look at your manual there is a place on the handle area that you can turn to open and let more air in so there is less suction for using it on that kind of carpet and some very thick rugs.
I have that happen on one of my thick rugs in the living room. The vacuum has such amazing suction it will just suck it self right to the rug.

I had to look around to find it on mine but I believe it is on the handle your manual has it listed and the customer service certainly should have mentioned that.

There is a setting for the amount of suction.... I don't recall where the setting is. I'll try to remember and look a little later.

I looked at mine, on the collar just below the hand hold is a ring called the suction release, it is labeled on mine and you turn it to get more or less suction it has the directions printed right on the machine at the suction release valve. Just look you will see it turn it while vacuuming till it feels right, don't forget to reset it for your other areas or you will think your vacuum isn't sucking up as well. And don't forget to take out the sponge filter below the removable dirt bin and clean it every few months.

Another question about the Shark pictured in the post above... when using the attachments do they go directly onto the white part below the red release button? I have this vacuum and am afraid the attachments are going to get stuck because they fit so tightly. I didn't get a manual so I'm not sure if I'm doing things right.

I've had my Shark for a couple of months and for the first time in my life I don't mind vacuuming. I love this product!!!! It's the best vac I've ever had.

Lydia, yes, that's where I attach mine if I want a 'short-handled' version. Or, if I want a 'long handled' version, I use the release button down at the bottom of that same part and put the attachment on there.

Matti, I so agree with you! I absolutely love this vacuum. It is so lightweight, goes anywhere, and does a great job. And THEN, it's even easy to empty! Love, love, love it!

Thank you very much for the prompt replies to my post! I'm afraid that I do not have any suction release for the shark I bought at Kohl's. If anyone has this type of vacuum and can help me, I would appreciate it.

I have the same issue with my Dyson, which Shark is a copy of. As Shark customer service has told you, there is nothing you can do about it. The only solution is a different vacuum cleaner.

Even opening the various valves in the Dyson does not help.

oh I thought you had the lift away pro model, I have no idea on that model I have never even seen one like that.
On mine which is the lift away pro the suction release works just as it should and makes it much easier to vacuum my thick rugs.
It is an absolutely wonderful vacuum I agree, I am so glad I did my research and decided on that one over any others on the market. I am so glad others that followed and got them also are happy with them.
