I will never forget that day. I was in a chiropractor's office during my lunch break. When I came out, got in my car, and turned the radio on to the broadcast about his parade through Dallas, all of a sudden the reporter started shouting and saying, "The presidents been shot! The presidents been shot!" At first, I did not believe it and turned to some other radio stations, but kept hearing that the president had been shot. Even now, it is making me tear up. What a tragic day for the United States of America.

I hadn't been born.

I was home, and could not believe it. Watched it alot and during the funeral became very angry with my neighbor. She was not able to express emotion thru crying but she laughed alot and I made her go home. Now I realize that very few people to show this type of emotion. I really got angry with her for a long time.

Like eccentric, grade 8 Catholic School run by nuns, only mine was in New Hampshire.

I remember one of the Sisters coming in say those "damned Communists killed the President".

My cousin and I were sitting at my Aunt Garnet's kitchen table, eating lunch and watching t.v.

Probably taking a nap..I wasn't quite a year old. I know it put my Aunt into labor, she had my cousin 50 years ago today.

I was 4 and a half... I must have been at a neighbor's house and saw it on television (my parents never had the tv on during the day). I remember going home and telling my mother... I don't think I really understood what had happened, but I knew it was something serious.

I was a sophomore in High School and in Spanish Class...School was dismissed for the rest of the day. Everyone was stunned and
crying...sad day in History..

I also was in high school 10th grade English class....just like Marilyn C.

i was just 18, and working at my first job.

Sitting at my keypunch machine at Reliance Ins. in center city Philadelphia.
One of the computer operators ran in from the computer room, and just yelled that the President got shot, and is dead.

Approximately 80 noisy card punch machines stopped at once.

The phone rang in our manger's office, and she then came out and said the offices were closing immediately.

We all packed up for the day, and left.

The elevators were packed, as were the bus stops....the city just shut down.
People were crying, as we waited and then loaded the buses for home.

I was a first year teacher in a small high school in a semi rural Illinois town. One of my students was hall monitor, and he came to ask me if it was true that the President had been shot. Of course, I didnâÂÂt know. He said he had just escorted a salesman to the office, and that he had given him the news.

The class I was supervising that period was study hall, so I asked if anyone had a radio, which were forbidden at school. They hesitated, and then someone raised his hand and said he did. I asked him to turn it on and see if he could find a news bulletin and then explained to the class that I had been told that the President was shot as a news bulletin was located. We sat there listening, no one spoke. As far as we knew, JFK was still alive. We did not know how badly he was hurt, and the news reports did not have that information either.

The bell rang, and I headed off to teach my speech class. An hour or so later, the principal came on the PA to announce that the President had been killed. That was the first news shared with the students and staff over the PA.

That night was to be the first night of the school play. I was the teacher in charge of it. All sorts of events and meetings were being cancelled everywhere. By then lists of cancellations were being read on the continuous radio and TV news feeds. I met with the principal after school to discuss if we should cancel our play. There was no good alternative date. Finally, he decided that we would go ahead with our plans, but we would start with a student led moment of silence for the President.

The school auditorium/gym was filled that night. Everyone came to see our kids on stage and get some relief from the hours of TV news and grief and shock.

My older sister who lived in another state told me later that week that she and her kids had sat for four days in front of the TV. I did not have a TV, but my boyfriend did, so we watched a little of the continuous news reports. I donâÂÂt know how anyone could watch 4 days of it. It was so sad, so gripping.

At that time, the news was on the air only twice a day. The only TV news were the 30 minute evening news and the 10pm news. (We also had the farm report at noon.) This was a first--non stop news reporting on all the networks.

I was in the University of Chicago Hospital having some strange x-rays checked (turned out okay). Several of us were sitting in the waiting room waiting for our appointments. The receptionist was on the phone and suddenly she wailed,"I always said I'd leave the country if LBJ became president!" We all looked up sharply, and she said, "President Kennedy's been shot in Dallas..." Spent a very long time in the examining room and finally a doc came in and said that JFK had died. I remember every detail of that day, what I wore, whom I saw, how I ran into my mom on the El train going home, and the days following with the television on non-stop.

I was in 5th grade when we were told that the president had been killed. I remember some boy said some smart ass remark and boy did the teacher chew him out.

I was 3. But I can remember standing in front of our black and white tv watching the funeral procession.

I had just got out of the Dr's office from my first prenatal visit for my firstborn and heard the news when passing by a store that had on a TV.

Was teaching high school English class when the announcement came over intercom and school was dismissed.

A student sitting in the corner of the room, crossed himself.

I'll never forget that.

