Working in Miami and crosing the parking lot on the way back from lunch. Someone said the Pres was shot and we didn't believe him

I will certainly never forget where I was on that day. I was standing on the corner of Elm and Akard Street in downtown Dallas, watching as the President's limo went down Elm Street. As the motorcade passed, there was a great cheer from the crowd around me and the roar of the motorcycle escorts as they passed by. I could barely see the top of the President's head and just a quick flash of Jackie's pink dress. Less than five minutes later, the motorcade arrived at the School Book Depository. I knew nothing about what happened until I arrived back at my office at Reserve Life Insurance Company. When I walked into the building people we standing around crying and were in a complete state of shock that this tragedy had happened.

I was in English Class. Couldn't believe it had really happened.

I was in school..6th grade. Someone came and called the teacher out in the hall. She came back in, looked at us and said "Students..our President has been killed"! It was awful!!

I was 9 years old, living in a third floor apartment (in Germany) with cold running water and loo downstairs outside.

We were about to move in to a brand new house.

Actually, all I remember the commentator on the radio talking about it.

I was a year old, so no idea.

It was my first year of teaching and I was in the study hall where I supervised for one hour a day. The student hall monitor, who knew me, came in to ask if what the salesman he had escorted to the office said was true. He told me that he'd been told Kennedy had been shot. I asked if anyone had a radio with them. Transistor radios were not allowed in school, but since I insisted we needed one, one student admitted he had one. I told him to turn it on loud and find a news bulletin. That's when we knew. The kids were stunned and listened to every word from the radio.

I was living in a tiny duplex on a RAF base in Scotland...I couldn't believe my eyes and ears so went next door for my neighbor (no tv there) to come see. Don't know that I have ever cried so much. Nanny

Well I wasn't born yet.

I was a senior in high school when the Challenger Exploded. I was actually home from school that day watching tv. The launch wasn't televised, but I was watching a news related show that was talking about the significance of that launch. I'll never forget the confused expressions on the faces of the family members. It was so sad.

I was a high school freshman, I remember it like it was yesterday. We were so young, yet so many things were happening that year.
I also remember all the senior boys were all worried about the war in Vietnam. A time of our lives none of us will ever forget.

I was 21 yrs old and working as a secretary at Camp Peary
(an AFETA base) near Wmsbrg, VA. One of our inspectors heard it on his radio and came in the office and told me.

We were living on my in-laws farm in the country.I was 9 months pregnant with my second daughter and alone with my 3 year old daughter.DH was working in town 12 miles away.I heard it on TV and couldn't believe it.We were on a party line with 4 other people and the phone kept ringing and ringing for them.LOL

I was the office secretary in the Trust Department of a bank. Our office was on the mezzanine floor & quite separate from the bank itself so we weren't yet aware of the commotion going on downstairs when the shooting news hit.

Then the guy at the desk next to me got a telephone call from his wife. She was obviously telling him that someone had been shot. Since I knew this guy had several friends on the San Francisco police force, I just assumed that they were talking about a policeman.

I remember he hung up the phone, got totally quiet like in a daze for several minutes, then announced to our small office staff that President Kennedy had just been shot in Dallas.

To this day, whenever the JFK death gets mentioned, I always think of that guy & wonder where he is today---that tie-in with him in my memory of that morning is still that strong.

I was in school and my teacher turned on the t.v. and we watched all the news. I was 8th grade.

I was in elementary school. The intercom came on suddenly, just blasting. They had the radio on and were broadcasting the news coverage. School of course went on, had lunch, back to class and went home afterward. Don't remember what happened when I got home but I do remember watching the funeral coverage on TV.

I was a freshman in high school, in class, when an announcement was made over the PA system that the President had been shot.

I was 13, and was sitting at my aunt's kitchen table, watching t.v. with my cousin.

In 8th grade Civics class when there was a knock on the door, and the least-liked teacher in the school turned around, announcing (with a smile), "We have a new president."

I was a freshman in HS and my Mom came to pick me up because I was ill. When she told our principal what had happened no one believed her at first. The office staff hunted for a radio and finally found it. They announced the shooting over the loud speaker and since this was a Catholic School they did what they normally do in a time of crisis - the entire student body sat in their seats and began reciting the rosary. I went home with my Mom and we sat in front of the TV.

I was taking a potty break during my favorite soap oprea "As the World Turns" when I heard Walter Cronkite's voice on the tv downstairs breaking the news that the president had been shot.

I was working in center city Phila. as a computer operator. We always had a radio on, and heard the news on the radio. We were all stunned. Seems like all the companies, like where I worked, in center city closed immediately and employees go home, the bus stops and subways were jammed with people...many crying.

I was 4 years old, and just have fuzzy memories of "something wrong". But even now reading most of these responses my eyes well up with tears. What a terrible time that must have been! As I became a little older, I clearly remember all the news coverage of Vietnam. I remember I hated hearing what was going on, wished I didn't have to listen to the news when my parents had it on. Then all the student protests and bombings--it was a dreadful time to be growing up in America I think

I too was in grade school, I was 10. I remember walking outside to recess and the teachers gathered together, many crying.

