What Is Your Favorite Way to Use Leftover...

What is your favorite way to use leftover mashed potatoes? I used some this week in my yeast roll dough. I used a cup in each. Makes them nice and soft. My potatoes only had salt, butter and milk in them nothing funny to make the rolls taste off. How about you, what is your way to use them up?

I add an egg, then make potatoe patties and fry them. salt & pepper to eat. yummmmmmmmmm

Shepherd's pie! Stoney's potato cakes sound really good, too. My mother sometimes made potato salad out of mashed potatoes. I still prefer it that way.

16 oz 110 copper sheet scraps stamped with a pin punch and wired on with 12 gauge electric wire scraps. Turns brown, then green. 110 copper is very malleable, 16 oz is right thickness.

Roast beef one day, after that you can have beef and gravy on buns or BBQ beef on bun, croquettes, hash, or it also goes excellent in homeade spaghetti sauce which also freezes without noticing. Make Cabbage rolls or the casserole, use scrap pieces of cabbage and cabbage water with ground beef and veggies for cabbage soup, save some rice for a stir fry, fried rice or chicken and rice dish. Roast Chicken, chicken soup, chicken and dunplings, chicken salad, chiken divan, chicken and rice. Ham, ham salad, mac and cheese, pea soup, cauliflower ham casserole. Leftover poatoes, shephers pie, hamburger gravy on potatoes, potato pancakes, fish cakes, fast potato salad. Fish, fish cakes, chowder. Chili, chili dogs, chili fries, chili cornbread casserole, chil burritos Salad, mix with any meat and cremy dressing and make wraps Turkey, hot turkey sandwiches, Soup, turkey and stufffing casserole, turkey mixed with stir fried veggies or with salsa and pasta Sausage, homeade pierogies, sausage rolls, pork and beans, sausage, bean and pasta casserole with cheese. Pork roast, pork stew (I am at a loss with pork) You can make meat pies with almost any leftover.

I make several of the things listed here, but I also make the following: Chicken & black bean burritos: Preheat oven to 350Â°. Mix together: - 1 c. cooked chicken, pulled apart - 1 can black beans, drained - 1 c. sweet corn (I use frozen) - canned salsa to moisten everything - about 1/2 t. cumin and 1 t. chili powder Lay out six flour tortillas, and split the chicken/bean mixture equally among them, laying it in a stripe down the middle of each tortilla. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top of the chicken/bean mixture, then roll up and put side-by-side on a cookie sheet. Spread some more salsa and shredded cheese on the tops of the burritos, then bake for about 30 minutes, until hot. My other use for cooked chicken is stir-fry: Cut up about 1 cup chicken in cubes or smallish pieces. Then cut up whatever vegetables you have on hand, raw or cooked, into approximately even-sized pieces. I always use an onion to start, and will often use carrot, celery, broccoli, sweet red peppers, zucchini, whatever. Heat a wok or big frypan over high heat, and add about 2 T. oil. While this is heating, mix up a simple sauce of about 1/2 c. cold water, 1 heaping T. cornstarch, and some ground ginger and soy sauce. I mix it in a Tupperware container with a tight-fitting top so I can shake the mixture. Now, when the oil is hot, start adding vegetables. Start with the onions, cook until soft but not done, then begin adding other vegetables. Add the ones that need to cook longer first, and the ones that don't take long later. Add the chicken near the end, as you just have to heat it. Keep everything moving, using a spoon or spatula. When everything is cooked, turn down the heat to medium-low and add the sauce mixture. Cook for a minute or two, until it's hot and thickened. Serve over rice.

It's said to be more useful if applied in the autumn Dan, for that very reason. Nutrients have all winter to break down. Part of the ideal, whether spring or autumn, is not necessarily focusing on feeding the plants, but rather feeding the soil. Feed to the soil life, which is in much more abundance if not tilled, and they feed the plants all the mineral and nutrients they need, that is otherwise harder for the plant to get in the soil when tilling due to less of that soil life, thus the need for more of those nutrients in regular feeding schedules. You COULD just use a thick, heavy mulch of primarily hay and leaves or some other organic matter, and I am doing that as well as the compost, but the compost provides a stronger start for a brand NEW garden due to a space to sow seeds into, transplant plants into, as well as give a quick feed to the soil life. Not to mention it's also full of soil life, which, if taken care of, can possibly provide some long term nutrients to the plant in a brand new garden as that. Its going to be a very interesting experiment. I have some beds tilled to compare of course. I would recommend checking out Charles Dowding if you are interested. I am largely following a combination of his and Ruth Stout's methods. He has website with bi-weekly updates on his market garden as well as all of the experiments he runs. It's a very neat concept. Of course, he is in the U.K. so a bit different climate, making this an even more adventurous experiment.

Definitely shepherd's pie!
I also add some chopped onion and an egg to the potatoes.
Take out glob and roll it in breadcrumbs and bake in the oven.

How could I forget one of our favourites?
Company potatoes, with sour cream and cheddar cheese and onions in a casserole. Tastes just like twice-baked, but a whoooole lot easier!

I do the same as Stoneybaloney, we love them that way! Sometimes I add a touch of flour to give them body.

agree with granlan, my mother's mashed potato patties. I have never been able to make them like hers, so I don't. She never had a recipe.

I was always pretty good at cooking just what we need for a meal. I don't care much for leftovers. Sometimes I made a large meat loaf or post roast for sandwiches later. Love both with mayo and sweet pickles.

I do not care for reheated potatoes in any form, but my son's dog loves them. I am not supposed to feed him table scraps, but that is his and my secret.

I too like the potato patties and potato salad. Now I like using them in the rolls, could use them in bread too. I love sheperd's pie too. Around here an open faced sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy is called a Manhattan. Any kind of meat, beef, turkey, or whatever. All sound good to me.

Don't have leftover mashed potatoes, because I make just enough. We also don't eat them often because we are big on pasta here!

My mom shaped them into patties and fried them in butter. Soooo good, and for the life of me I cannot duplicate what she did.
