I joined the ranks of "Flight Attendant"...I've been pushing peanuts and slinging hash, spilling drinks, playing nurse, giving advice...putting out fights and in generally a whole lot of everything for 34 years...(well after a short 5 week training course on how to evacuate a burning plane in 90 seconds or less and yes it can be done)...

It has been the most wonderful thing I've ever done and I plan to keep it up a few more years...the customers are restless these days and I'm more apt to fire back atcha if you fire first but all in all...it's still a great job and I do love my peeps!!

Isn't it wonderful to enjoy your job? I love mine, also. I rarely dread going in to the office.

Thanks for your years of service, btw. Travel would be less comfortable without Flight Attendants"!

Unfortunately, I doubt many will see your post in this obscure photo sub-forum. Also, I am a little uncertain about some wording in your post, but I think I understand the general idea. Trees can often cover over their wounds if they are growing vigorously and are in good health. You mentioned that your tree has been "pruned to be very sparse". That sounds like you are making it much harder for the tree to successfully recover. Starving the tree of food by limiting it's foliage and forcing it to overcome pruning wounds would certainly present obstacles to the tree's recovery. It is unlikely that removing a section of trunk would be the way to go. A bridge graft might help, but is probably not worth the trouble. Again, what you need to do is to increase the tree's vigor, and the best way to do that might be to leave it alone for a while! And, yes, the plaster cast is a crazy (bad) idea.

Yeh, you have issues that need to be dealt with. For starters, it appears that the addition is just sitting on the top of a 4x4? post and isn't tied to the post in any way. The post is splitting; the the add-on is trying to wiggle itself off of the post or the post is trying to wiggle out from under the load. Probably both. I see a remedial effort to tie the rim joist to the post with a wimpy little strap of sheet metal that is just nailed on. Forces of nature are giddy w/ that attempt. The corner brace in the 2nd & third photos would not do much in the best case scenario. Looks like it is nailed to only one one joist so it's doing exactly nothing. Just a homeowner here. Not a structural engineer but I see enough to know that you have Concerns and need to get some pros on site to evaluate sooner rather than later.

Congratulations, Liz! Things sure have changed, haven't they? There used to be so many rules and so few male stewards. Now you're all flight attendants with less food service responsibilities, but a lot more safety responsibilities. I admire your ability to put up with the public when you'd sometimes want to show them to the door--at 30,000 feet! I bet you could write a best seller with the stories you remember over the years.

Hope you enjoy 34 more!

P.S. My sister worked for the same airlines 30 years and loved every minute of it. She was in reservations in Tampa (and Indianapolis before that).

I admire you for being with it for so long. Your job is vitally important--and I don't mean those drinks, either! LOL! Congratulations. You can be very proud of yourself.

It sure is great to love your job!

Years ago I said that I'd like to pursue mine, whether I was paid or not.

When family broke up, 40 years ago, liberal Prot. church figured that clergy didn't DO that, so it sure didn't help the career.

I was rather pi$$ed off at a number of things related to that and climbed into my shell for a few years ...

... but figured that I might as well come out of it.

Institutions of whatever kind find it rather hard to say, "I'm sorry" ... it seems to me.

So ... I go about ... doing my thing.

Why quit ... just because you're (supposedly) retired??

Thanks y'all!! Patti...I've had so many on...memorable ones (Red Skelton, Paul Newman, Bill Cosby and not so nice (Priscilla Presley, Henry Mancini)..and hundreds in between...most of them just want to be left alone but some are thrilled you know who they are...you kinda have to feel them out...Nancy Grace looked like a bag lady and we laughed that this wouldn't be a photo op...Art Linkletter was my first and he was so very kind...I hopped off the plane that night and called my Mom...

Glenda...probably millions...and millions...not so much now days...I've only been working 7 or 8 days a month...just enough to keep me full time while I finish the job on this house...I've got bone spurs in my right thumb and they really hurt after a 12 hour day...

Yes there are a few I've wanted to open the door and throw out but for the most part I follow the golden rule and it keeps me going!!
