Ugh! Just lost half my desserts!

Oh no! Our Thanksgiving plans were a small group for dinner and then this evening several more people will join us for dessert. Just got a phone call from one of the small group people - she's sick and not coming. But...she was supposed to bring several desserts!! What I have here isn't enough to feed everyone.

Can't change that she's sick and I feel bad because now we won't see her or her husband,

My son and husband are on their way to the grocery store right now to buy ice cream and anything else they find.

Hope everyone else's Thanksgiving Day is going smoothly.

It's best your found out she was sick before everyone ate her dessert. I hope the rest of your day goes well.

glad she didn't "bite the bullet"....i'm leary about dd1 coming over tomorrow...bad cold!

Hi Nomen~ Thank you for your help! I actually hate Euphorbia's :-/ But hubby had to pick something out... and I asked him recently to go find his plant in the greenhouse and he had no clue.. He just wanted to shop. lol.. medusae sounds like something he would pick . lol The little thimble cactus, blank on the real name at the moment.. Arizona snow cap or something like that.. I had just tossed in there because it's pot got knocked over. lol.. It's a Hawothia I want to add to the pot. I'll try and do a little more google.. Not sure when I can get over to Arid lands..

I'm also in zone 5 and also had a large number of casualties. I was using the shallow 288 cell trays to germinate and one morning I had several seedlings that looked healthy and I was in a hurry so I thought I'd just transplant them when I got off work. I came home to find nearly all them were laying over on their sides. I think the cells dried out and being on the heat pad made it too hot for them. Fortunately some of them did recover after watering and moving them from the heat pad. I started a new batch of seeds and I'm hoping they will make it. The ones I'm most concerned about are the long season ones like the Habanero types. Those I may pot so I can bring inside if they don't mature in time before the first frost. It doesn't hurt to try new seeds. We both are now pushing it as it's late April.

Bestyears, I'm so sorry for your loss. I can imagine the joy that Ash brought into your life, & the void he leaves behind. I wonder if Ash knew it was his time & stayed behind in the car because he was seeking a quiet resting place. I know, it may sound far-fetched, but it is possible! It has been said that all animals know when they are about to die, & they will often seek out a cave-like environment, perhaps under a bed or in a densely planted area, so they may peacefully pass away.Though you may not of known of any health problems, Ash may have had this awareness. One thing is for certain, Ash passed away knowing he was loved & cared for. I'm sure you were a wonderful cat mom, as all of your posts here indicate that you are a kind, warm-hearted person. I'm sure Ash received the best care possible throughout his decade on earth. I would find some comfort in knowing that my cat died a peaceful death. Ash was not hit by a car or attacked by a dog. A grizzly fate such as that would be even more devastating, as then Ash would have suffered great pain. I know these days must be so painful for you. My thoughts & prayers are with you as you grieve. Peace be with you.

I thought it was delicious, but maybe quite as special as I'd hoped, if that makes any sense. My daughter and her family had good things to say, but they're polite. :-) I'll have to ask for an honest opinion before I make it again. One thing: I always cut down on sugar. I didn't cut a lot from this recipe, but put less than the 1/4 cup called for on the bananas, and a little less than the 1/2 cup in the milk mixture. Even so, I was surprised that it wasn't sweeter.

My husband and son spent $31 at the store - ice cream and 3 cakes. I had made 3 pies. The good news is that every single dessert was cut or scooped into, making people very happy. Or until, as Fran mentioned, they stepped onto the scale the next morning.

Dinner went well, lots of leftovers. And the dessert evening went very well also. My older son and his girlfriend were part of the evening visitors. Last year they spent the day with us, the whole thing. They didn't leave to also try to see any of her family. So I knew a year ago that this year they would spend the day with her family. I was very pleased that they did share some of their time with us because I hadn't asked them to. I don't want to be a pill!

Cara, I'm glad it worked out. Nothing wrong with store-bought desserts and everyone likes ice cream. Sorry your friend is sick, but it's better she stay home and not share her germs. I remember one Christmas Eve, my MIL had a nasty gut bug but insisted we come over for Christmas Eve dinner (the feast of seven fishes or something like that). I got sick a couple days later.
