Any KT'ers going through the agony of trying to MOVE?

My house has been on the all-but-dried up market for almost two months now, and I'm a frazzled basketcase. There's been some pretty good traffic on Open Houses, but no offers. I'm single and am making all these decisions myself -- first of all, to move from a house I really love; second, worry about money; third, will I find something I like once this is sold? -- etc. I'm having nightmares about being homeless; it is like all my security is gone. I realize how much I've depended on my cute little space for that security. I know in my head that (for various reasons) it is time to move, and I'm not second-guessing the decision, but I can't seem to keep the anxiety level down. About 95% of that anxiety is purely imaginary. I really hate this.

I'm in the process. Luckly, I can move before selling, and amd doing it gradually. But, living between 2 houses isn't a lot of fun, either. Like, where's the breadmaker?
I will put my house on the market in the early spring.
I'm also leaving a home where i've lived for almost 25 years. I'm comfortable here, but it's time to move.A lot of stuff accumulates in 25 years. It's a lot of work. Anyone want boxes of computer manuals from the 1970's??

If you love it, why are you moving. I was single (widow at the time for 3 mo.) and did it by myself. However, I was moving into something brand new, and wouldn't have to mow or scoop snow anymore myself. All new appliances, furnace ect. So nothing to go wrong for some time. My house was on the market for 6 months. November thru April. Not prime moving time in Nebraska. However it did work out, just right. I moved all my stuff into storage, except for what I absolutely had to have to go to work, and exist. My, washer/dryer, bed, clothes, coffee pot, and computer/desk. It made it a lot easier to keep clean to show.

This is better then Ann Landers(Why do like to read that column) I am off schedule with my plants and it shows. When on schedule, I just love tending to them weekly. Most of them are in plastic or clay pots that sit in a decorative pot. I bring them one my one to the sink and spray or water them so that water runs thru the pot. They sit on the sink until the water stops dripping out of them. I seem to love this actvity. I have been busy over the holidays and into the new year and thus...I am off schedule and find myself watering a grouping of plants at a time and I can't keep strait which group is next. I have favorite spots and favorite pots. Plants that have pleased me will get both a good spot and pot. I don't move my plants around a lot but I have downsized my collection and I am an empty-nester with a big house. I generally move plants so that I can enjoy them more and if I notice this bothers the plant, I move it back to the place I know it likes and leave it there until they all get moved out into the breeze way. Orchids don't seem to be fussy. I just moved two phals into the top pot spot and boy do they receive applause from everyone who walks into my living room. I tend to mist plants when I am stressed and need plant care to soothe myself. It helps me so I do not over water them. Also if a plant that needs more humidity seems to be dropping leaves, I feel misting could possible help. Diane, who is trying to think spring Happy New Year BTW

bloobird, About the AOL ISP numbers, the AOL numbers in the code that I see do not indicate the location of the user. Unless I and several other users all happen to live in the AOL offices in Manassas, Virginia. I can state with complete and utter confidence that I do not live in Manassas, that I do not live in Virginia, and that I do not share the same identities with the others here on GW who are signing in using that ISP number. There is no way to tell from that number anything about the user other than that they are using AOL. Sometimes an AOL number will indicate that the user is in the state of Washington. Something connected to AOL is in the state of Washington but it doesn't mean that the user is there. (Note, if you didn't read my earlier post about my going online and posting with AOL, then this might not make sense to you, bloobird. So you'd have to go back and read that post and look at the code.) To determine where an AOL user lives, you'd have to know their AOL user name which the ISP number does not give you. It doesn't even tell you that it is an AOL individual. It tells you that the person uses AOL. That is ALL it tells you. Even if you knew the user's name, if they hadn't filled out an AOL profile, that doesn't tell you where they live or anything about them. They can be quite anonymous. I do NOT know that my stalker uses AOL. In fact I thought that they did not use AOL. I do know that they know enough about ISPs that they know that using AOL obscures their identity. And AOL is free if you access it by using another server as I do. So it is easy to sign up for AOL and use it if someone wants to for any reason. It is not good for being on the internet at it tends to kick you off. So someone could write a post and get kicked off before they submit it and then they'd have to write it again. That would be annoying. So I doubt that many use it for this purpose unless it is their only access to the internet or they want to obscure their identity. As for my stalker, I don't think they are intending to harrass me if they are here or they would have done it by now. It may be that if the person is here that they are content just to have located me and to read the threads. That might be sufficient for them. It is someone whom I know and from whom I am estranged. I would not report them to anybody unless they did something pretty horrendous. So I may go back to my other name. I haven't decided yet. I kind of like this name too. Decisions, decisions!

i am not an A/C fan, even thou i live in sunny hot orlando, but i would never ever do this. i already know for fact how this works. yrs ago DH allowed his father to move in w/ us because he could not care for himself and his dad paid the electric bill. well his dad promptly signed up for this 'energy saving' program and the A/C was off from 8am-6pm...well since i worked 5 days a week on 12 hr schedules & i was gone 15 hrs a day LOL but it took forever for our townhouse to get anywhere near 80 at night. it would have been even worse if i was not working outside in the blazing fl sun all day and 80 was long sleeve temps to me lol. here we are in the mid 90's from may thru nov so it can get quite hot in a house w/o A/C by 9 am for most people. we do the averaging program and save $$ on it. dh pays utilities and is lucky i'm comfy at 80-82 during the day w/ ceiling fans running and 74-75 at night :-) he was miserable at our old house w/ that energy program his dad did. atleast i know we'll never do that in this house. i don't believe it saves you much $$ when your A/C has to run extra hard trying to cool down a hot house in the evenings, not to mention the wear on the A/C ~ liz

momof4, here's what I'd suggest...but first, what state are you in btw? Contact legal aid again and any legal clinics in your area that can refer you to a law firm that would consider taking your case on a pro bono basis. I am not a full-time family law practitioner but I handle several family law cases per year pro bono that are either referred to the firm by an outside legal organization or for a family or friend that I convince the firm to let me work on. Do you or your husband or a friend know any attorneys? The legal market is horrible right now and I suspect you could find a good underutilized attorney willing to take DH's case pro bono quite easily. Good luck. We just got through with this process. It was a huge, HUGE job, but we got it done. We sold a home we had for 21 years and left a town where we had lived since 1978. It was not easy. I loved the house, I loved the town but we really could not afford to own two houses. So, move we did.

Remember, marita, any move is a big change and way up there on the stress chart. It sounds like you are sure of your decission. Just remember...baby steps. Your house will sell, you will get it all done, you will find a nice new place and life will be good. Just get though this and all will be good. Baby steps...and, one day at a time.

I'm moving because my neighborhood is going south -- the signs are everywhere. So I'm trying to move "up" to a more stable area.

sooey, you are so right. I have to keep telling myself, one step at a time. . .it is really mind over matter.

Moving is awful. After my divorce, I moved 10 times in five years. Had it down to a science and had all my stuff in boxes, organized and labeled, of course.

My heart goes out to you. Moving is tough, but it's also quite an adventure! And there's no better way to cull unneeded stuff than to move!

this is a rough time and being realistic, you probably won't get an offer till after the holidays...but don't give up hope! this might be a great time to down-size so you have less to pack!
