Joann, I don't have one of those, but when I dropped my land line, I had the same thoughts.

At home, I have a shelf my phone lives on. At work, it stays in my back pack. While riding my bike, it is in a small pack that hangs on my bike. When in the back yard, it is in a basket, unless I wear something with a pocket.

Of course, it is in my purse when I take it along. While driving it is on the shelf between the front seats.

When I go places that I don't want to take a purse but do want to take my phone, a credit card, comb and lipstick, I use a very small, lightweight zippered 'sting purse'. It's slightly larger than my phone, is made out of a soft black knit fabric and has a long black rope like strap that looks like the fabric. I can wear the strap over one shoulder or across my body and it's barely noticeable. It comes in especially handy on cruises when I want to carry our room key and nothing else.

I knit myself a tube pouch/sock that exactly fits my phone then attached a knit i-cord "chain" long enough to fit over my head and I wear it like a necklace when I don't have pockets on me :) That way I can tuck it into a shirt if I am walking and don't want it to bang into me. It's actually pretty handy if I don't want to carry my purse, I can slide a bank card and my license in with my phone and ta-da-da-da I'm set! :)

Have you looked at cases for digital cameras? Some of them seem better sized for the larger phones and have straps for over your shoulder, etc. Also, you don't *need* a belt to use a belt clip - you can attach the clip to the outside of a pocket, to a belt loop, etc.

I agree that it's nice to not be tied to your phone as others have mentioned. Except I think there are times in life when that connectedness is important - availability for a sick family member or a house building project (which is what I'm dealing with now).

If you have a Steinmart near you they have very nice clip shut cases with a long strap for shoulder or cross body, you can add a few credit cards or license inside. They have a clear plastic panel on one side so you can actually see the phone face through it.
I got one for when I go out on trips with the garden club and don't want to haul a purse. It's perfect and I have a large phone, so it does take the large phone. They come in a lot of colors and materials.

I bought a Clingo Necklit at Amazon for ten bucks, and I wear it around my neck. It is basically a strong silk ribbon necklace with a 3.5 inch plastic sticky part that you attach your phone to quite easily and...just as easily...peels off without any residue or stickiness to the phone. It is very strong and I don't worry about my iPhone coming off of it. I keep the thing in a baggie when not in use so the sticky side doesn't pick up lint or debris.
