My neighbor has a new pet (pic)

My neighbor got a pot bellied pig. LOL!

We live in the city and it's so odd to look out and see this pig in his yard.

He says it's housebroken...which is a good thing.

Has anyone ever had one? I don't think I'd like to. With two dogs, it's already hard keeping our yard picked up.

Not to be a total curmudgeon, BUT... 1) It's not your fence. It belongs to your neighbor 100% because he paid for it. That means you can't paint it, grow anything on it, or attach anything to it. 2) You don't have 6 more inches. That belongs to him, too! It's where the posts for his fence are. The fence is built entirely on his property! This isn't like buying a new house and the fence is on the property line: he paid for it and put it on HIS property. The property line appears to be where the wall is. The property line didn't move! (And no, he didn't "abandon" the 6" on her side, he's using it for the fence foundation.)

Yes this is an old thread, but extremely relevant; especially in light of Covid and all the insanity it is breeding. I have two nasty neighbors, so I got the luck of the draw. One on each side. The neighbor to the left was syrupy sweet for a few months, but that turned. The neighbor to the right is anal as all get out but feels as if he is entitled to encroach on our property, move things, dig our fence up because he felt it wasn’t level, take deck tiles he agreed to buy from me, but never made good on, mow over my outdoor area rug, and “accidentally“ destroy various things. The man isn’t crazy, just anal and entitled at 50 plus years old. Worse than a toddler. Never apologies or offers to replace what was damaged. I have felt like retaliating in several occasions, but I always pull myself together. My husband is now seeing things more and more. You are not crazy. Those that are calling you crazy must be “that crazy neighbor” to someone else or just plain evil and nasty. There are so many people in the world like this. A person entitled and miserable is extremely difficult to live by. I pray your situation has improved. We are hoping to move in a year or so. I will be sure to pay extra careful attention to the neighborhood and make certain there is ample distance between property lines. I want peace!

I’m quilty of not looking at those stipules. They are pretty messed up. It seems the best thing to do is to bag it and get rid of it. However it sure would be awesome if there was a place where it could be isolated to see what happens. Two years ago my South Africa had new canes that were far worse than those showing above. When it was 8 inches high it already had 8 or more laterals starting to grow and enlarging buds on those. The growth was soft with wretched thorns and that ugly red color..I broke off the growth and the plant has been fine ever since. In fact it’s still one of my best roses. As a matter of fact Plum Perfect did the same thing when she was new. That one I nearly dug up. Well she is still here two years later healthy and pretty as a picture and full of flowers. I posted photos of the growths on both roses but did not save them. Ann if you read this at sometime is there any possibility that growth hormones could be responsible. Ben I have to say that I’m happy for you. Weighing in on these posts can honestly be depressing sometimes. Take it from ones who had been there it feels good when Ann backs you up. I still think that the rose is okay.

That is really cute. If I were younger and had the proper place for one, I wouldn't mind having one. They say pigs are smarter than dogs. Cover your ears Izzi!

They ARE big. I've seen the small ones which are cute, but a full-sized one? In the city? Oh, I don't know...

They're really cute, and really smart - they also get quite a bit bigger than many people understand. Are you zoned for them there? They aren't legal inside city limits here and this is a modest sized community, not big city....hopefully they've checked into all that before making it part of the family, or will before they get attached.....

He's adorable, and they are more intelligent than dogs. That's one reason I don't eat them...or any other animal.

Our daughter and son-in-law bought a house and it came along with 2 pot belly pigs. They donated them to a childrens ranch..

It's darling! We have friends in another state who once had a pet pig, and said she was as smart as a dog.

Morz8, I don't know if they're legal in the city here or not.

I don't expect anyone to complain, though. He lives on the corner and has a nice size yard. I never hear it, and really I never notice it unless I look over that way.

It's still a novelty to me and I get a kick out of seeing it. lol

My next door neighbors had one. Daisy Mae was only about 8 inches long when they got her but she grew and grew until she was as big or bigger than a St. Bernard dog (and much fatter)! She was very smart and I adored her. I believe she was about fifteen years old when she finally died. We still miss her.

It is cute, and I hear they're very lovable. But I have no desire to ever have a pig as a house pet. Guess I raised enough of them on the farm that I just don't think of them as house pets. Now, a miniature horse, that might be another matter....

I'm with Cynic on this one. After seeing a few hog farms in the midwest, I'll never be able to think of a pig/hog as "cute."

As my husband says, "different people like different things..."

Aw, it's cute. I'd rather have that next door than barking dogs.

I saw one in someone's yard when I was in San Diego. The house was absolutely gorgeous, on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The owner was outside watering the garden and the pig was following her around. It was so funny. That pig was huge!!

If I had the room, I'd get one.

Did your neighbor see the pig's parents? (Size issue.)

When these were first 'the rage' a lot of these 'pets' were dumped into animal shelters when they got too big to handle. (Think of Easter pets once Easter's over.)

Well, it's cute, I suppose. But it is a p-i-g, and p-i-g to me spells b-a-c-o-n and h-a-m and h-a-m-h-o-c-k-s and l-a-r-d and r-i-b-s and c-h-o-p-s and s-c-r-a-p-p-l-e!

I'd be very good to it; but not make it a "pet." I'd keep it clean and dry and warm and very well fed. And then...

Cynic, I have a stack of appletree wood.
