I totally agree with you!! It really bugged me last year when Oprah was soooooo amazed that this woman was having a baby. HELLO Oprah, no miracle here, she's a woman, not a man. She removed her breasts and took hormones, but kept her reproductive organs. This couple will be interviewed by Barbara Walters tomorrow night, I hope she doesn't act as foolish as Oprah did. Does the media think we are that stupid?

My take on a situation like this is to look on the bright side, any child born of "different" parents is bound to grow up with a better understanding of diversity and tolerance, something the world could certainly use more of.

Just because you're not what society considers "normal" doesn't make you a bad, indifferent or unloving parent or person.

I agree....too much ado about nothing! She is still a she! I'm happy for her that she can have another baby if that is what she wants.I don't know why it would be disgusting.I just don't think such a big deal should be made of it or that it is touted as,"Man has baby"!

Discovery Health is airing a special Monday night about HER.
She wanted to be a man but I guess not totally or she would not have left anything of her female parts.
Maybe he/she thinks this is the best of both worlds.

Apparently, this person is "legally a man." I would love to know which Judge signed an order declaring her to be a man. By her own admission, she didn't want to undergo a hysterectomy because she knew that she "wanted to have children someday." And I think she came to that conclusion before she met and married her "wife."

And now she has said that after the birth of her daughter, she deliberately did not start taking testosterone again, as she should have.

I made the statement before in the original thread during her first pregnancy, and I'll say it again -- a true transgender would never want to keep the reproductive organs of their birth sex - for any reason. A true transgender male who had been born female would never want to keep a uterus and be pregnant even once, much less twice.

I just don't know how in the heck this person can be declared "legally a male" while still having ovaries and a uterus and multiple pregnancies.

I think it's all a thoroughly planned out scheme for publicity and all the freebies that come along with it.

I see it as the media trying to muddy the waters even more.

I've always believed that children should have a voice in matters like this, because after all they are the ones that are directly affected. As parents we should do everything possible to protect them until they are old enought to fully understand and able to make the decision if they want their lives to be in the limelight of the media. And from all accounts, I think this couple will continue to put their children in the spotlight.

I know several transgendered people, and some of them choose to keep some of their original organs. A close friend and co-worker of mine is currently transitioning from a woman to a man. HE is currently on the full dose of testosterone and is saving up money for a double mastectomy. He has always felt like a man, despite being born a woman, and has never been happier since making the decision to transition. He has decided to keep some of his female organs because the surgery is so expensive and drastic, and if he were to have a penis created, it wouldn't work properly anyway. At least this way he can still have some sort of enjoyable sex life. I don't believe for one second that this choice makes him any less of a "true" transgendered person, or less deserving to be called a "HE" instead of a she, because he is living his life as a male, despite still having a uterus. Transgendered people live difficult lives and often have to choose between their own happiness or keeping loved ones in their lives who can't deal with it.

Him and his girlfriend are two of the kindest, most caring people I've ever met, and if they were to choose to have a child (regardless of what means it would take to get there), I can't imagine a child that would be more loved or better taken care of.

The media circus surrounding this particular case in ridiculous, but I don't think that warrants all the personal judgement placed on transgendered people by others who couldn't possibly understand.

I too know several transgender people who I have met through a family friend of ours who is a transgender. Some could not afford to have the complete surgery, but none of them desire to have a child because they identify as males.

Thomas stated on Oprah that the reason she kept her female reproductive organs was becasue she wanted to have a child, not because she couldn't afford to complete the surgery.

I totally agree that these are very loving and caring people, no one is arguing that point and I'm sure the children will be very loved, but THEY were the ones that first approached the media and are keeping themselves and now the children in the media circus. That is the ONLY point that bothers me.

I agree with you matti5. I dont have any doubts that this couple are loving parents and I dont even have a problem referring to him, simply speaking, as "he" but to put some big banner over him with flashing lights saying "man has baby" is ridiculous. He's not a man in that sense of the word.

The whole thing is a media circus and I think they're milking it. That's what I dont agree with. I have nothing whatsoever about transgender people.

