Re: Blue Screen (of death) and HP printers. I have an HP Photosmart 3210 XI All-In-One and it has a glitch with one application. It works with everything else I have. An updated driver did not help, and my queriers were ignored by both HP and MicroSoft. I have discovered a work-a-around. The Problem: Windows XP Office 2000 - buried within Office 2000 is a scaled down version of MicroSoft Photo Editor. The features that it has works very well. If I bring an image into the photo editor and attempt to print it, XP complains of an illegal operation and shuts down the photo editor. The Work-a-Around: After the computer has booted and before attempting to print an image from the photo editor, re-install the printer, or install it as another printer and delete the original install. This can be before starting the photo editor or after an image has been loaded into it. To install: Go to the "control Panel", click, or double click depending on how your computer is set up, on hte "add printer" icon. Follow the instructions in the connection wizard making sure that you choose the port that your printer is connected to. After "finish" of the install, a new printer icon will appear in the printers windows and the newly installed printer will have a check mark indicating it s the default printer. Right click on the old printer icon and delete it. (You probably don't need to uninstall the unused printer connection. I do it to conserve resources.) Close the windows and you are ready to print until the computer is rebooted again. As a bonus, the intall-printer untiltiy will remember all your replies except for the connection port making it short work to reinstall the next time. Strangely enough, this is the only application I have that exhibits this problem. All others work fine including an ancient version of NetScape.

I think the back to front or front to back is not the problem. I wouldn't care what prints first since I don't do much text printing.........The problem is HOW to not print the sample label in PayPal. I had to buy 2 shipping labels today. It did it again, twice, including that 3rd print page with the upper instructions on how to print the label. I've looked through the options, but it is not going to tell me how not to do Sample label printing. I removed the printer and added it again and it works great only it didn't solve the label problem. I have also googled for a fix, but no one seems to have run into this problem. I have had this printer for a long time. I bought it with my XP and now I have W 7. AM I READY FOR A NEW ONE?

It sure does sound like a feed problem. As I recall from the last time I opened up a printer, there are two types of roller. I will call them guide and feed. The feed rollers are the ones than develop traction with the paper to move it. If you can locate them, and they are rubber they can be cleaned with denatured alcohol. Being "mechanically inclined" I wouldn't hesitate to dismantle the printer as much as needed. As you reported a basic replacement is cheap. A month or so a go I purchased a HP C4680 AIO from HP delivered for $79.00 plus tax. It replaced a HP F380 AIO. DA

(The printer originally went through a parallel port; had to get a "conversion" plug to connect to USB on this computer.) "sounds like something in the printer is dead or a bad contact." -- That's what I figured. But I wanted opinions from this forum because I've received help here previously.
