Printer-Computer question

A very nice lady has donated two Lexmark printers to the center.

Both are color!

One is a scanner/printer/copier.

The other is a printer only.

How do I go about connecting the printer so two computers can use it?

Our patron computers are both Dell.

You might try asking at Computer help. I'm guessing you received the installation Disks also....

I've also read read where the cartridges might be quite expensive...so you may want to check/ask about that too, if need be b4 going to too much time/trouble.

Possibly they are ones though that are refillable at Walgreens.

"As soon as Windows 7 is installed, it creates a default HomeGroup. If it detects an existing HomeGroup, you will be given the opportunity to join, but you will need the password. As an interim solution, you can use free screen capture software that allows you to select all, or any part, of what you see on the screen, save it, and then print it exactly as you saw it. You don't say what your operating system is, but there are various choices depending on the OS. I use Microsoft's "Snipping Tool" that comes with Vista. Here are a lot of different options for you... Consider a laser printer - do you really need colour? Much cheaper to run, and the cartridges don't dry out, which can happen before you've used up the ink. It might be worth considering something like a laser all in one, plus a separate one for colour, if you really need it. Brand wise, I love my samsung laser, it's just a printer but it works great, the drivers are good and it's good to use. I also have an hp all in one Officejet 7200. Hardware, good, but it did crap out under warranty, software in theory great (will allow you to scan direct to pdf if you're using a mac) but in practice, lots and lots of problems with hp drivers and the software, in my experience anyway, and this is my second hp AIO.

call your telephone people or internet server. They can walk you through it. Our phone company will send out their telephone guy and he'll help you. It is most likly an easy fix. Our server has a program that I use. The only mail I get is people I have on my "allways allow list" Otherwise it all goes into my "spam" folder. Then I check it for other email I want or just delete it. not sure if I explained it verywell but I'd first call your telephone co.

Lexmark ink is very expensive. A combo pack just delivered from office supply co was 59.00 (ouch)

Printer ink IS expensive, but when I had a Dell All in One the only place you could get it was from Dell (think that's changed now, but no clue as to cost) and it was $80. for color & black! Whew!

If not then is there a way for you to plug both computers to the same printer at the same time?

We will have to connect the two with the wireless router.
I THINK I know what to do but won't know for sure until I get to work.

Yes, we have our printers connected via wireless router. You also have to "add" each printer to each PC, through the control page, and specify the conection type as "look for a wireless printer".

You might call your local high school and recruit a computer-savvy student.

I don't know what your "center" is, but students in some schools need volunteer hours to graduate, so if you're some kind of non-profit, that would be an additional incentive.
