Unless I am familiar with the brand name won't buy food at Dollar Tree. But then there are names in the Midwest, that the western part is not familiar with.I think we have a Dollar Tree here, but not sure as I don't run around to save a few pennies--BUT that is me.

I don't travel to save pennies but when I realized that I had in my cart at DT, the price difference, I just put them back and drove the 2 minutes to WM.

Do you find any difference in quality? It's likely unfounded but I have this perception of dollar store food being old or unsafe. I don't know why. Maybe because I see brands of beauty products there that I know were discontinued many years prior so I apply that same reasoning to food.

I like the dollar store for party decorations. I don't see paying big money for things you're going to throw away in a few hours.

I admire your willingness to save money. I'm guilty of paying up to a few dollars more for an item because I don't feel like driving, parking and navigating a new store, lol.

Great that Dollar Tree has greeting cards two for one Their reading glasses are better than my RX ones..Batteries are a good deal, that is about all I buy from them. Be afraid to eat the off brand never heard of food though.

I like the little cartons of half and half from the Dollar Tree I get them for the cats. I get some of their cookies they are great on cleaning materials too. I have seen some smaller items as Glenda says.
If I need it now I buy it if not I'll wait.
Our Dollar Tree now has a frozen food section with great buys on brand name frozen things.

I have bought various food products at Dollar General stores and all are date stamped just like at any grocery store so little chance of getting anything outdated, that is illegal anyway to do it knowingly. I do check dates even at the grocery store and find more out of date items at the grocery store, I always call someone and tell them to take if off the shelf too especially if it is a refrigerated food item.
I was recently at HEB and looking for a particular type of smoked sausage every single one I picked up was expired by over a week. I told the man in that dept and he came right over and pulled it.

Dollar General carries a lot of the regular known brands of products. I buy their dry onion soup mix and prefer it to Liptons. I buy most of my cleaning supplies there, same brands much lower prices.

Not any dollar trees near me here so no longer go there.

Well, I was going to WM after I went to DT anyway.

I bought my mini pretzels at DT. Same brand as WM, same size, big difference price.

Love love honeywheat Snyder's pretzels sticks. Buy them at DT. Same size pkg, same brand, big difference in price.

Always buy my cards from DT.

Mine doesn't have the freezer section. Manager doesn't want one.

I guess WM undercutting $Tree even by a couple pennies is their way of advertising the lowest price, and running the small stores out of town.

I love our little $Tree.

But I was so disappointed last week when I couldn't find a 60th birthday card for my DS. I had already been to Kroger and looked there; they didn't have any either. Must have been a lot of people having 60th birthdays lately.

Any how, at $Tree I was surprised to find a small rack of grocery items, (not frozen).

I bought a 2pack of Doles apple/pear crisp for $1, and a 15 oz. can of Libby's Tropical Fruit Salad for 76â. Haven't opened the FS yet, but the A/P crisp is really good. Hope they will have some when I go back.

I bought Breck shampoo and conditioner there until they could no longer get it. Still have some of the conditioner. Also freezer bags, and disposable pans for under flower pots, plus other things.

RC, I'll look for the dry onion soup at DG. I use a lot of that and always buy Liptons.

The one thing I go to WalMart for is jeans and/or shirts, but haven't found any there lately that I like.

I notice that too. But, Dollar tree is one of my favorite places to go. They have things you can't buy anywhere else.

Sue, I buy my jeans from WM. Cause I'm a woman's size, I have numerous jeans. Just My Size. One thing about them is they have women's petit. I'm short and they fit my height perfectly.

Have black, brown, navy, gray, and blue in my closet.

Glenda & all - Notice you have Dollar Tree in most postings, but do you have any "Dollar Stores" near you? I love good 'ole Campbell's Soup, and Dollar Store around me (Boston's North Shore) has cans saying "35% Bigger" (regular cans are 10.5 oz) and they are 15.5 oz. That's about the only thing I run in there for & stocked up before Tksgvg in case they run out or stop making them!

We have a Dollar General, but not everything is a dollar in that store.

dollar tree has everything a $1.00 the bigger one is about 3o miles from us but well worth the drive

We also have Dollar General and Family Dollar stores True higher than a dollar on most items.

Have several pairs of knee hi's that I bought from Dollar Tree, even those low cut socks, and moisturing footies from the bath dept. I could go on and on and on with things from Dollar Tree I buy.

I go to Dollar Tree a couple of times a year and buy several pairs of reading glasses.I've discovered boxed crackers that are wonderful. The name on box is Monet, there is more than one flavor.

So is Big Lots. I don't buy anything edible at either of them. One of the stores had a recall on tooth paste. It had to much fluoride in, it was meant for other countries.

The dollar store closest to me -- I think it's Dollar Tree but there are many variations on the name that I can't recall -- was my go-to place twice this month for disposable aluminum baking pans, to bring food for 2 work parties. I hate bringing food in my own large serving dishes, cuz they're too heavy. The aluminum pans get tossed in the recycling bin.

It's also where I buy pickup bags for my little terrier's "business." I find the package of 75 diaper bags (in the baby supply aisle) to be more economical than the rolls of the larger pickup bags. I also buy liquid soap there, too.

I've never had an issue with any cookies or candy I've bought at the dollar store. I stop in there for the theater-size candy boxes and smuggle them into the movies! It's just crazy to pay theater prices for movie snacks.

I buy their cheese crackers to make my marinated crackers.

When they have it, their sweet potato chips are great!

glenda don't you miss the jean pants with pockets at wm? and used to buy every color of the rainbow tees..now you can read thru them...funny thing? one wm carried sweats up to 5x, and the other only had xxl..go figure..had heard they were going to enlarge the womans clthes section, but havn't seen it...

I buy decorations like party balloons at the $ store. Everything is a dollar, but our dollar general isn't. I don't buy food but sometimes cleaning supplies and light bulbs. .

Dollar Tree isn't the same as a Family Dollar or Dollar General just an FYI for some posting that appear to be confused. As far as I know, FD and DG have never been an everything is just a dollar store. Only Dollar Tree is an everything in the store is a dollar and only a dollar...some things are 2/1.00. Even Deals is not a dollar only store anymore. You really have to be careful in these everything is a dollar stores because a lot of times, a dollar is more than Target or Walmart charges for the same thing regular price!

A lot of times...in fact most of the time, Family Dollar and Dollar General are way most expensive than Walmart. I get the impression that FD and DG have kind of turned into more of a convenience store and are seldom all that cheap unless on sale.

I found expired milk in my local grocerey store today, sell By Nov 11 .

The reading glasses at $tore are not the same they fall apart in about a month.

$ Store had Comet for a dollar and it's 88 cents at the grocery store.

We have a 99 cent store close to my house,and it was the first one of those types of stores to come to our area several years ago.I go there before i go to the grocery store.We have a freezer section,fresh fruits and veggies and almost anything you can find in a regular grocery store,and name brands as well.There fresh fruit has been great,pints of blueberries for .99cents,as well as strawberries etc and most of it grown right here in Calif.

They recently got a new bread vendor and oh what joy that is,sour dough,multi grain,and several other great brands.It's the only place we buy saltine crackers now,they are made by Harvest Table or something like that and are just as good as premium and the other.

I have been going there for years and have never found any outdated stuff.Love that store!!!

I have 3 pr of reading glasses from DT. In fact, I always get compliments on how nice they look, and had a compliment, today.

They had a new shipment now too long ago, and these are good glasses. They are sturdy, unlike their sunglasses.
