I'm so sick of Facebook, can I hang out here awhile?

Because I write for a living, I have to use social networks, but I am sick to freaking death of FB! No real conversations, few personal posts. It's not a good place to make friends or get to know people, at least not the gang I hang out with. Everyone is just so concerned with promoting themselves. Every weekend it's sports, sports, and more sports.

I want to talk about REAL life, not cyber life! Can I please hang out with you ladies and gentlemen here? I've been reading all these posts for awhile now, and not really posting myself. Is there room at the table for one more?

You are certainly welcome, so pull up a chair. We may still be cyber-people but soon you'll find we're real, too. We're a lot like family in that we don't always get along, but in the long run we really like each other. (Speaking for myself, that is.)

And boy, do we ever talk about real life !!

I don't have Facebook, but do love to read and watch limited TV, like the Food Network, History, do hobbies and some crafting and get myself in trouble here occasionally welcome
What do you write ? books? articles? etc. I don't post pictures either, won't of my kids and haven't learned how to do others, and do love other forums, like cooking, crafts, computer etc.

In my defense, I did leave plants with eggs and cats there. At least one of the women there knew what they were, so I knew they wouldn't be moidered ;) Shannon00: It's called Bowood Farms, and it's off of Olive close to where it intersects with Washington. Really nice, clean, and attractive place. All of their plants look great, especially impressive at this time of year. They are a bit pricey on some things, but I was fine with $2.95 for 4" pots of good looking stock. I have paid that for the little 2" pots in the past. (some of the parsley was a bit leggy, but the rest was ok, and as mentioned, the fennel was *really* nice.) I am wondering if all of my current chrysalids and eggs/cats will go into diapause. It seems early for them to do that, but I was certain some would eclose last week, and they're still sittin' tight. Here is a link that might be useful: Bowood Farms

I agree! Gary and I couldn't get our cars out of the driveway this morning until a neighbor helped us push one out! Granted, I SHOULD have gotten outside to shovel earlier, but I just didn't. Gary shoveled, but the snowplow subsequently deposited a ton MORE of snow at the end of our driveway as it went by.....GRRRRR. Thankfully, I was only 15 minutes late to work! All The move. I used to live about 12 miles north of the Minot Air Force Base which is about 8 miles north of the city of Minot. Now I live about 15 miles south of the Air Force Base in the city of Minot. You wouldn't think that a 25 mile trip (one way) would have that much affect on someone, but when my husband and I were spending several evenings a week in town due to meetings, the drive home became long. That coupled with the fact that we were tired of paying rent to someone else, and the decision to move was pretty easy. In the past, the Air Force always moved us, so they packed up absolutely everything, loaded it onto the moving truck, unloaded it at the other end and I just had to unpack. This move, we had to do absolutely EVERYTHING and then make that 30 mile trip between the houses...several times. Then there was the tought of having to clean the rental unit...which I knew wouldn't be that big of a deal, but it still had to be done. In the middle of our move, I had to make a trip out to Grand Forks (about 3 hours away) to move my daughter out of her dorm and into her apartment. We took a truck load of stuff out to Grand Forks with us, unloaded that, and then loaded yet another truck load from her dorm room. I am moved out. The house is livable and my husband had been a god send. We have the remaining boxes either in the semi-finished basement or the garage, so the main living area is almost "normal." Because the new house has cathedral ceilings, the "little" pictures that I had just won't cut it, so pictures aren't up yet, but I'm not too worried about that. I haven't said anything to my husband about my sewing room, because he has been extremely stressed with the move and things at work are a night mare right now, but bless his heart, he got my sewing table set up tonight in my sewing room. I'm going to stick to my guns, however, and get the rest of the house done first, because I don't want any hurt feelings that I can play in my room but he can't play in his room (garage). I can make that sacrifice, especially seeing that I am off to a quilting class tomorrow afternoon. I will post pictures of the house, sewing room and breast cancer quilts as things progress. Lynn

NGA has many good features. Periodically, a plant is posted for evaluation, and people are generally frank. Of course, there are certain hybridizers on the site, so one treads gingerly with their plants. (Some have such national reputation though, they can easily withstand some reservations expressed about particular cultivars.) The NGA database is very valuable, with lots of photos of each plant. The biggest problem I have is that all the pics on the forum go under a monthly heading, such as "June Blooms." There is a swift progression from one poster to another, so there isn't much room for comment, and generally people just post pics without comment. Long headings are also viewer-unfriendly when a few people dominate or the post gets cluttered with idle chatter. Pictures are also smaller and really need clicking for clarity of detail.

Seriously, we're all great and generally get along. But life is full of ups and downs and spats. So this is pretty real-to-life.

Tell us more about yourself, now that you've "come out" so to speak. Do you have kids, pets? You must like gardening.

I live in No. Minnesota, kids grown, so are grand kids and gr-grandkids getting there. also have a cat named Buster, who is a genius. Hubs & I (married 56yrs) live in an APT now so the only gardening I do is 3 houseplants which I give tender loving neglect. I'm looking forward to your posts.

I've been offline due to life's challenges. I'm just starting to touch base again in the garden exchanges for Canada.

A word to the wise - be very careful reading posts while drinking anything hot. I have sprayed my laptop many times over to the point of carving my initials in the screen. (I have since spit on it and wiped it just like Mom used to do to my face.) At least now it's a little brighter but still fuzzy in spots.

I've often been temped to do facebook but NO WAY! It can get you in too much trouble and viruses too. Stay away from that place.

Sorry, I didn't mean to do a post and run. I've had a crazy weekend. My name is Deb, and I've actually been on GW off and on since 1999. I post mostly over on Florida Gardening, Brugmansias, and sometimes on Cactus and Succulents.

I write articles...lots and lots of articles. I also have a few blogs that are sadly neglected, so I'm trying to get them back up and running, especially my gardening blog.

I'm in my late 50's, have lupus, and of course, love to garden. I live in SW Florida and am soon moving to Gainesville, a whole zone north of me, where I will not have a yard at first. I'm going to try to get into a community garden there, so I can at least grow my veggies and some of my plants. Moving at my age is hard, and I thought I'd never leave here, but circumstances forced me to make a choice, so I'm leaving. This yard is too much for me to take care of anymore. I need a break from all this physical labor, but I know I could not live without gardening, so I'm thinking my African Violets will be my new indoor project.

I have two sons, 25 and 37, and they both live in Chicago. No, we aren't from Chicago, the older one was there and the younger one was in Seattle and decided he wanted to be with his brother, so there they are. So far, they are both doing well, just going through the normal trials of life, which they moan to me about just like I moaned to my mother when she was living.

I am estranged from my family by choice, so my sons are my only family. I'm happier that way.

I'm a Pantheist, which is not Christian, but I do believe in God. I just define him differently. To me, God is nature...all of nature, including humans. I searched for many years to find a spiritual path I could follow, and tried everything but Satanism in the process (but I did read about it and it is very scary...totally based on 'self' and making yourself happy, no matter what the consequence). I settled on Pantheism because it makes sense to me. There is no one and nothing to blame if things go wrong or bad things happen. It is all just part of the cycle of life, and that is hard to accept sometimes, but it makes more sense to me than angels and demons. I do pray, so I will be asking for and giving out many prayers.

Enough for now. I'm sure you will learn more about me as we go along. Thanks again for the welcome! Here, have some chocolate. I just happen to have extra.
