Do You Have Snow?

It is really snowing here. The flakes are about as big as a silver dollar it looks like! Temperature is dropping and right now in our woods it is 32. The ground is pretty much covered already. I am glad Amber and I got back from our grocery shopping and that it is done for the week. Had planned to go tomorrow but they are predicting icy conditions. Do you have snow or rain or how is your weather?

We got our snow for Halloween..today it is total overcast and cool, temps about 45 and possibly some light rain tonight.

Nope, haven't had a snowfall yet. Right now it's raining, steady. We are supposed to have winter come late, but be a La Nina winter this year, with lots of snow and storms. Time will tell....

My Frosted and Holy Mouse Ears are doing just fine. Mighty Mouse being the very best of them all. Cat and Mouse is vigorous, but gets several all green eyes. This is a very variable bunch of hostas. (not all actually related). Obviously different for each of us here. Worth growing, IMHO, to see which ones do well for you. They are staying tight and small. UNLIKE Dancing Mouse that in its first year has leaves larger than my original Blue Mouse Ears. Hallson's Spring newsletter had some interesting observations regarding mice with ruffled ears. I may wait for Chris to register his smaller version so I can compare the two. -Babka

The snow was gone here a couple weeks ago and thank goodness for this weather so far! After the past couple years (and even last month) where we've had below normal winter and spring temps, it's a nice break. You can thank a positive NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation) and a neutral to slightly positive Pacific Oscillation for that. We had gotten so accustomed to teens and twenties for highs every winter for weeks at a time and being pushed to consider that "normal" (which it isn't, at least here in SE PA), that what we are experiencing now seems "mild" and in reality, it's closer to "normal" and what the temps should be (highs mid - upper 30s and lows in the mid 20s for the coldest month of January). Since the beginning of December, I have watched below normal weather here in the east being idiotically cheered on by several commercial weather forecasters (some who finally admitted that they were "snow lovers" after weeks on end threatening that winter is coming... winter is coming.... look out.... And even concocting hypothetical graphical scenarios illustrating what would need to occur to theoretically produce even more severely below normal cold weather), while those same ones cheered on the above-normal temps elsewhere across the U.S. But god forbid, let us struggle to normal and slightly above and they get their panties in a twist. Meanwhile out west, temps are some 30 degrees above normal. :-\ Sorry for the weather rant...but I've been wanting to get that out. ;-) beanmomma - if you can remember the winter of 2001 - 2002, you might be able to predict whether your plants will come out of dormancy too soon. I have a couple new potted shrubs and a new containered tree (a plum that only needs 250 chill hours which I'm sure has gotten that by now) that I am watching too. Right now it seems that the temp range has been perfect for "chill hour" accumulation. But I think as long as we do hit or go below freezing at night, I expect the plants will hang on in dormancy awhile longer. Crossing fingers that we can make it through this month like this and squeak through February the same way, then we should be pretty much on our way to spring! :-)

No ... thanks. I took my long johns on a ten-day trip to Saskatchewan and Alberta, to help my brother celebrate 50th wedding anniversary - figured I should, as I married them. Weather was pleasant there, didn't use the long johns. On return flight from Calgary, after overflying Michigan and dropping down toward London airport, it looked to me as though a good number of snowflakes were flying by the window ... so I suggested in an announcement to the passengers within earshot that if their friends accused them of bringing a mess of snow from Calgary ... that they should assure them that they had nothing to do with it! On arrival, it turned out that they'd had rain. Next morning, going out to inspect the garden, it was chilly and windy, so rather than be somewhat uncomfortable ... I put on the long johns. Actually, my theory is that in coolish climates, if one travels around rather lightly clad as the chill begins, it enables one to deal more easily with the cold weather in February. No snow around here yet. ole joyful

Ok, you had me (and DH) at bacon... basil, cream cheese, garlic, spinach, sausage, mushrooms, et al is just icing (and frosting and glaze and whipped cream and ice cream) on the cake. Where, what time, and should we bring anything other than extra cholesterol pills? I've got a woven bacon-wrapped boneless chicken thigh with rich 2 sauces recipe I make when we've had too much exercise and steamed vegetables ; - ) It's rich, utterly decadent, and we love to indulge on occasion! Just salmon and steamed veggies tonight, soups this weekend... DH is mow-mulching leaves while it's spitting snow here, and I've got a couple giant rolls of bubble wrap with my name on them to start packing things up in preparation for demo... Have a good weekend, and enjoy your HOA round-robin!

Not yet but just south & east of us in Michigan there is a winter storm warning for tonight. It's only for 1-3", not much but possible slippery conditions on the roads. I am looking forward to winter settling in - ask if I still feel that way when we can't get out the door or keep up with the snow on the ground and roof!

I think it has snowed in our county six or seven times in the last 50 years......when it does, it stopped everything.
I love our climate and if I want to go to the snow, I can.
I prefer not.

Not yet, but expecting a bad day tomorrow then clear for couple of days until the weekend. Believe me NO ONE is complaining here as many are still out of their homes or in fEMA trailers and they are not as warm as they should be.

No snow here yet, but it sure changed quick. When we left the house at 1 pm, it was beautiful after a morning of rain. The temp was 61 degrees and the sun was blinding. Drove to Target to pick up a few things and when we got back to the van at 1:45, it was 49 degrees, the sun was gone and the wind was very chilling. We are down to 43 now at 3:45. I think that snow in coming our way.

Just missed me. Just rain. No one really took the forecast seriously. As there was no big rush to get bread and milk.

not in NE T yet. It all went east of us. got into the high 30 in the erly morning in the hisgh 20's tonight but no snow yet. Beautiful sunny day today

Absolutely beautiful here today, for this time of year. The sun is shining, it's 37 degrees, and there's no wind. Everyone is all smiles when they meet. We had a bit of snow last week, but it melted over night. Sort of hope we get some to cover the icky brown. Not too much, Mother Nature!!

No snow yet in my part of Ohio, but they're saying we may get some tomorrow. It will be alright with me if it skips us altogether this year.

I think it's neat that we have so many climates in our country. Temperate coastal, desert, mountain, forest, prairie/plains, tropical. Our winters range from bitter cold to short-sleeve comfortable though I suppose we pay for it with the range of natural disasters that we get! Earthquakes, wildfires, tornados, blizzards, hurricanes...

It's really quite amazing to me. There aren't a whole lot of countries that can say the same thing.

I am near Buffalo NY - no snow yet! The weather has really been beautiful. Rain today, maybe wet snow tomorrow but overall very nice.

Not even close. It's raining, and temps are in the high 60's. Pretty amazing for this time of year.

Yes we have snow...heavy wet messy snow. Mostly on the grassy areas. County schools were delayed by 2 hours but city schools went on time. Roads on my route were mainly wet with one or two slushy slick.. Snow in November unheard of around here.
