I've posted this story before but I think it is funny. When we lived in Butte MT, a few couples were coming to our house for cards, so I asked my son to go to the liquor store for a bottle of hootch so I could serve cocktails. On his way back he decided to stop at a C-store for cigs, and saw Charlie Daniels standing by his bus. Brian stopped and talked with him and when Charley saw the bottle on the seat next to him, Charlie said he wouldn't mind taking a pull off of it. Brian handed him the bottle and Charlie tipped it up and took a drink. When Brian came in he was so excited, saying you'll never guess who took a drink out of this bottle. I asked him how did Charley look, Brian said just like on TV, big white cowboy hat, beard and you could see he had a lump of chew in his cheek. I looked at the bottle and thought.....I sure hope there wasn;t any floaters in there! We didn't use that liquor, and I'm not sure what ever happened to it, maybe Brian and his friends took it. If Charlie had signed it, I would have kept it.

Andy Gibb. He had a parachute lesson before mine in Las Vegas's Fly Away.

George Burns. He was filming Oh God ll @ Ceasars. We were staying there.

Nicholas Cage. He was filming that Con-Air movie @ the Dunes in Vegas.

Having worked for many years backstage in a theatre that shows Broadway productions, I've met many celebrities. I'd have to say the rudest was Yul Brynner, ludest was Richard Burton, biggest diva was Liz Taylor, funniest was Tony Curtis, kindest was Carol Burnett and Liza Minelli, worst manners was Peter O'Toole, biotchiest was Katharine Hepburn, and I'd say the all round least demanding, chivalrous and thoughtful celebrity was John Travolta.

Paul Newman filmed Slapshot here, he used our office basement as a lounge.

Tom Cruise filmed All the Right Moves, the big football game at the end was filmed across the street from my apartment.

Charles Bronson is from here originally so we were often treated to seeing him when he visited.

Jane Pauley when I was in NYC, wow is she tiny!

Julian Lennon was in the US Air Club with us.

Dustin Hoffman.....last September Joe and I were in NYC on vacation. We were walking down Central Park West and saw him talking to a couple. I stopped and zoomed in to take his pic, fully intending to be discreet and keep walking. But he said hello and asked if we wanted our picture taken with him. Of course we said yes! We had a chat, he was very very nice. Made my day!!

Tom Cochrane (Canadian singer) - back when I was in university (over 20 years ago) my roommate had chest pains so I went to emergency with her. While she was getting checked out I was watching tv in the waiting room, there was a young guy there as well. A music video of Tom Cochrane came on and the guy told me that he would be coming to the hospital after his concert to get checked out. It just so happened that after my friend was done and we were walking out the door Tom Cochrane and another man walked in at the exact same time.

Donovan Bailey (Olympic athlete) - Joe created Donovan's website way back before Donovan had one and eventually Donovan hired Joe to do it full time. I met him twice, once in Victoria, BC when he was training for the Olympics and another time when he came to St. John's as a spokesperson for the Canadian Lung Association.

Bruny Surin (Olympic athlete) - met him in Victoria, BC when we were having dinner with Donovan one evening.

James Cameron, Suzy Amis, Bill Paxton & Gloria Stuart - several years ago they were on an exploration ship in St. John's harbour, at the dock. Cameron was filming a scene for something. He and Paxton were on the deck of the ship and Suzy Amis and Gloria Sturart were on the dock, only a few feet away from me, Joe, my sister & brother-in-law. We were out for a drive one evening and saw bright lights and a small crowd on the dock so we stopped to see what was going on. Cameron talked to the crowd and joked with us, he and his crew were very friendly.

Mike Holmes (Canadian TV personality, host of "Holmes on Homes") - saw him walking through the Halifax airport earlier this year.

A local singer, Alan Doyle from Great Big Sea (he was also in the recent Robin Hood movie with Russell Crowe)....he lives here so every now and then I'll see him walking down the street or at Costco or Tim Hortons.

I waited on Chuck Berry once in the late 70's. He was a bad tipper... or maybe I was just a bad waitress? lol He did frequent the restaurant I worked in, but I only waited on him the one time. Can't think of any others, we don't get too many celebrities here in the midwest.

