Have her rub olive oil on her hands after she showers or washes her hands a lot. Coconut oil works great too.

Almond oil is good, too. With any oil, make sure the skin is damp when it goes on, so it will soak in. Petroleum-based products make things worse (just as most chapsticks become addictive because they tend to dry out your lips).

My daughter gave me a set of three Crabtree & Evelyn Hand Therapy creams. They're marvelous, but a bit pricey.

Any brand of hand lotion applied after washing and while they are still damp, every time she washes her hands. I use Vaseline intensive during the day and plain Vaseline at night if I have a problem. I also use Vaseline on my feet at night when they start to get "horny". LOL It helps if you sleep in cotton gloves or cotton socks after applying Vaseline at night.

Only thing I ever use on my hands/feet is Neutrogena Hand CREAM!! Years ago my friends husband worked for Flowers Bakery and delivered bread,etc. to the grocery stores. He was out in the bitter cold at 3am, handling metal bread racks. His hands dried out so bad they cracked and would bleed. He went to the Dr. and the Dr. told him to use Murphy's Oil Soap when he washed his hands and follow with Neutrogena Hand Cream. Worked like a charm.

I never, ever use lotion and don't use cream that is massed produced. For the last 10 years I've been buying shea butter off of eBay. You'll see many commercial products that have a smidge of Shea Butter added to their product but this is the real mccoy.

I actually found sellers on eBay, but I've been using a particular one so we don't go through the middle man anymore. She's a nice lady that lives in Kansas and makes these products at home. They're absolutely amazing and affordable and packaged in plain white jars. It's amazing how you can become seduced by pretty packaging in the stores and the wonderful scents. But my nilotica shea butter has a very faint scent and she makes body butters with essential oils that are to die for. I have a feeling we're not allowed to post a link or I would.

I love Bath and Body Works body butter.

Right now I have an almost empty container of Cucumber Melon.

i'm a philosophy girl so i mostly use their hand creams, lotions and butters. i do have Neutrogena fast absorbing hand cream at work too. i like the other Neutro heavy cream but not the smell. ~ liz

Actually, one of the best things you can use for dry skin is safflower oil. It's a component in many pricey cream/lotions, but using it from the bottle in your kitchen works just fine. Only takes a tiny bit, and because safflower is such a light oil, it doesn't leave you feeling greasy or slimey. It's also an excellant remedy for dry hair--but again, use just a few drops, rubbed into your palms, then worked into your hair. That's all it takes.

I have always used hand creams rather than lotions.

Sandy, my daughter uses the same as she uses on her nipples (breast feeding, you know). She says she hasn't had such soft nice skin on her hands ever.

I second the thought about cream, my stuff is a cream in the jar.

Makes sence. I personally use bag balm. Works great and no purfumes. For hands I will use it once in the morning and again at night. For dry feet in the winter, after showering and before I put my socks on. The only draw back is if I don't get it rubbed in all the way, the feet slide around in my shoes for a little while.

I'll think about it......and maybe see if my health food store sells something similar. (Yeah--probably for $20. LOL)

two.25acres > LOL same thing happens to me with the Burts Bees Salve, my feet slide around too, but not for long. And it works SO good, I use it all year round.

I use Olive Cream, it's made by Fernwood Soap in Maryland. She comes to a local historical festival every year and I pick it up there, enough to last me the winter. Same with her lip balm, I love the lemon!

This is the BEST stuff. DSIL uses it, he used to work outside with cattle and in ND you know you can't always have gloves on to do stuff.
DD Heather gave us a jar of it . AMAZING.It is a thick cream a little goes a long way. I just ordered 3 jars. We like the green jars best. You can use it on hands and feet. I know there is a different forumula for feet, but DD compared them and its the same ingredient for ingredient. Might more more of something but the same thing, so we just use the green jar.

The best stuff I have ever used is the Working Hands stuff from O'Keefes.
I ordered some on line about two weeks ago and loved it so much, I have gotten some for DDIL for Christmas and some for SSIL.
My DH had a huge mess of dry, scaly skin on his elbow....looked horrible. He used it twice and now his skin looks normal.
It is amazing stuff.
I found some locally at our hardware store but it is cheaper if you order the three pack of Working Hands, the stuff for the feet and the one called Life Out There.

I am so glad you like it Carol! I wondered if you did or not. DSIL's sister bought him some first, DD saw what it did for his hands, tried it on herself and gave some to other DD and us. We were all sold on it within a couple days!

Thanks Connie and Carol!! I remember Connie talking about this last year and wanted to order it then....just did! Better late than never, right? Poor DH suffers with the driest hands, his fingertips crack from the cold, dry air every winter. Hope this does it for him, we have tried so many things.

Did I say it was concentrated? You will have to experiment a bit to make sure you don't get too much.

wow, I didn't know there was that much difference between creams and lotions.

I just buy the walmart Equate lotion and use it liberally all over my body after my shower. I do go through a a lot of it.
My hands are dry, so I should find a cream and see if that helps.

I have both but would say I prefer creams.
I also have Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula in a jar which
is nice and smells good too!
