Kindle Readers... Penguin Pub. pulls ebooks from libraries

I was on the waiting list for "The Help", got the email to say that it was available so I went to my library online and now it's only available in Epub. Also, I was catching up on Sue Grafton's books, just finished with Q and R and went to go get S and now that is only available on Epub. Did some more researching and came across this article. It isn't just my library as I have another library card out of state and it's the same thing on their ebook website.

This news is annoying! I had been so looking forward to borrowing for Kindle. I have spent many hours trying to figure it out. My K is old so it does not have wifi, the easiest way to download. I have to us USB port to transfer to Kindle but I am stuck on Windows Player does not recognize .AZW When it gets to this stuff, I might as well be reading Greek!By the way, The Help is a great book. You will not want to put it down.

I don't know - I just went to my library and ordered a book and it was downloaded to my Kindle. Our library is also lending e-readers including Kindles loaded with a preset # of books.

well just seeing that today Overstock.com has the literati on for $99 and they have the cheap shipping. I read it is only an ereader nothing else, has the color LCD screen. yes we are both enjoying them, it is a good additional reader for me and is my husbands first. It is so light weight compared to my PDN it is very easy to hold. I have added some books on the SD card also. For $49 for us it was a worthwhile purchase. I do not know if they will re-run that sale price or not, I told a friend about it and he found a CVS with several he bought all of them to give as Christmas gifts.

wow sorry I had never seen that I was asked a question and never answered it. I bought my pandigital novel at bed bath and beyond they can be bought at many locations which are listed on their website including Radio Shack and Kohl's. Mine ran me right at $100 with their 20% off coupon and a rebate. The one I have is the 7" white tablet. It is a full android tablet now with their latest update so you can access apps from the android market, you can surf, email, play your music, watch videos, youtube etc, pretty much everything you can do on a laptop. If you are familiar with any of the android phones it is very similar. I thought if I was going to pay over a hundred dollars for something I wanted it to do as much as possible not just be an ereader which is why I went with this PDN. The ereader part is excellent also and since you can now use android apps you can use the kindle app to read kindle books and the nook app, lots of ereader apps are available so you can choose the one you like best gives you lots of flexibility. It of course does have wifi connectivity which works great. We have had several very long threads about the PDN and ereaders over on the computer help forum, you can search the topic there and find much more. There are a lot of people on GW that got Pandigitals too. the lookbook reader I got at CVS pharmacy when they had them on for $49 it only does ereader functions and does color and have wifi and is linked with the kobo bookstore. http://www.pandigital.net/

I've had a Kindle for several years and the only thing I don't like about it is I can't leaf through the pages to find a reference. I don't have any sentimental attachment to "real" books and appreciate not having to decide if I like a book enough to keep it on a shelf. I do wish I could share Kindle books with people who don't own one, but I am unwilling to lend them my Kindle. I know some people swap the actual Kindle among friends and family who also own Kindles, but I don't have anyone close who also owns a one. It is so much more portable than a book and I always seem to haul around a lot of stuff so the small size is great. If I could afford it I would love to have a tablet to read on and to nuts around on while watching TV. However, I need one that I can download and read Amazon Kindle offerings on. I like dealing with Amazon. I am a terrible pragmatist and can't understand why a lot of people feel strongly that a real book is more pleasant than a Kindle. However, I do wish Kindle book pages were numbered so I could easily skip around and find a desired passage. If anything were to happen to my Kindle I would immediately buy another because I don't want to give up the convenience of an e-reader. If Kindle came out in a tablet with a display as astounding as the I-Pad Retina I would buy it immediately. So far, they haven't matched the fabulous clarity of the Retina. Nancy

Chessey, It's only the Kindle books that are published by Penguin. I'm still on the waiting list for Michael Connelly and that still is in the Kindle format, being the publisher isn't Penguin. Sue Grafton books are Penguin, some of the Nora Robert's (J.D. Robb) books are Penguin, and these arn't available in Kindle format anymore just EPUB and PDF.

Download the free (and very reputable) Calibre program and then you can get the library books in ePUB format and convert them to Kindle (.azw) format.

Pam_25f -- I don't know why Windows Player is entering into this at all. Download the Kindle book to your computer, and make note of where you've saved it. It's easiest if you create a folder and name it "Kindle downloads" or something like that. Connect your Kindle to your computer using the USB cable that came with the Kindle. Now, open "My Computer" and go to the folder where you downloaded the Kindle book. Now, do the "copy/paste" thing to copy it to the "Documents" folder on your Kindle. Disconnect your Kindle from the computer, and you'll have the book on it, available to read.
