I get my carpeting cleaned around Thanksgiving, it's hard to get a booking. Hope it turns out wonderful!

Am I the only one who bought their own carpet steamer?

Had mine professionally cleaned a couple of years ago. It cost TWICE as much to have them done as it did for me to buy my own home carpet cleaner. I know it's not as 'heavy duty' as the equipment the pro's use, but my carpets are just as clean. In one sense, they're cleaner--because since I've got the machine, I can pull it out anytime (and do) so they don't get as grimy as when you have to pay the big bucks and find a time to fit the pro's in. (also easier, because you can do one room at a time, so you still have someplace you can hang out).

I'd really recommend it--it's so much cheaper.

I clean my own, also. It's a big job for my LR, because it's a big room, with heavy furniture. So I do it over two days, moving the furniture to one side, clean, let dry. Next day, the second half. I also rinse my carpet, because some of the cleaners used do remove dirt, but leave a residue which will attract dirt. I like them rinsed.

I clean any spills or pet stains immediately. I do the whole carpet about 3 or 4 times a year. Upstairs, once a year is enough, because we usually kick off shoes before going up.

I should have said - it's an exhausting job!! I'd love to be able to get it done professionally as often as I do it!

Unfortunately, I haven't been best pleased with the large chains or the independents around where I live. That's why I bought my own machine.

I have my own machine also, but once a year get it done by Stanley!

I so enjoy having mine cleaned every 6 months.

My niece recently bought one because of their dog. I think she uses it weekly!

When dogs urinate on the carpeting it's the padding underneath that get wet. That is why the smell never goes away.Steam cleaning helps on a temporary basis.

Since you all were talking about Stanley Steamer, I called Mom to see who she planned on having do her carpets. She said she has decided on Chem Clean. I don't know if anyone else has this company in their area or not. Apparently, they don't make the carpet as wet. Next week I'm going down to help her move out some of the smaller furniture pieces, but I guess the Chem Clean guys will move the sofa,ect.She has carpet in her kitchen and hates it, it never looks clean and she's hoping they can make a difference in there.

Correction: not "Chem Clean", it's "ChemDry".

I have my own Bissell as well but I still have mine done professionally every other year. To me it is worth every penny!

So did you like Stanley Steemer, Bigack? I need to find someone to do ours. We don't have ChemDry in our area.

Just used my brand new Bissell for the first time today. My husband did most of it. It works great. My DIL bought it for us after grandson got a little red washable paint on my rug!

We no longer have carpeting, so don't have to worry about cleaning those. All hardwood upstairs.
