Stacy, I have had two portable HP's and if this one died right now, I'd go right out and buy another one. I have the HP Photosmart 475 and they have it at Amazon for under $70 (+ shipping). I have had one Epson photo printer, and while it produced beautiful prints (not any nicer though than my HP) if I didn't use it at least every few days, the heads would clog up and I'd have to use up half my ink to get it cleared out enough to print again. I've heard the same complaints about the portable Epson photo printer.

I'm actually buying my daughter the HP 475 like mine for Christmas. It comes with a hard drive that you can download your pictures to and you can put all sorts of cute borders, etc. on the picture. There is an upgrade to this one (HP Photosmart A626) but it's quite a bit more than the HP 475.

I will also say that whatever printer you buy, I've found that you should always use that brand's ink and paper for the best prints. I've tried generic - I've printed the exact same picture using generic toner vs. my HP toner and there's a huge difference. Same with the paper - I tried using Kodak paper one time and it looked awful. Another reason I'm partial to HP is because they have a beautiful matte paper - it's called "soft gloss" but is really a very nice matte - I do not like glossy photo paper at all, and Epson's "matte paper" is nothing more than heavy cardstock. I buy my paper at Office Max and about once a month, they'll run it buy one get one free - Staples runs it too.