I was working from home on the telephone and I kept hearing all the news in the back ground and finally someone told me. I had 3 children at the time.

Wasn't born yet so don't remember. But it's amazing that someone from this board was there that day.

I was sitting in 11th grade Geography class.

JFK was buried on my 16th birthday.

I was in the kitchen washing up lunch dishes, had the tv on in the other room when they broke in to tell the news. Our tv wasn't turned off much until after the funeral was over. The image of his toddler son saluting that day will always live in my memory.

I was in sixth grade, at home with pneumonia, watching TV. An announcement came on the President had been shot, my Mom came running in from the kitchen and we watched Walter Kronkite together. He was the one who told us JFK had died. The rest of the weekend was a blur, Lee Harvey Oswald arrested and shot, a terrible time for all.

I was in Junior High. I remember everyone crying.

I had just turned 6 and living in England...I do remember my mom being upset by something but not able to understand it all. We didn't have tv at the time.

I was a sophomore in high school and was in business class when the principal came across the intercom and told us. We listened on the radio of the news. So sad.....

At home doing my ironing. I picked up the phone, the party line was being used. I told them what had happened and asked them to hang up. I called my Mom and told her. Very sad. It was nice to have a young family in the white house and I believe he actually cared for us all.

I was in junior high school. We lived near a Naval Base just about 45 minutes from Washington, DC. The base was an explosive ordinace base. They basically closed the base to all non essential personel and the schools were closed too. We stayed home for about 3 days and stayed glued to the TV the whole time.

After my second term as a missionary in the Republic of Korea, my ex- and I and our son had returned to Canada and the U.S. on furlough, Sue and son had gone to Ankeny, Iowa to spend a couple of months with her mother and dad, and I had been travelling around Saskatchewan from church to church, some social agencies, schools, etc., telling of the difficulties in the post-war period, including helping some of hundreds of thousands of refugees get their lives restarted in an impoverished country after leaving their former lives with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

I'd spent a few days with family (and I'd married my brother, earlier that fall) and it was startig to snow in Saskatchewan as I started south to pick up Sue and son. A few miles south of Regina, the capital, I stopped in to a convenience store for something and the radio was telling of unusual meetings of various high-level U.S. government agencies ...

... and when I asked what was going on and was told that President Kennedy had been shot, my reaction was, "Get out - you've got to be fooling!".

I arrived in Ankeny in time to watch the funeral on Sue's Mom's TV, with the three of them. It was an incredible time.

Then we travelled to Toronto, where we spent the winter.

English class. I know every girl in class was crying, and probably the boys, too. At first they announced he'd been shot. The the principal announced that he'd died.He was crying as he announced it.

I was 21 and was at my parent' house that day. I was sitting at their dining room table listening to music on the radio. When I heard the news, I opened the window and yelled to my mom who was in the garage doing laundry. She came running in and we turned on the TV. When my dad came home a short while later, a neighbor came over and the 4 of us sat glued to the TV. I remember Walter Cronkite being on the TV for hours and hours. For the next 3 days all radio stations played nothing but funeral music. All TV stations just broadcasted things pertaining to the assassination and the funeral. It was a very sad time. I cried and cried.

I was in Miss Smith's 6th grade class;
another teacher beckoned her into the hall, & she closed the classroom door behind her.

She was so distraught that she couldn't tell us;
she put her left hand behind her back like they used to teach everyone, & wrote it on the chalkboard.

Then she sat down at her desk & put her head in her hands.

We watched Walter Cronkite announce the President's death.

To this day, if I see someone on tv take off his glasses, I think, "please don't look at that clock, please don't say anything catastrophic."

Ex DH and I were vacationing from RAF Bentwaters, having dinner at the Von Steuben hotel in Weisbaden, Germany (Officers Club), on our way to Switzerland. As I recall, there had been some tense relations between the US and Germany, so when our waiter told us that our President had been shot, we thought he was trying to make trouble. Then we saw someone else with a transistor radio and realized that it was true. In shock, we just sat in the lounge listening to funereal music.

We traveled to Switzerland the next day and spent the next couple of weeks with NO English newspapers. We were staying with a Swiss German friend and were glued to the radio, where she tranlated for us, even when Oswald was shot. We were so glad to get back to England and have access to English speaking newspapers and TV. To this day, I regret missing "That Was the Week That Was" with David Frost. It is a classic.

It seems odd that I don't remember. I would have been 8. I do remember seeing bits and pieces on the news on TV, although we didn't watch a lot of TV. I would have been in third grade and attended a one-room country school. We might not have had a telephone there and it's possible I didn't hear about it until sometime later that night.

I was in the fourth grade. We were at lunch when we heard. I remember watching the funeral procession. I also saw the live feed when Jack Ruby was shot.

In school,they left us out early,going out the door I said why are we getting out,an older boy said the president died.I was in like 4th grade

I meant to say I saw Jack Ruby Shoot Oswald.

I was feeding my infant daughter while watching 'As The World Turns'..when the sad news came over the air.

I was 20 with a 5 week old daughter. I was home with her and wishing I had a phone...I so wanted to call my Mom in Texas. We were living in northern California then.
