I'm so sick of Facebook, can I hang out here awhile?

Because I write for a living, I have to use social networks, but I am sick to freaking death of FB! No real conversations, few personal posts. It's not a good place to make friends or get to know people, at least not the gang I hang out with. Everyone is just so concerned with promoting themselves. Every weekend it's sports, sports, and more sports.

I want to talk about REAL life, not cyber life! Can I please hang out with you ladies and gentlemen here? I've been reading all these posts for awhile now, and not really posting myself. Is there room at the table for one more?

You are certainly welcome, so pull up a chair. We may still be cyber-people but soon you'll find we're real, too. We're a lot like family in that we don't always get along, but in the long run we really like each other. (Speaking for myself, that is.)

And boy, do we ever talk about real life !!

I don't have Facebook, but do love to read and watch limited TV, like the Food Network, History, do hobbies and some crafting and get myself in trouble here occasionally welcome
What do you write ? books? articles? etc. I don't post pictures either, won't of my kids and haven't learned how to do others, and do love other forums, like cooking, crafts, computer etc.

Part of the reason fungus gnats hang out is because the environment can support them, and they love a moist, humid atmosphere. If you keep your plants a touch on the dry side for a few weeks, the gnats will go elsewhere to find a livable environment. Joopitr will have a harder time getting rid of them due to the fact that it's necessary to have that humid environment, and the foods they love, fruits and partially decomposed fruits, are very available. Sprays can't be used around certain animals, so I'd recommend the little yellow sticky cards to place near your plants. They will attract the adult fungus gnats, and once you rid the area of the consecutive hatchings, which will take a while, they shouldn't be a huge problem. I had a fairly large infestation last year... I killed the adults with a flyswatter, and sprayed for the hatchlings. I also cut back on the watering a bit, and keeping the environment drier helped, also. Good luck!

I knew you had a good reason for being gone but sorry to hear the circumstances! Glad the pinkie is going to be okey!! And yes, welcome to the joys of home-ownership- it all falls on our shoulders! Yesican, LFPB4 speaks the truth. I too worked in a doctors office, and it was just as LFPB4 described. The phones rang NON-STOP, and the patients were VERY demanding & needy. Until I worked 'behind the scenes', I had no idea just how much time each patient requires/demands. Tending to a patient isn't always just a matter of answering the phone or returning a call. It was not unusual for each nurse and each receptionist to have STACKS & STACKS of charts on their desks every day, all needing return phone calls or referrals or prescription refills or insurance authorizations or reminders. It's neverending, and they are expected to do this in between seeing the patients of the day. Some of them would work through lunch, skip breaks and stay 1-2 hours, on their own time, just to take care of their patients. And this is with having 4 front office receptionists, 3 back office receptionists, and 5 nurses. Like I said, it's NON-STOP! So, as a patient, it does suck to have to leave messages or be put on hold, or have to wait 15 mins or more to be seen. But on behalf of the Doctor's staff, they really are trying. Yesican, sometimes the nurses can give lab results over the phone, you might want to ask about that. Different offices have different policies tho. In Health, Gracie Girl :)

Just looked at all your tile photos. I am so sorry this is such a disappointment. When you have work done at your home you either need, A. Someone who really knows their stuff. OR... B. Someone who may not be as expert, but will keep working till they get it right. My DH does most of our work on the house and he fits into both categories, depending on the specific job. Your guy is not A apparently, but he could be B.....maybe. I want to ask one question, since I don't know how much you have posted on this before. I realize that the tile installer knows he messed up--that's why he has to keep coming back....Duh. But have you sat down and had a specific conversation with him about your tile? So, Joe....I guess this tile installation is just as frustrating to you as it has been to me. And while I feel bad having to keep calling you to fix spots, I am seriously wanting to have my floor DONE. I have other things to finish in my home and this tile situation is preventing that. You are the Expert. What do you think we need to do to get this job finished so we can shake hands and be done? You want to give 100% to other clients right now, and I want to not have any more thinset anywhere in my home. What are your suggestions? This is more or less how I would talk to Joe the Tile guy. Sometimes just having a real definitive conversation will provide insight on finishing up a problem. Now, you Know he's not much of an Expert and you are obviously More frustrated than he is, but it is still kind to word it like this. Maybe he feels that for some more $$$ he could go back in and do the definitive tile job for you? If that's what he says, then you can decide if you want to throw more money his way. Maybe he is over his head and doesn't know how to do a repair. In that case, you may need to hire someone else to finish. Either way, you may get some clarity. Red

Seriously, we're all great and generally get along. But life is full of ups and downs and spats. So this is pretty real-to-life.

Tell us more about yourself, now that you've "come out" so to speak. Do you have kids, pets? You must like gardening.

I live in No. Minnesota, kids grown, so are grand kids and gr-grandkids getting there. also have a cat named Buster, who is a genius. Hubs & I (married 56yrs) live in an APT now so the only gardening I do is 3 houseplants which I give tender loving neglect. I'm looking forward to your posts.

I've been offline due to life's challenges. I'm just starting to touch base again in the garden exchanges for Canada.

A word to the wise - be very careful reading posts while drinking anything hot. I have sprayed my laptop many times over to the point of carving my initials in the screen. (I have since spit on it and wiped it just like Mom used to do to my face.) At least now it's a little brighter but still fuzzy in spots.

I've often been temped to do facebook but NO WAY! It can get you in too much trouble and viruses too. Stay away from that place.

Sorry, I didn't mean to do a post and run. I've had a crazy weekend. My name is Deb, and I've actually been on GW off and on since 1999. I post mostly over on Florida Gardening, Brugmansias, and sometimes on Cactus and Succulents.

I write articles...lots and lots of articles. I also have a few blogs that are sadly neglected, so I'm trying to get them back up and running, especially my gardening blog.

I'm in my late 50's, have lupus, and of course, love to garden. I live in SW Florida and am soon moving to Gainesville, a whole zone north of me, where I will not have a yard at first. I'm going to try to get into a community garden there, so I can at least grow my veggies and some of my plants. Moving at my age is hard, and I thought I'd never leave here, but circumstances forced me to make a choice, so I'm leaving. This yard is too much for me to take care of anymore. I need a break from all this physical labor, but I know I could not live without gardening, so I'm thinking my African Violets will be my new indoor project.

I have two sons, 25 and 37, and they both live in Chicago. No, we aren't from Chicago, the older one was there and the younger one was in Seattle and decided he wanted to be with his brother, so there they are. So far, they are both doing well, just going through the normal trials of life, which they moan to me about just like I moaned to my mother when she was living.

I am estranged from my family by choice, so my sons are my only family. I'm happier that way.

I'm a Pantheist, which is not Christian, but I do believe in God. I just define him differently. To me, God is nature...all of nature, including humans. I searched for many years to find a spiritual path I could follow, and tried everything but Satanism in the process (but I did read about it and it is very scary...totally based on 'self' and making yourself happy, no matter what the consequence). I settled on Pantheism because it makes sense to me. There is no one and nothing to blame if things go wrong or bad things happen. It is all just part of the cycle of life, and that is hard to accept sometimes, but it makes more sense to me than angels and demons. I do pray, so I will be asking for and giving out many prayers.

Enough for now. I'm sure you will learn more about me as we go along. Thanks again for the welcome! Here, have some chocolate. I just happen to have extra.