I and a lot of other women had our breasts removed for breast cancer,But that didnn't change our gender and never will.

They've had their 15 minutes of fame so should just step back out of the limelight.

I stand by my statement.

A transgender who keeps the reproductive organs of their birth sex because the cost of surgery is prohibitive is entirely different than a transgender male who wants to keep the female reproductive organs because of the desire to someday be pregnant and give birth.

And a true transgender male wouldn't care as much whether or not a "created penis" would "work properly" or not -- they desire the appearance of a penis because looking like a man helps them more to feel like a man.

i'm totally on the fence on what i think of this guy and his pregnancies, and i haven't earned the right to cast stones.
i do however admire his courage to stand up and be heard. strange as it all may be - whether he's still a female because of some parts, his head takes over and he's a man. afterall, it's really all between your ears anyway.

although i have no firsthand knowledge of their life, they are putting themselves out there in an effort to pave the way for those that come after him. whether it be the same type of couple or just someone else that's a little different, so that they might not have to go through the same harrassment or shame people have imposed. in order words acceptance.

remember what a taboo miscegenation was. now, who really bats an eye at it? i guess this is just another phase of tolerance.

i'm sure they've sold their story here and there, but they aren't the only ones to do make a buck off their story. i do agree that there's way too much media hype.

Anyone who gets a sex change operation is still the sex they were at birth. You can remove a penis on a man, or the breasts on a woman, but you can't change the DNA. This woman who lives her life as a man, is having her second baby. According to the story, at least 35 other women who have had sex change operations have done the same thing. So why does this particular story garnish so much media? Because we want it. If we don't buy the magazines, talk about it on message boards or watch the tv specials, it all goes away. I don't believe these children will grow up screwed up. Millions of children grow up in screwed up families with a mother and a father who are the same sex they were born with, yet the child turns into a serial killer (Jeffery Dahmer ring a bell?). Then there are children who are raised by whacko parents who themselves turn out to be fantastic adults. We can't predict how this couples children will turn out. If they grow up all screwed up people will say, "I told you so!" If they grow up to be rocket scientists, people will say, "I told you so!" There's no winning, no losing Just some children who have two parents who love them very much and will do everything they can to raise their children the best way they know how. Just like you and I did. Right?

They are pretending he is a man. That is the problem. Not whether they are good to their children.

This judges signature doesn't mean much to me. It's his choice though and he made it legal.

One day people will be marrying horses and dogs. I really wonder how long it will take for me to "tolerate" that. Hasn't this topic partially been about being open minded? Not judging a persons right to make their own decisions? What about my decisions? ___ I apply the golden rule to everyone who would do the same for me, BUT being nice to everyone doesn't mean I have to agree with everything THEY stand for. I would expect the same. I will tolerate just about anything that doesn't affect me or my family, it doesn't mean I embrace the change or throw out what marrige means to me.

Money must be behind the whole thing. He/she has written one book, and I imagine, will do more. The first baby is not six months old and expecting another.

I caught part of last night's 20/20 program, only because the tuner was on ABC and when we finished watching a couple of programs that we'd recorded earlier in the week, 20/20 was on. So, I only saw maybe 20 minutes of the show. But, from what I saw, it didn't appear that either of the two have a job. So, it appears to me that although Barbara Walters made a point of saying that 20/20 was not paying the couple for their appearance on the program, they are seeking out publicity for the money.

They own a t-shirt printing business. I am assuming it is in their home, because last night on 20/20 they claimed they have not been able to leave their home in a year becasue of the media. I thought that was odd, because they are the ones that keep looking for media attention. Plus the Discovery Channel is doing a documentary about them, airing next week, and of course Thomas' book is out too.

The last time I saw a Bearded Woman was in a circus.

At first I thought they were joking when they said they bought the sperm on the internet. They also said they used a syringe from the pet store to get the deed done. I really didn't need to know that LOL I loved some of Barbara Walter's facial expressions during the interview...priceless!

Yes, the media will build anything up, but I think the couple also promoted it.
