazy and has had some harrowing experiences because of her appetite. Once she ate an entire box of dry cookie dough. Her stomach bloated up, she had diarrhea, she vomited and was miserable for about 8 hours. Once in the middle of the night she threw up... a plastic bag! I have no idea what was in the bag, or how/when she ate it, thank god she threw it up. When I had my first child she was my night companion. Anytime the baby would cry, she would run into my DD's room and wait patiently for me to come in, like "Mom, the baby is crying!" and she would stay up with me through the night feedings. She also took to licking the top of my DD's bald baby head. My relatives all thought it was gross, I thought it was adorable. When I leave the house she goes on my bed, rearranges the pillows and takes a nap. The second I come home, she jumps down and acts like she was never up there... At age 10, she loves going with my DD up into her tree house (there are little stairs) and then she will slide down the slide, just like a kid. Hippo and DD are best friends and she was the greatest "practice kid" ever.

I have heard that problem with black dogs being less likely to get adopted, but not until after this dog stole our hearts at our local SPCA. He was 2y/o when his owners had to give him up. He's a very large 100lb black lab who regularly gets compliments from passersby. Here he is after a recent trip to the beach where he loves to play fetch. This picture captures his personality. He is aptly named Maverick, the name bestowed on him by his previous owner. Our family of six could not agree on a new name so we kept his old one and glad we did as it perfectly suits him!

We got the Peticure and it works great. Tried the dremel but kept getting hair caught on it. Doesn't happen with the Peticure. The Pedipaws is less expensive but looks about the same. I didn't see the Pedipaws until after I got the Peticure. My dogs weren't crazy about it but weren't as bad as when we clip the nails. I did my friend's Golden and he didn't mind at all.

I don't know about those pet manicure machines. But I am able to cut my two cats' nails with a human toenail cutter. You hold the paw in your hand and press gently just a little below the nail. It sticks out and you can easily snip it blunt with a toenail cutter/clipper.

I wish I had not bought mine. While it does work, it is a bit slow going. None of the dogs seem to mind it much. It is much better than clipping, but I wish I had thought about my dremel! Would have saved the money!

I don't have one, however the consensus on my Scottie Dog list is to save your money, I think 2 people said they were ok, and about 10 didn't like it.

I do my labs nails this way and it is way better.

For those of you who use the dremel and have dogs with long hair on the paws, take old panty hose, stick the nails through the panty hose so the hair stays inside and grind away. I used to do that when I groomed dogs for a living.

I'm lucky..all my dogs are shorthaired..And there's a reason for that,I'm LAZY! LOL! I don't like to have to groom a lomg haired dog.Had a Yorkie once...sweet dog but never again!
I do like the dremmel better,I went to that doberman site.I have to get "the boys" used to it now.The girls are fine with it.

My dog Sheba would freak out if I went even close to her with anything that buzzes,but is a good girl getting them clipped.
I'm still not sure how her groomer gets a hairdryer near her,but when I pick her up she's fluffed and dry(American Eskimo)Enough said...LOL

If you look closely, those dogs are so calm because the darn thing isn't even ON. The drum inside isn't turning during the commercial.

I have a Blue & Gold Macaw, DH uses a dremel on her but its still not ideal, any suggestions? Her nails are killers!!!

I just saw this post and wanted to add my two cents.

I have a Pedipaw's and find that it works fine. I am glad I have it and took the time to learn to use it. If it takes too long, like earlier posters have said, you might need to change the sanding piece. It should not take long at all once you and the pet are used to doing this.

First you and your pet have to get used to the noise, then the vibration. The sites tell you to do this slowly, over a few days or such. Then you can start really shortening the nails.

I got my dog used to the machine itself in a few days. Then I got his nails much shorter, by carefully following the instructions from the manufacturer, it was only then that I found DoberDawn's site. Her instructions answered a ton of questions and I am much better at this now.

Most importantly, my dogs nails look great, but more decisive to me is that he is much more comfortable (I really had no idea his nails had gotten so long, from much fewer winter walks, compared to his 2 - 4 daily walks in good weather). So I am embarrassed to state his nails were really long, and a few curved under when we started.

Try it, practice it. You'll probably be quite good at it in short order, but not overnight.
