Be careful buying from QVC or the other TV selling channels, their stuff tends to be rather overpriced.

It's great if you find it convenient to watch their shows for shopping ideas. Do that, then do your buying from places like Amazon or even Walmart's website. You'll often find better selection and most certainly better prices.

I bought a windshield cover a few years ago. Use it when snow is predicted.
I know I didn't pay as much as QVC quotes. I think I bought it at Walmart. I just checked their website, and they advertise one simple cover for $11.00.

Most auto accessories shops carry them - for much less than qvc.

I don't live in a climate that calls for one of these but one of my daughters does and this might be a good gift for her. But it seems to me this might be an item easily stolen?

Putting the car inside the garage does the trick for me!

And I agree that the QVC price is high on those....

I see people using cardboard for the same reason.

I was trying to think of some small gift for my grandson-in-law besides giving him and his wife a larger gift and ran across this. You canâÂÂt use cheap paper towel as it falls apart too easily. The recipe had good reviews. Some used 2 tsp. of glycerin. You would use it prior to leaving your outside parked car for the day:

Easy homemade Winter Windshield Wipes.

20 to 24 Squares of white Bounty-brand paper towels
1 cup Witch Hazel*
1 teaspoon Glycerin*

Separate & Fold each square like a washcloth and place them in
a sealable plastic container such as rubbermaid or gladware. Combine Witch Hazel and Glycerin, mix well and pour over towelettes. Let stand for a few minutes to absorb all of the liquid. Store under the seat of your car, use to clean your windshields or your hands whenever you need, won't dry out your hands and won't freeze!

I cover the windshield of my vehicle(s) with a blue plastic tarp. Got it at WalMart for about $5. Secure to the vehicle with stretch cords. And sometimes weight down the corners with a rock or other heavy object. Tis a bit of work but IMO it sure beats scraping ice! I do.not.like that job!!

Guys at work would look at me like I was crazy. But guess who was still scraping ice 10 min after we got off work & who was driving off after folding the tarp????? Can get interesting when the wind is blowing like crazy, but I still think it beats scraping ice! I do NOT use de-icer. That stuff is dangerous.....freezes a film on the windshield. Have had 2 near missed (wrecks) because of it. The tarp will cover at some of the door window, too, depending on the size of your vehicle.

jayokie, why not just close the tarp in your door? Is it long enough to hang down and close inside? If you got it taut enough, it wouldn't blow away. And no rocks needed. Just a suggestion! I can't imagine a tarp would be thick enough to impede door operation or affect the frame.

I liked the idea of the cardboard (being ratherfrugal), but one would need something to tie it down to avoid having the wind relocate it. I could see using a couple of bungee cords tied together with light rope, ad one would need two such. I think that get them all put in place would be something of a job.

I like the idea of a tarp better ... and the idea of closing the doors on the ends even better.

I've used a sheet of heavy plastic sometimes, but it's rather awkward ... and hard to tie down.

P.S. But ... Dad used to say that he didn't mind work (and he was familiar with a lot of it) but that if he could let his brain figure a way to get the job done adequately instead of his hands ... that suited him just fine.

Joyful, having the wipers upright would help hold it in place.
Also, I'm thinking of the boxboard type material; like an opened/flattened beer case or two.

No cover for me. Fold up some nice clean thing and stuff it in a storage bag? HA. It's full of snow and frozen ice, now melting inside your car. For up to heavy frost (not ice), I just add the de-icer washer fluid and push the button.
