I've slidden into laziness; a cooking tale of woe

I'm having dinner with the neighbors. We're keeping it simple, but I've made home-made dressing and cranberry/orange relish to go with the bird they're roasting. We're going to watch a movie afterwards. I've been so busy the past couple of weeks it will feel good to sit down and relax.

I did something this year I've never, ever done before. Every year, since I was 12-years-old and Grandma turned me loose with the minimum of supervision; I've always made a Thanksgiving pumpkin pie from scratch. I've made pumpkin pies in my kitchens, in friends' kitchens, in borrowed kitchens, and in military dorm kitchens. But I've always made at least a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.

Yesterday, I bought a pumpkin pie at the supermarket deli. Embarrassing, don't you think? I did pick up a carton of heavy whipping cream and at least will make the whipped topping.

The Thanksgiving of my 52nd year. A day that will go down in infamy.

Happy Thanksgiving folks! Enjoy!

Wes is still in Little Rock at a Police school. He's actually in class today, too, but they're planning to go to a Japanese restaurant later for a "different" kind of Thanksgiving meal. Sounds like fun to me.
