No, I haven't used any bleach, bet it was the clorox wipes! But I have been using them for over 6 months and my hands have never done this....

My doctor says lotions aren't good...use creams. You might want to get some Udder Cream....used on the udder of cows. If you have some Vaseline, put it on at night and put on a pair of white gloves or even a sock over your hands if you don't have gloves.

Iwould guess cooler, dryer weather could be the cause. Several years ago I had that happen, asked a pharmacist for a suggestion. He told me to try AQUAPHOR. It is good and I've told several friends about it.

The dermo also told me not to use lotions. I have to use a cortisone cream when my hands are overly dry and splitting, but I try to use vaseline more often. Unfortunately I have to sit still for a good 30 minutes when I lather up with it, so it can soak in.

Gabriel, I'm another big fan of Aquaphor. I was given it when my lips got so dry and swollen from radiation. (I kiddingly told them when I went for my treatment that I was trying to look like Angelina Jolie.) That stuff is like a miracle. I still have a lot of sample tubes that I'm hoarding. It works wonders on my dry elbows, too.

That happens to me if I am washing my hands a lot more than usual, usually if I am making a lot of food or have a big baking order where I am constantly rinsing and washing my hands. A day or two of intense lotion generally solves the issue.

I swear by pure coconut oil....it has wonderful healing properties. It's weird stuff, very solid at room temperature and needs to be melted in your hand before you can rub it...where ever.

My finger tips peel a couple of times a year. No known reason...it's not weather related.

I will use shea butter tonight before I go to bed on my hands..and I may sleep with some socks on my hands..Thank you all for helping and offering suggestions.

My fingers peel and crack, esp. in the winter - the pharmacist recommended something called Zim's Crack cream last winter and it worked wonders. I got had her get me some more of it this year, so I'm prepared. Hope you find something that works for you

Get some Hands stuff from O'Keefe....it is the best stuff I have ever used. I think it is called Working Hands.

I get it at our local Ace's Hardware store.

I second Working Hands. It's great for chapped hands, cracking or peeling hands. I get peeling from polishing silver. I don't do as good a job if I use gloves. I love Working Hands as it isn't greasy and rubs right in. It's also great for dry elbows. It also lasts a long time.

I'll bet that all of these products are good for feet, too.

I've used Working Hands; that helped.
Then I left it in the office before a long weekend, so I picked up some Corn Huskers Lotion, and that has helped, too (not very expensive, and you can find it in the grocery store).

I started going through the peeling fingers and palms a few years ago about when winter starts setting in. Hydrate! I drink less water when it gets cold and more hot coffee and tea. I drink more water now and "cream up" my hands morning and night. I have a friend who slathers cream on and sleeps in white cotton gloves. Mine didn't get that bad. I started carrying a water bottle around with me and, so far, I haven't had any peeling this year.

Well my Prince Charming figured out why just the ends of my fingers were peeling!! Wednesday before last Molly helped me take off my shellac nail polish. This is done by using pure acetone, a cotton ball and tin foil wrapping the cotton ball soaked in acetone around your fingers and toes. There I was with my cheetah booties on my feet & under the covers & my hands in thick socks under the heating pad. You get me still and warm out I go...I slept for about 30 minutes when you should remove the wraps after 20... DH reminded me of this on the way to my DB's house.

Don't forget to protect those hands! Use rubber gloves religiously when doing dishes and wear gloves outside-driving,walking whenever.

You can indeed get strep & all kinds of infections that will make your skin peel.

I just hadn't thought of that when I asked about bleach.

One summer when he was in high school, my brother worked on a garbage truck.

At that time, 40-something years ago, the city didn't supply gloves & they didn't make you wear them.

My brother's hands peeled *completely*, palms & all, from something he came into contact with on that nasty truck.

Yes, Strep. And it's NOT something I read on the Internet, AngelaID - it's something that was dx'd in my daughter before the Internet was even part of my life.

Angelaid, perhaps a name change for you might be in order....totally unkind remark to make to someone trying to help.

Finger and feet peeling are a COMMON symptom of bacterial infection (staph and strep). That's one reason why the coconut oil can work, with its anti-bacterial and fungal properties. But anyone who has suffered for a long time with no relief needs to seek medical attention.

Angelaid, best practice is to check your facts BEFORE denigrating someone or something.

The skin on my fingers gets so dry in the winter that it cracks and the cracks are very painful. I have used a product called Nexcare Skin crack care which you paint on the cracks kind of like it was nail polish. It seals them. Anyway I couldn't find it in the drug store today but found liquid bandage which is essentially the same product. It works really good too. No amount of cream or oil seems to stop it but the liquid bandage makes it tolerable. It was getting so bad on so many fingers I couldn't use my smart phone!

Joann... I used to have the very same problem, those skin cracks are so painful. I would put a little glob of Neosporin with a bandaid at night. I too discovered the Nexcare skin crack care and found it worked really good, they healed a lot quicker. Have you tried Neutrogena Norwegian Hand Care Cream? It was created for Norwegian fishermen. That is what has worked the best for me. It only takes a little dab of it since it's very concentrated. I use it at night then sleep with my hands under the covers. It makes my hands feel so nice and soft and if I use it every night I don't get the painful skin cracks

dbfirewife..no I have never heard of the Norwegian hand cream. I'll see if my drug store carries it and give it a try! Thanks for the tip!

And I bet you all have good old Crisco shortening in you kitchen. Or the coconut oil. Or oliv oil. They are all great for dry skill. Also almond oil. DD uses the coconut oil all the time, everywhere. And for the Crisco use the white not the butter flavor.

I meant to post a link to the Neutrogena hand cream and forgot... so here it is. I also forgot to mention it's a small tube and comes in a box. This is the link to it at Target but you can also get it at Walmart and Walgreens and I'm sure other places.... I think the price is very reasonable, usually around 4.00.
