Any of you on facebook?

DD has talked so much about connecting with friends on facebook, so I decided to sign up. What I'm finding is that very few of my friends are there. DD suggests that I add some of her friends, but that's just pathetic. LOL Am I too old at age 60? It's embarrassing to have so few friends there!

Should I give up, or do you think more and more older people are jumping on that bandwagon?

I just started a facebook page for the market I sell at. I became the market manager this year and I'm trying to expand the market. This is the first time I have used facebook. Facebook isn't just about "friending" people you know face-to-face. It's about networking with people who have the same interests you have. If it wasn't for Facebook, I wouldn't talk to my cousins, who ALL live in The Netherlands. None of us like letter writing. Their emails get lost in all the spam I get. I have a lot of co-workers on FB and we have silly conversations on FB that we can't have at work. We don't all work the same shifts, so it's nice to talk on FB when it's convenient for us. I have friends who live in the US. We are a group of women (I mentioned our private group here a few days ago), and a few of us have met face-to-face. We used to use YahooGroups, but Facebook is so much easier to use. I belong to several colouring groups, photography groups, Calgary groups, etc., to get information directly from others. I learn more through FB about my hobbies than I do through Google, although quite often when I ask a question, I'll get sent to google... lol Facebook is addictive. It's fun. It's my way to keep up with my family because we are all so busy with our families, jobs and life in general. Do I really care what someone ate for breakfast? Nope. And they're probably not interested in what I ate either. But we post pictures and sometimes someone will say, "hey! You have a recipe for that? It looks delicious!". There is so much more than posting the food you eat or how the weather is.

Judy, I'm fairly new, so I didn't know what I was missing :) But it sounds as if you have touched a lot of people on the QF. I have had success in the past with a site www.missingfabrics.com You can scan a pic of the fabric & post it or Tricia will even post it for you if you send a small pc. Good luck w/your search! There's a huge upside to social media: It provides a venue to share things that should be shared. For instance, I belong to a network that posts about lost and found dogs and cats in a couple of local counties. The more people who can keep an eye out for lost pets, the better, and that's just one example. I rarely see all the silly stuff people mention when they talk about Facebook. Most of the things my friends post are informative, thought-provoking, or truly funny. One of my favorite words is "connectedness," and I feel particularly connected on FB. There I can find both current friends and friends from my childhood, as well as lots of relatives. The relatives include cousins I knew about but never met, and cousins I never before knew existed. In fact, a KT friend on Ancestry.com located a cousin for me that I'd always wondered about. Turned out she died months earlier, but her daughter was thrilled to hear from me--and drove three hours to visit me a few weeks ago. Connectedness.

Well Crap you guys...I signed up on Facebook a few weeks ago but have been too busy to do anything with it. It seems that I am missing out on all the fun. I haven't even had time to put up a picture of myeslf yet. I better get to it...

I wanted to see pics of great grandkids, so had to join Facebook. The only KT friend I have there is Jodi, so I'd better get with it. I felt sort of foolish at first as everyone seemed so darned young, but it's OK now.

I just finished looking at the pictures of nicole's new baby on face book here on the kitchen table forum, what beautiful pictures. I haven't signed up with face book yet, I'm still working on the Photobucket which I love.

I have a facebook page. Most of the people I keep in contact with are family and people I either presently work with, or used to work with. I only found one childhood friend on Facebook. Being female, I think everyone I went to school with changed their last names when they got married. I hyphenate my maiden name with my married name so people might be able to find me easier.

I am on Facebook, mainly to keep in touch with friends and family or those at school. I have added Jodi, not sure how to add a group. I have been at the KT since 2001.

I am on Facebook too. I am friend of Nicole's - see if you can find me. LOL

Facebook takes too long to access with Webtv so I can only check it out for now when I am at a friend or relatives house. I love it because I can see pictures of my nieces and nephews My niece Meagen lives in Toronto and she is really into photography right now so I love to see her pictures.

I am also in touch with some old school friends and long lost cousins through Facebook.

The Facebook page should be by invitation only, actually. I really don't want my family posting there. LOL Seriously............. I don't tell people I post here. And they will have access to the Facebook page and comments I make there if it's not a private page.

Okay, I just signed up with Facebook and it put me on a network. It says "Caspar". I don't work and it automatically put me into a Caspar network as though I work there. I can edit everything except the place to the left of the screen still shows that I "joined" the Caspar network. How do I get off of that? And what is network based on anyway...work? location?

I shoulda waited for DD or DGD to get here on Sat. Grrrr!

At the urgings of my sisters, I joined facebook a few months ago. I was skeptical, but now I am connecting to cousins that I hardly ever talked with before! It's been a lot of fun. If you search Sheryl Jones Cooper, you will find me.
