Watched the 1960 film last night with Robert Mitchum, George Peppard, George Hamilton and Eleanor Parker. I had seen it before, but it had been years. I am a BIG Robert Mitchum fan. Always have been! He played the most appealing bad guys in the world! LOL

What old movies have you seen lately that you really enjoyed? Name some actors/actresses in them, too, if you would. I'm looking for some new/old movies to get from Netflix.

Haven't seen them lately but Backstreet and Imitation Of Life were 2 old ones I loved.

Hi Ginny: The Hanalei Bay Plantation has been absorbed into a planned community known as Princeville. The mid-range Hanalei Bay Resort and the 5-star Princeville Hotel are there now. There are smaller condos for rent scattered throughout the area. The Princeville Hotel now occupies the spot where they filmed the scenes I described above. The beach itself is still relatively the same and the town Of Hanalei, with the exception of the odd sushi bar or two, seems stuck in a time warp. Last time I was there was Summer 2001. Marie reminds me you can do it yourself. You need a capture card in the computer. They're available in all price ranges and come with either analog or DV inputs or both. Most have software with them to do editing. With the software, you can add special effects, transitions between scenes, and ability to manipulate the footage. Even if it doesn't come with software, you do at least have Windows Movie Maker on the computer that will do fine for you. If by chance you're running Windows 98, you cannot do it. 98 can't handle the frame rates or the large files that video creates, and they are EXTREEEEMELY large. 98 also cannot manage more than 512mg of memory, so that makes it more than difficult to render to DVD. If you're running Window XP, you won't have a problem, but you have to make sure you have enough system resources. You need a hard drive with enough storage space and enough free space to accommodate these large files. You need at least 1gig memory and at least P3 (or equivalent) processor if not faster. Rendering takes forever, so try not to do any more than two hours at a time. One hour - 90 minutes might be best. If it doesn't render well or hangs up, you'll know you have to cut it down to less than one hour and just put the rest on a separate DVD. It's really very easy to do, or one of your children might like to get into it since it's hard to trust someone with your memories. Buying a capture card and even if upgrading the computer is necessary, it still won't cost nearly as much as paying a business to do it for you. It's a very time consuming process, so understandably they will charge for that. For example, rendering just one can take 8-12 hours depending on how long it is. I usually just let them render over night. You'd absorb the cost in the first one or two that you do though.

Hi Jacko, Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. To help you out on your questions: 1) Having your cold air supply vents by the windows will help and it is recommended, but vents can be put in other locations. However you have 10' ceilings so I would recommend vents by the windows . It is an old house, and you may have historic rules on modifying the looks of your home, so will you be allowed to fur your ceiling down a liitle which could help for new ducts, electrical, cable, and comunication wiring.( if you have to have it. 2)Centered based vents need to have a register that is designed for that special throw of air. 3) Your basement will need return and supply air in it. As far as how many, you will need a load calc done to tell that, it will tell what each room wil need for your new ac system.I have attached a link for you to look at below. 4) Whole house fans are logical for air circulation during mild temperature days. But I don't recommend them for indoor air quality. The attic fan can help remove heat from your attic, but it can shorten the life of yor roof shingles. 5) Values of homes are different due to the area you live in. DC is high, so talk with your realtors around that area. DS ordered it from Amazon for me so I could watch it again. It isn't here yet. I think it is Robert Duvall's best work black and white..

DH has been renting Edward G Robinson movies...he never appealed to me...

I've added Backstreet and gonna see if "Tomorrow" is on netflix list...they both sound great...

as always...any Cary Grant movies will make ya smile YA YA...you just can't go wrong with him..."People Will Talk" is my favorite movie of his...it's what made me go ga ga over him!!

"Purgatory"
A great cast heads this production which originally aired on cable's TNT. Wild Bill Hickok, Doc Holliday, Jesse James, Billy the Kid, and other dead western legends are brought together in a mysterious town and given a last chance to undo their violent pasts.
Starring: Sam Shepard, Eric Roberts, Peter Stormare, Brad Rowe, Donnie Wahlberg This is a great movie I taped the original showing of it but it should be available for rent.

"Crossing Delancey" Amy Irving is a single Jewish woman working at an upscale bookstore on the Upper West Side of New York. As much as she longs to be a part of the intellectual literary scene, she is tethered to her roots on the Lower East Side, where her old-fashioned grandmother is forever trying to fix her up
This is a gentle romantic comedy. A delightful performance by Reizl Bozyk as her "Bubbie"

This is really a delightful version. You'll fall in love with all the characters.
BTW the original 1935 version will be playing on Turner Clasics TCM on 11:45 pm CST 11-30 tomorrow night. I haven't seen this version and I'm taping it.

Any old Greer Garson Movie - but particularly
Mrs Miniver - WWII in Britain with Walter Pidgeon (playing her husband) quite the proganda movie in it's time.

Random Harvest - with Ronald Coleman (who plays an amnesia victim who falls in love with Greer)

both are a bit schmaltzy and dated but I love these old movies!

We just saw "Morning Becomes Electra" with Rosalind Russell. What a great movie!

My all time favorite is "Backstreet" with Susan Hayward, but I also like the Lana Turner movies like "Imitation of Life."

Those all sound great. My eyes feel warm and my throat is getting sore, and if this cold keeps on track I wanna stay home tomorrow and curl up on the couch and watch some good old movies just like those :-)

I stayed home Sunday and watched a whole bunch of old movies I had picked up on DVD the last few years.

This is the Army - Ronald Reagan, Irving Berlin, Joe Louis and a bunch of other old time stars. The production numbers were plentiful and great fun to watch. This was a 1943 movie and in one scene in the movie the men were standing around Regean who had just read a wire to say they would be giving a "command performance" in Washington and one of the guys said "we will be performing for the boss, the Commander in Chief" LOL Little did they know they were standing next to a future President. I loved this movie!

Then I watched Kelly's Heroes another favourite movie of mine. Donald Sutherland makes me laugh in this as does Gavin McCleod. My Dad took us to the drive-in to see this movie.

I also Little Princess with Shirley Temple - another favourite movie.

I also watched Angel and the Badman with John Wayne and Gail Russel. I had never seen this movie before.

So after I spent the day watching all these movies my SIL calls to invite me over for a bbq'd hamburger so I had to take a shower. We ate dinner then went downstairs and watched James Bond's Goldfinger. I hadn't seen this movie in years and really enjoyed it again. My brother said when he first saw the movie it was the first time he had seen a Ford Mustang and how they all wanted one after watching the movie.

The next movie I am going to watch is 9to5. I never get tired of watching this movie. LOL

I just finished " a boy named Charlie Brown ". YaYa I have been watching old movies too. Love them. There aren't many new ones that hold my interest as well. :)

My all time favorite movie is The Long Gray Line. It is about West Point and has Maureen O'Hara, Betsy Palmer, Tyrone Power, Ward Bond and a bunch of other great actors in it. A real tear jerker. I first saw it in high school and have watched it many times over the years.
