In case you haven't bought any lately.....patterns have gotten very high in price.

I swear I've looked all over the www and this is the only one I've seen. I guess it's not a bad price when you can't even find them anywhere! LOL! Maybe you should grab it before it's gone....

I thought I had one, but guess I gave it away. The Restore Thrift store in Minot might have a selection. If I get in to Minot, will check for you. I know you do quilting. but do you do any applique? I found a bunch of patterns from my mom, that make individual blocks. I can copy a few and mail them to you, if you are interested.

Chubby Rat It's amazing you found the pattern. I had searched eBay for "Vintage Simplicity Apron 8372" and "Vintage 8372" before begining this post, and nothing came up. What were your seach criteria?

Kathi G in MI Yes, $25 is a very steep for a pattern, at least in my world. While a lot of the new patterns are nearly as expensive, I purchase them only when JoAnn's (my only source here) has their 99-cent specials and only if I think I have a chance of getting them sewn. LOL

About every two weeks a different pattern brand will go on the 99-cent sale. I check them out and try to get the ones I think I may use then.

Still, I put this one in my "watching" list on eBay, just in case a reasonable one doesn't show up. I really want this pattern.

Joann FL They have gone through the roof, haven't they? That's why I haunt the thrift shops, yard sales, and try to catch the 99-cent sales at JoAnn's. Still, this one is out of print; (first published in 1998) so it may be hard to find.

Janie GA That is one of the patterns on my Etsy "wish list." I love the gathered, ruffled pockets.

Flamingo It must be because of the common ground of our Arkansas heritage; I love that pattern, too. Thankfully, it's already tucked away in my "Aprons Project" box.

Yes; if you get into town and it's not a bother, check out the Resale shop and see if they have the pattern. But, please, don't make a special trip or go out of your way at all. I really want the pattern, but I will live if I don't find it.

Hold off on copying the patterns right now. I have so many projects in the fire. Maybe we can copy them when I come to the quilt show!

Again, thank you for helping me look. What's really sad is that a couple months ago there were two of these patterns for sale on Etsy. One was $8 or so; I thought I could wait until the price went down. :(

It seems it would be simple to make from a sleeveless dress. Just open up the back seam, use seam binding to finish the opening, add some ribbon for ties and add a couple of pockets to the front.

I used to sew, years ago, and have used sleeveless dresses to make aprons for my Mother-in-law. Go to a thrift store and buy a $2 sleevless dress and see what you can do. Whatever you decide to do, let us know how it turns out.

1998 is not that old of a pattern. I was able to find one from 1972 on Ebay a few years ago and it was only 5 or 6 dollars! And it was the only one I was able to find.
I too buy my patterns from Joann's when on sale and think $25 is a lot of money............but, if it is something I "have to have", I would buy it.

I wore an apron to help serve a "light lunch" after a funeral at church last week. As I walked out of the kitchen, I heard a fellow worker comment about my apron and not seeing anyone wear aprons nowadays. I thought that was rude. I later mentioned to her that a couple of years ago I saw several "church basement ladies" wearing aprons and I think they are fun to wear.

Caroline, I have that pattern - size A, never used. I'd be glad to send it to you. I buy too many patterns when they are on sale, and then never get around to making them.

Linda in Iowa That was extremely rude of the 'fellow worker.' I'll bet she was more concerned with gossip than the work she was supposedly doing.

First, you were wise to wear something to protect your clothing as you concentrated on doing a charitable service for people in distress.

Second, those people serious about preparing, cooking, and serving food in a professional manner (whether paid or voluntary) wear aprons. They can then concentrate more about producing a good product rather than worring about ruining, or flaunting, their clothing.

and Third, aprons are fashionable right now! You had that heifer beat in every way possible.

Kathy G in MD I agree; the pattern is not old as in pre-WWII, or difficult. I'll bet it isn't even scarce, but it does seem to be very popular, thus the price.

I've bought several lovely patterns from the 50s-80s for $2-$3, some with free shipping even, from both eBay and Etsy. This one is proving to be more of a challenge.

Kay Jones That is an idea I may try. I'm going one-step easier. Since I may have better luck finding a child's dress in 100% cotton, I'll start small and see if I can find a dress that will covert to an apron for one of my nieces. That should be good practice.

Wow! I'd love to have it, obviously, but I insist on paying, either in cash, or I can make an apron for you from the pattern. It will probably be in January, though. I'm finishing a couple craft/quilting gift projects that will take me through Christmas.

Linda, maybe there was something in her tone but a comment about people not wearing aprons much any more doesn't seem like rudeness to me, just that SHE doesn't see them being worn. She obviously hasn't been to Flickr or Craftster.org and seen just how incredibly popular pinnies are these days! And maybe she doesn't cook much and doesn't have a need for one.
