Any KT'ers going through the agony of trying to MOVE?

My house has been on the all-but-dried up market for almost two months now, and I'm a frazzled basketcase. There's been some pretty good traffic on Open Houses, but no offers. I'm single and am making all these decisions myself -- first of all, to move from a house I really love; second, worry about money; third, will I find something I like once this is sold? -- etc. I'm having nightmares about being homeless; it is like all my security is gone. I realize how much I've depended on my cute little space for that security. I know in my head that (for various reasons) it is time to move, and I'm not second-guessing the decision, but I can't seem to keep the anxiety level down. About 95% of that anxiety is purely imaginary. I really hate this.

I'm in the process. Luckly, I can move before selling, and amd doing it gradually. But, living between 2 houses isn't a lot of fun, either. Like, where's the breadmaker?
I will put my house on the market in the early spring.
I'm also leaving a home where i've lived for almost 25 years. I'm comfortable here, but it's time to move.A lot of stuff accumulates in 25 years. It's a lot of work. Anyone want boxes of computer manuals from the 1970's??

If you love it, why are you moving. I was single (widow at the time for 3 mo.) and did it by myself. However, I was moving into something brand new, and wouldn't have to mow or scoop snow anymore myself. All new appliances, furnace ect. So nothing to go wrong for some time. My house was on the market for 6 months. November thru April. Not prime moving time in Nebraska. However it did work out, just right. I moved all my stuff into storage, except for what I absolutely had to have to go to work, and exist. My, washer/dryer, bed, clothes, coffee pot, and computer/desk. It made it a lot easier to keep clean to show.

Another way to do this is to perhaps START A GROUP using that option at Facebook. I joined a KT group thinking it was this forum only to find out it was for people with the initials KT., lol. So I quickly removed myself from that group. Sapphires

momof4, here's what I'd suggest...but first, what state are you in btw? Contact legal aid again and any legal clinics in your area that can refer you to a law firm that would consider taking your case on a pro bono basis. I am not a full-time family law practitioner but I handle several family law cases per year pro bono that are either referred to the firm by an outside legal organization or for a family or friend that I convince the firm to let me work on. Do you or your husband or a friend know any attorneys? The legal market is horrible right now and I suspect you could find a good underutilized attorney willing to take DH's case pro bono quite easily. Good luck. I spent 12 years at the telephone company. I worked directory assistance,and then long distance, I also helped with keeping the directory up -to-date and with keeping track of the hours everyone worked. I stayed home for a couple of years and when DD started school. I was bored and started working at the University of Georgia part time. Eventually, had part-time hours and full time work so I went to full time. I worked for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education. We provided cont. Ed. seminars for attorneys. I was an Event Planner officially but didn't plan the events. (go figure). I got the programs after they were over. I was the person that everyone went to when they needed something done yesterday. I retired May 1, 2010 but did go back to work in Feb. & March to help out during their busy time. It was nice. I was just part-time again and just had to go do my job and go home. No responsibility! The first two KTer's I met were Pat Lavender and FranCes....and my sister embarrassed me. She insisted on going with me in case one of them was an axe murderer. But now I know Wildchild is really the axe murderer. The only reason I have survived our visits is because I take her to Jocko's for steak. I remember going to a get together at Joni's in Ventura long ago and then a couple of them in Bakersfield I have pictures from a Tehachapi trip. I got rescued by Flamingo from a shopping mall in Branson...I think it was Branson. It is really great meeting KTers and hope anyone who travels on the central coast of California will contact me.

We just got through with this process. It was a huge, HUGE job, but we got it done. We sold a home we had for 21 years and left a town where we had lived since 1978. It was not easy. I loved the house, I loved the town but we really could not afford to own two houses. So, move we did.

Remember, marita, any move is a big change and way up there on the stress chart. It sounds like you are sure of your decission. Just remember...baby steps. Your house will sell, you will get it all done, you will find a nice new place and life will be good. Just get though this and all will be good. Baby steps...and, one day at a time.

I'm moving because my neighborhood is going south -- the signs are everywhere. So I'm trying to move "up" to a more stable area.

sooey, you are so right. I have to keep telling myself, one step at a time. . .it is really mind over matter.

Moving is awful. After my divorce, I moved 10 times in five years. Had it down to a science and had all my stuff in boxes, organized and labeled, of course.

My heart goes out to you. Moving is tough, but it's also quite an adventure! And there's no better way to cull unneeded stuff than to move!

"And there's no better way to cull unneeded stuff than to move!" Isn't that the truth! The expression in my family is that 3 moves is as good as a fire.

this is a rough time and being realistic, you probably won't get an offer till after the holidays...but don't give up hope! this might be a great time to down-size so you have less to pack!