When we were oriental rug shopping in Palo Alto many years ago & stopped in a bakery there for a sweet treat, I saw a young woman who looked very familiar. After we got back in our car, I realized it was Debbie Thomas, who was the first African-American woman to place (I think bronze) in the previous Winter Olympics for figure skating. I recalled that she was then a student at Stanford.

Years ago, in Las Vegas, DH and I were having a very late (or early) meal in a coffee shop and sitting across the aisle from us was George Gobel of "You Dirty Bird" fame. He was friendly.
And, again in another coffee shop, this time in a very small northern California town, Clint Eastwood walked in. He smiled and nodded to us on his way past into the dining room. And after we ate, we exited via the dining room and he wished us a pleasant stay on our vacation.

Saw Andie McDowell with her daughter last year buying coffee at a Starbucks in downtown Atlanta. She wasn't dressed up or wearing heavy makeup like you might expect a movie star to be. She was very pretty, and I tried not to stare. She's the only celebrity I think I've ever seen, I don't get out much, LOL.

I shook hands with Bobby Kennedy at SFO shortly after he announced his candidacy for President in '68.

I volunteered in Senator Ted Kennedy's office.

Chatted with Sonny & Cher several times when my aunt was traveling with them when Chastity was a baby.

Met Averrell Harriman and other politicians when I worked for Senator Edmund Muskie. Around this same time I saw Roger Mudd and Dan Rather on Capitol Hill. I rode in an elevator with Barry Goldwater.

I kept autograph seekers away from Joe Montana when he and his family attended his SIL's graduation from college. Afterward he shook my hand and thanked me for doing a great job.

I have pictures of me with Tony Bennett, Harrison Ford. Pres. Obama, Joe Biden and Bill Clinton. Also with Sen. Muskie circa 1971.

I saw Hillary Clinton up close when she was campaigning in Iowa. Same with John Edwards.

I am sure there are others that I can't remember at the moment.

I saw Marlena Dietrich at 30 Rock

I saw Bob Hope when I was working at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Golf Club in the 70's. I saw Arnold also.

My mother said that Harry Truman stopped to 'admire' me on Michigan Avenue. I was about four. This was back in the days when a President felt safe walking along a street in the sunshine on a Sunday afternoon. (sad)

Xavier Cugat and Abbe Lane signed my menu at the Edgewater Beach Hotel when they were entertaining there. This gave my DF the brilliant idea to send me a full size set of xylophones -- when what DM and I needed was to have the mortgage paid. (Now all you old folks can explain to the young-un's who this band leader and his songstress were, and how old I must be to have heard them!) Years later DH and I visited a Kauai restaurant owned by Cugat's subsequent singer/girlfriend, Charo.

I saw JFK at a rally in Madison when he began is run for President -- along with a few thousand *other* people in the stadium. lol

I met Alex Haley in Milwaukee one day when my DH's company was donating something to a school.

DH and I were walking through the Villa d'Este at Lake Como one evening before dinner and heard the unique voice of Albert Hitchcock -- a few seconds before we came upon his rotund self seated in the lounge.

DH and I were on "Oprah" speaking out for open adoption records. (Always remember who is the STAR and who are the 'little people'.)

DH was protected or guarded several politicians and sports figures when he worked as an Andy Frain usher before starting college, and again when he worked in the PR department of his company.

Harrison Ford attended my HS, but two classes behind me. He was a typically geek-y audio-visual helper. (But then, aren't most HS underclassmen sort of pathetic-looking?)

I saw Little Richard in front of Mann's Chinese Theater. He was in a limo that just pulled up to the curb in front of us. He was handing out a religious book he had written. I was kind of surprised that he wore so much makeup.

Later that night we walked through the Bonaventure Hotel and looked down over a balcony to the next floor and saw people arriving for one of Liz Taylor's AID's benefits. We saw a lot of famous people walk in. My favorites were Sheree Wilson who played April on Dallas and Mrs. Garret from Facts of Life. The funny thing was that the paparazzi spent the most of their time with Gerardo.