In 12th grade Physics class. Still16 yrs old. Will never forget it. The girl next to me broke out in tears, then I started to cry too.

in 11th grade, art class.....unforgettable.

I was stationed on a radar site high on a mountain on the west coast of Alaska. If i remember correctly we went on alert for over a week after the tradgedy.

I was in school, they announced it over the intercom. The teacher started crying. Many of us joined her. They let everyone out of school to be with our family. I was young but I certainly remember it.

I was in 5th grade in a Catholic school, when the Mother Superior came in and told our class that the President had been shot. We all got on our knees to say prayers for him.
She later came back in and told us he had died. I remember feeling so sad & seeing so many people crying.
I also remember watching the funeral procession in black & white. Seeing the horse without it's commander & just his boots always stuck in my mind.

We lived in the same area then as I live now. Our children were about 12 and 16 years old.

My DH taught school, our DS was a student in that school; I was a "Lunchlady" there and DD was in High school.

We were just finishing up in the lunch room. The school secretary came in and told us about the shooting. Complete shock!

I remember going home, getting in the shower, and crying my heart out.

We had planned a trip for that day to leave right after school was out for the day, to go to DC to visit relatives. We debated about the wisdom in doing that, but we went on. It was a most solemn trip.

We did see the parade, and even though the streets were thronged, it was strangely quiet. But that whole thing is a blur in my memory now, except for the riderless horse with the boots turned backwards.

I was in 1st grade, Catholic school. It was lunch time, I was playing with classmates and all of a sudden I heard screaming and sobbing from upper grade students that the president had been shot and killed. We continued playing, obvioulsy not understanding the magnitude of the situation. What I remember most is seeing the nuns cry, it made me look at them in a different light.

Ex H was an AF pilot stationed in England. We were on a trip to Switzerland to visit family, staying in Germany that night in Weisbaden. We were having dinner at the Officers Club, the Von Steuben, having beef Wellington, when one of the waiters stopped to tell me that our President had been shot. There was quite a bit of anti-American feeling in Europe then, and I just figured he was trying to make trouble. Then, we saw people walking in with transistor radios (remember them?) and then knew that something was not right. An announcement was made and we finished dinner, they closed the bar, and funereal music was played on the intercom.

The next day, we tried in vain to find an English newspaper. We drove on to Switzerland and were staying with a friend. Listening to the radio in German, we relied on our friend's sketchy translations. Jack Ruby shot - all of this in (Swiss) German. Going into town the following day, the people were so very sympathetic - treated us as if we had lost a family member. Our friend had no TV.

When Bobby was assassinated, we were back in the states and glued to the TV for the entire time.

I was a farm wife, so was home when the news came that Kennedy was shot, and had died. It was just so unbelievable. I will never forget how very silent it was when my six kids got off the bus.....they were all just so very quiet.

I was in the sixth grade in a one room country school. Our teacher told us the president had been shot. I remember feeling really sad because we were Catholic and he was the first Catholic president. One of the other kids kind of smiled when she told us, but at that time Catholics and Lutherans didn't associate much with each other and he was Lutheran

Not even a twinkle yet..

I was at home in CA, eating breakfast and listening to the radio. My mom and I turned on the TV. A short while later my dad and one of his friends came home and a next door neighbor came over. We watched TV most of the time for the next 4 days. Nothing else to watch on TV but the funeral, all sports games were cancelled. I think even the movie houses closed. It was such a sad time.

9th grade. I don't recall which class we were in when it was announced. I do remember how quiet everyone became, and that we did not have to dress out for PE that afternoon.

Just starting 8th grade, 13 years old.

Our principal announced on the PA system that the president had been shot. At lunch time, he announced that Kennedy had died.

I was partway through my sandwich, but felt so overwhelmed with emotion I threw the rest of my lunch in the trash can.

When we went to our afternoon classes, I saw teachers and students either in a daze (like me) or crying their hearts out.

Horrible. Just horrible.

I was in first grade.

I remember sitting in the lunch room, at the lunch tables, and they had a tv on one of those tall rolling stands they used.

I didn't really understand what was going on, just that it was important and sad.

I was working in a small two MD doc's office and a patient came in and told us.
Our office closed and we all went home.
It was a very sad time.

Junior High study hall. The room had one whole side totally open to the hallway. Saw a teacher come by and she was just SOBBING. Don't remember which one it was, but in a few minutes someone else came by crying. Then a monitor came in and handed the SH teacher the note that he read to the class. There was just total stunned silence.

I was in 6th grade, the teacher told us that President Kennedy had been shot...at first, I thought he was kidding. Spent the next few days in front of the TV watching the coverage and the funeral.
Very sad.

