I'm picking friend up at 11:00. We have reservations for 11:30.

Whenever I make it! My plans fell through again so it's just me today so I'm cooking my favorites at a very leisurely and relaxed pace. Just put a pumpkin cream pie in the fridge and I'll be making some other yummy stuff later.

The family member who traditionaly carves the turkey announced by email to all 18 of those that are assembling around our table that dinner would be served at 4:53 pm. So be it!

I'll be thinking of you all tomorrow. Our T-day is going to be on Friday this year, because of various travel schedules, not to mention the several people who wanted to have dinner at their in-laws AND wanted to have dinner at DD's. I'm actually pleased ~~ for once, I won't be rushing home from work to start the prep for all the veggie dishes. Five vegs this year: cream-cheese/chili corn, harvard beets, gingered carrots & pears, snap peas (a change from the spinach squares), and a broccoli/cauliflower dish that has a nutmeg/cheddar sauce. Tried this last year and it was a success. 1 big bag of baby carrots, thoroughly rinsed, and the fat ones cut in half lengthwise. Dump in big pot of lightly salted boiling water, let boil for 10 minutes. While the carrots are cooking, open and drain a can of sliced pears -- this year, I'll have to slice halves, no pre-sliced in stock at the store. Put about Â½ cup of pear jelly [or pear jam or apple jelly] in a small bowl and nuke just until warm and mostly melted. Stir Â½ teaspoon ground ginger OR 1 teaspoon finely grated fresh ginger into the melted jelly. Taste jelly and add more ginger if needed (you should be able to clearly taste the ginger). Depending on how many carrots, you may need to double the gingered jelly. Drain the carrots and dump into a large bowl. Pour the gingered jelly over and stir until all carrots are coated. Fold in the pear slices. For the dinner, it does very well on a warming tray, not going mushy. Have a good day, and may all your Thanksgiving dishes be wonderful.

Same here concerning the green bean casserole. Too common after so many years and I never really liked it that much, anyway. Yams or sweet potatoes, yes; but not always with the little marshmallows. Sometimes I do a tropical dish with pineapple and a bit of coconut in them, with some butter and a touch of brown sugar. It seems to go over well, and is a bit different than the marshmallow overload! But always sage and onion dressing; that never changes, and of course homemade gravy and cranberry sauce!

When all of our family (that lives here in town) always got together we would set up 3 or 4 tables and play pitch. Some would go through the paper to see what items they were going to head out for on Black Friday. and others would just sit and talk. But now each family has grown and we kind of just stayed with our own family. After losing 4 family members last year it went that way. I'm not liking it...I miss getting together with them all. My daughters are going to their spouses side of the family this year so it will be just our son and his girl friend with us tomorrow. One daughter will be coming later and we will have a game night Then on Saturday we will have another Thanksgiving day with the girls and Jeff if he wants. lol....aren't you sorry you ask. patti

I don't even eat sweet potatoes? ______________________________ Eggless Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe By: Carolyn "This sweet potato casserole is topped with brown sugar and pecans. A family favorite!" Ingredients 6 sweet potato -- cooked, peeled and mashed 1/4 cup evaporated milk 1/4 cup orange juice 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup white sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons butter, melted 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/3 cup butter, melted 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 cup chopped pecans Directions Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease one 2 quart casserole dish and set aside. Blend together the sweet potatoes, evaporated milk, orange juice, vanilla, sugar, salt, 3 tablespoons butter, nutmeg and cinnamon. Pour into prepared casserole dish. Prepare the topping by mixing together the 1/3 cup butter, brown sugar, flour and pecans. Sprinkle over casserole and bake for 45 minutes or until hot. Our reservations are for 1:00. After, we'll pop into my brother's to say 'hello'--they're eating at 5, but we'll be on our way to the country, and won't stay for dinner.

We are having our family dinner between 12:30 and 1:00. I have all of my foods ready and waiting to be bagged up to take. We count our blessings today even though part of our family can not join us. Happy Thanksgiving all.

4PM.
And it will be ready...stuffed turkey, then put it in the oven at 8AM(21 lbs). Giblets simmering on top of the stove with celery and onions, for giblet gravy.
All other prep work was done yesterday.

Table is set, bowls ready for food.

Got nothing to do but relax for the next 3 hours.

Around 2 p.m. It will be my Stepson and myself. I will take plates of food to a fella from church who has no family. My oldest Grandson will be here for dinner, so we will have TWO Thanksgivings!

DS and I ate at Cracker Barrel last evening so that was our Thanksgiving Dinner. In the old days T Day dinner was around 4 in the afternoon.

I'm not sure. Probably around 5:00 - 6:00. Finally finished the prep work and cleaned up my mess. I'm running behind because of the bloody finger. I sound English but I mean it literally. LOL Usually I have all my prep work done the day before. I still have to vacuum and set the table. I hope you have a wonderful dinner.

Our 2 daughters are arriving at 4 for appetizers. Turkey dinner at 5- the breast is in the oven since 2 pm. Table is set. I'm gonna relax and watch Miracle on 34th Street.

1:00pm at Knott's Berry Farm followed by a walk through their Holiday Craft Faire and amusement park and ending with Snoopy on Ice show. Our yearly tradition for over 20 years.

Went to the hog trough about 1PM with a lady friend. Sat there enjoyed a great meal. Food was unusually good today at least to me. I couldn't eat too much, didn't need to, but was so full I didn't bother with dessert. Didn't need to. Have a key lime pie and 2 pecan pies in the frig just waiting for me. The cat just finished her treat of a piece of ham I smuggled out for her and she definitely appreciated it. She was looking for seconds too.

Had a great meal around 3pm of Turkey, 2 kinds of stuffing, one with apples, pears and veggies (really good!) that had been mixed with stuffing mix and baked and all the other stuff at granddaughters along with her 2 little ones and many other relatives and friends. All I took was 2 pies and ice cream. Great Time!

About 4 pm I think. Not that I will be eating it - I have a bad eye infection - eye keeps swelling shut, and the antibiotics haven't kicked in yet. I'm not comfortable, definitely not in a sociable frame of mind. Dh went to dinner - it's at his parents house. I'm taking vicodin, eating shortcake, and enjoying time to rest. I'm glad that the rest of the family is enjoying dinner even if I'm not there!