I've seen Bill Clinton in various places in Little Rock just walking around when he was governor. Friends and I saw him at Mc Donalds near the Excelsior Hotel making a phone call at the pay phone.

I went to a high school event one time at the Little Rock State Capitol. Hillary Clinton gave a talk, but acted like she didn't want to be there. She was sitting down and resting her head on her hands while she was talking. As we left, Bill was walking around the capitol grounds shaking hands.

I don't know. I'm not even sure what a celebrity is. LOL

Seriously growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area was a different scene from middle a America. I was a weekend hippy during the 60's s and I had a "cousin" who was in the music biz. I ran with a bunch who did a lot of security so I was backstage a lot. We would also go to concerts and party with the a bands later in the houses the Haight. There wasn't a line drawn between celebrity and regular people during that time. (Janis, The Dead, Jefferson Airplane etc.)

Then there are quite a few infamous that I've known. Just the other day I was thing king about how I used to swim with the guy who "invented" the blue box that Steve Wozniak (Apple) ended up selling underground. We used to call all over Europe just for kicks. Or t stream out of state t radio through the phone lines. This was before the term "hacker" became a household word.

We also have tons of celebrity sports figures living here. Just a few weeks ago DD and DS ended up chatting with the 49ers coach while they were pumping gas around the corner from my house.

I live amongst Sharks,SF Giants, 49ers and Raiders.

I met Henry Winkler at a movie theater where he was promoting his first movie since Happy Days ended.

Don't know if this counts but I interviewed 50 Rock & Roll artists when I was on the air in Radio and have LOTS of autographs, emails & photos in my collection.

I'm probably the only one that has never met a single famous person. Oh wait, I take that back. I met a guy who ran the tourch for one of the olympics. I have no idea who it was though. A friend I was with recognized him. When she asked him if he was the one, he said she was the first person that had ever recognized him. He said he wasn't famous. I'm thinking he was some type of athlete. He was a nice man but apparantly not really famous.

Alex Trebeck hosted a couple of the Bake-Offs, when I competed--he's NOT a particularly friendly person, even when being paid to be so. Very grumpy and stand-offish.

Sarah Moulton was a judge at another competition. What a sweetheart. There were only a handful of contestants at that competition, and we got to spend time with her. She's so down to earth, didn't feel as if we were in the presence of a celebrity at all. We all loved her.

My husband often visits the homes of pro sports players/coaches/announcers who live in our area in the course of doing his work. And we run into a lot of them in stores, restaurants, etc.

Know there must be others, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

I've never encountered anyone nationally/internationally well-known, but hub saw Robert Schuller, the televangelist, on a flight. He didn't know who he was, but was enlightened by a fellow passenger. He says Mr. Schuller was very sour-faced and grumpy. :o)

When we lived in Colorado Springs, I worked for a temp agency for a while and was sent to a local TV station for 2 weeks. It was interesting because I got to see the news anchors hub and I watched on TV every night in person. Turns out the ones we did not particularly like were the very nicest in person, and the 2 we thought were great were very unfriendly and stand-offish. The weatherman, however, was even nicer in person than on TV. :o)

Rev. Schuller comment above. Some time ago I came across a website with a forum where, among other things, waitpeople dished on celebrities they had served. One prominent mention was Rev. Schuller, who apparently was disliked on both Coasts by these people. A favorite of many seemed to be Bill Macy & his wife, who plays Leanette (sp?) on Desperate housewives.

When I posted earlier, I forgot to list Walter Cronkhite. I heard him speak at a lecture series. After it was over, I went up to him just as he was getting in a limo and asked for his autograph. He was rather rude and said he "didn't have time" and got in the limo and rode away. This was when he was a news anchor on CBS.

Mickey Mantle used to come and spend weekends at my brother's to fish, took him to the local honky-tonk a couple of times. Played blackjack with Frankie Avalon, from Disney, had drinks with Rod Stewart, ZZTopp, Aerosmith. Met OJ Simpson before the murders.
