Food stains on clothing

I just pulled out some of my winter clothes. On a couple of my tops were yellow stains. Apparently when I put them away for the season I didn't notice the stain. How can I remove them? They are acrylic-cotton knits. I don't think just a washing will work. Thanks for your help.

You can try using Dawn dish detergent on it and washing it. If that doesn't work, try the Tide Stain Release. It says it can be put directly on the stain but don't let it dry on the fabric. I've been using it that way on some of ours. I have't tried it on old stains tho. And I don't own any stock in Tide!

Try Oxiclean. We have bad water, even with soft water and stuff to take iron out.
There are several types, over several washings some real old stains seem to be disappearing.

I have become the owner of a vintage but not antique (40's maybe?) embroidered tablecloth, looks linen but I suppose could be a cotton blend. When I took it out and opened it up fully to try it on the table, I discovered that a cat had apparently mistaken the box it came in for a litter box at some point, resulting in a 6" spot on the cloth that is actually not yellow, but is rimmed in a mold/mildewy-looking ring of blackish spotting, and which smells vaguely of cat pee. The cloth is large and the embroidery is red (of course), and I haven't the place to hang the full cloth (or lay it flat) if I hand-wash the entire cloth in the tub. Is there anything I can use on the spot? Fortunately, it is small.

Thanks so kindly all! Not sure the talc did any good but I had already wet the stain before putting power on it. Next I tried straight acetone. It did take some of the oil colorant out but not enough. Right now it's got Dawn on the two spots. I have a kick-but* auto (interior) spot remover that is a miracle product. I'll try that next. I'm sure the oil is gone by now. If nothing works, I'll call the store to see if they can find one this late in the season. I kinda doubt they can. But they're used to me calling and trying to find the exact shirt or one like it in different colors. If I really really like it, I'll buy an extra. For those that were wondering "why is she using stain in her favorite shirt?" Well, I wasn't really. I let the grandkids use the extra stain on large box that DH's new sink came in. Normally I would put a cloth over the lid before I started hammering it close. I didn't :(

I thought about this thread today when I found a great deal. A KMart about 15 minutes from me is closing and since I'm on the hunt for good deals on school clothes I headed there. I figured all the kids clothes would be picked over considering its 40 to 70 % off but wow the store was packed with stuff. Widh I would have been able bbq to buy more... but just for Chip(9) I got 8 tee's with characters and different stuff on them, 4 pairs of jeans, 3 shorts, 2 packs of 7 boxer briefs, 6 pk of white undershirts, 12 pk of socks, a Chicago Bulls book bag, a tee shirt and a hoodie with his school logo, 3 Polo Club short sleeved button up shirts all for 77$. I could not believe the great deal. I got Tim as almost the same sorts of stuff minus the jeans and book bag but found him a winter coat and his stuff came to 68$

Spread T-shirt, lay on bed, front side down, top away from you. Pull end of left sleeve to just at right side of neck hole, using other hand to keep edge of body straight. Repeat with right side, keeping width at bottom similar to that at top. Grab both sides of bottom, place at top corners, grab top corners along with bottoms, lift and flip so they face toward you, place front-side up and top toward you, just beyond your folding area. Fold other shirts in similar fashion, make piles with ones for dress, ones for daily use ... cleaning and dirty work, gardening, etc. Pick up pile of up to a half dozen or so by top corners, place into drawers, dress ones on the left, if you so choose. I have a separate pile for the V-neck ones. One more use for educated hands: one less handy helper that I don't need to find a place to store. Many now live in smallish apts - lack a generous-sized farmhouse such as I enjoy (and clutter). ole joyful

If you think they might be oil based stains you can squirt some lighter fluid on the stains and then wash as usual. I've had plenty of old set-in stains come out that way.

I bought a old floral tablecloth from eBay and was looking for a way to remove all the stains from it. I found this recipe and let the tablecloth soak over night in the mixture. All the stains are gone and the white on it is now white and not yellowed!!

5 min 5 min prep

1/2 cup clorox 2 powder bleach
1/2 cup ivory liquid dishwashing soap (original formula)

1. You can make this using any amount of"ingredients", as long as the Clorox 2 Powder (it MUST be the powder) and Ivory dishwashing liquid are mixed in equal parts. If "Ivory Joy dishwashing liquid" continues to appear, be aware that this is IVORY not Joy liquid.
2. Add luke warm water to the mixture, enough to make a sudsy'bath' for your items.
3. Let the garment (s) sit covered in the water for at least one hour.
4. Check to see if the stain has disappeared.
5. If it is still there, soak until the stain is gone.

I used Ultra Ivory cause I couldn't find the original. Worked fine!

When I find a stain like that, I bring it to my dry cleaner. They can often get out set-in type food stains.

lol Moni! No, haven't forgot my 'recipe'! Lighter fluid is always the first thing I try on a stain, if that doesn't work or if it's a big item that needs lot of help... I dig out the stain-removal recipe.

I soak it overnight in the machine on the lowest level of hot water with 1 cup of detergent and 1 cup of Cascade. Then in the morning I just run the cycle.