Think, if I remember correctly, the USA stood still and nothing on tv but coverage of his death and funeral.

Saddest moment I will never forget.

I will remember that day the rest of my life. I watched the Brokaw special tonight and cried thru that.

I was feeding my baby when the phone rang and my friend said turn on the TV. I saw Walter Cronkite say the news, and I sat for four straight days in front of our black and white TV. I loved the Camelot years and still wonder what this country would have been like had he not been killed by that worthless little weasel.

I was eleven and in sixth grade, home from school with a cold. I was lying on the living room couch watching TV when Walter Cronkite came on saying The President has been shot. Mom came running over and we watched TV together for hours. It was a sad, quiet weekend. School was closed Monday for the funeral. My youngest sister was in kindergarten and has the same memories, a hushed weekend. I'll never forget

I was a very young wife with 3 children and my husband called and said "turn on the tv" I was stunned and horrified. We knew the Kennedy's as my Nana was a good friend of Rose Kennedy and I remember a party Nana hosted for John when he was a young politician and I thought he was so handsome. I was small then. We went to his rallys right up to the presidency so it felt like a family member was killed. I was glued to the t.v. and on the phone with my family, thinking back now I wonder how it affected my kids seeing me crying so much. I'll have to ask them. As you know, the Kennedy's suffered so many losses, each one hurt.

My husband and I had just finished lunch and I had turned the TV on to watch Mike Douglas when they came on with the announcement..Hubby worked afternoons and when he got to his office, most of his people had reported off and they closed the plant...We spent the next sad, sad days glued to that TV....Hubby even wanted to drive to DC to be with those who passed by the coffin...We did take a trip to DC the following summer and stopped at Arlington.....All those terrible memories are as fresh today as they were back 50 years ago...We do have to wonder what it would have been like had he lived.....It's memories like that and of 9-11 that remain forever......

I was at home in Kittery maine,had just put our 3 boys down for their naps and settled in on the couch to fold laundry and watch as the world turns.Walter Cronkite came on and said" the presidents been shot"!!

The rest of the next few days we were like zombies,just going thru the motions of life with our eyes glued to the tv.

They shut down the base and sent all the guys home.I don't think there was a dry eye anywhere for days to come.

My oldest ds told me the other day,"mom that was the first time I ever saw you cry".

Will never forget that day,like several others,but that day had the most impact on us.Hope I never have to go thru that ever again!1

Sue and I had returned that summer from our mission work in (South) Korea, substantially helping refugees get resettled following the Korean "Police Action" ... and there's still been no peace, 60 years later. Our son was about 20 months, with rather light, fine hair, and the shop girls in Tokyo were entranced by him.

We'd settled in our mission-owned apt. in Toronto and Sue and son had gone to Iowa to visit her family from Sept. till Nov., then I travelled to many cities, towns and villages in Saskatchewan, talking to church groups, schools, service clubs, etc. telling of what had been going on out there.

During that fall I'd married my brother ... and in early October spent Thanksgiving with them to celebrate their 50th anniversary.

Just after mid November, I'd done some business in Regina and, in the first snowfall of the year, started out for Iowa to prick up Sue and Bruce. At around supper time, when I stopped at a convenience store in a village, their TV was on, telling of meetings of important U.S. government agencies holding emergency meetings, etc. and I asked what was going on ... when they told me that President Kennedy had been shot and killed ... I reacted with disbelief.

I don't recall any unusual experiences while dealing with people on the trip down to Iowa, but was at Sue's Mom's home in Ankeny to view the funeral with them. It was a time of great sadness.

One year after the day of President Kennedy's death ... our daughter was born, in Muskoka, a vacation area north of Toronto where I was working temporarily as clergyperson in several churches, while son was being treated for complications with his sight.

We need people of vision to challenge us to great things, in our time: the world's need is massive.

I was in 6th grade in a small school in a small town about 60 miles from Dallas.

Our teacher went into the hall at the beckoning of another teacher;
they conversed for a moment, & then Miss Smith closed the door.

The class erupted!
That door was *never* closed, was absolutely forbidden to be closed!

When Miss Smith returned, she was too overcome to speak;
she went to the blackboard & put her left hand behind her back, the way they had taught her in school, & she wrote on the board,
"Our President has been shot."

The class gasped like one large, shocked person.

Miss Smith sat down & put her head in her hands.

After a moment, she returned to the blackboard & wrote,
"Also our governor."

When she had recovered a little, she spoke to us.
Her face was drained & haggard, & she said,
"Do you see how terrible this is for Texas?
Our President was shot in Texas,
& our new President is from Texas."
