I'm on there way too much every day. A majority of my stuff on there regards animal rescue, abuse, and also feel good rescue stories, and pictures of those who need to be saved. I also have much political stuff, since I'm politically involved in many issues.

I find the Facebook and Twitter phenomena amusing. I don't understand it. Why does anyone think that others have any interest in the details of what's often their mundane, everyday lives? Teenagers and young adults? Fine. But once you pass 25, I'd think you'd be too busy living your life to allow much time to spend hours simply talking about it.

Those who create Facebook pages and blogs mostly about themselves seem very narcissistic to me. Like really, who cares?

I guess the only difference I can see between them is here you get to be rude to everybody everytime you post versus there you have to be invited to be Friends and when they learn which ones are rude they get to choose not to let them be friends....maybe that's why some have chosen to be on Facebook instead of here so often.

Of course that's just a theory of mine so feel free to completely disregard if you choose.

Yes I Facebook..I have brothers and sisters in 3 different states and now A niece in Kuwait. So picking up the phone is not always an option. They get on Facebook and update their lives when they can and I know they are safe and sound. and be an active part of all of their boring mundane lives and they mine.

I've had the same discussion with many of my friends and family, what I said seems to be a prevailing view among them. Maybe Facebook love or scorn varies by demographics, I don't know. It's been reported that Facebook use is in decline, maybe as a result of competition and people getting bored with it.

I enjoy Facebook. My friend list is limited mostly to family, close (current) friends, and old friends that I have been out of contact with in the past, but am now really happy to reconnect with. I get to see photographs and catch glimpses into what people are doing from day to day and they do the same with me. Am I interested in every little thing people post? Of course not. Nor am I interested in every post on KT. But in both places, I am interested in some of the posts and those are what make the sites worth using. So far as I can see, Facebook is a forum (like KT) with enhancements.

I have a FB account, using one of my cat's names.
I have a few friends, and really, "tired, time to go to bed". (just go, why advertise it?) "Spent all day on FB got nothing else done."

I do browse facebook often, post about once a week.
(last week I posted a picture of wild turkeys standing on my car!)

I am member of several local "yard sale" sites, too, (bought and sold quite a few things that way...much better than craigslist...I can check out mutual friends before we meet and quite often we have several.)

I do agree some people post annoying mundane things...If I get tired of it I either scroll by or hide their posts.

I hate when someone posts personal or cryptic messages like "Karma's a B****, you know who you are..." or
"I hope I get the phone call I have been waiting for..."

But, I do like to rejoice with friends when there's a baby, a wedding, a birthday, a new house, anything that makes someone happy enough to share.
I also want to know if someone is struggling... whether a death, an illness, or just a bad day.

Facebook has allowed me to find and reconnect with old friends. (my 77 year old mother uses facebook and has found friends she thought were dead)

Its really not so different than the KT. We all share our ups and downs, pictures of grandchildren, recipes and "what are you doing today"
Here we ask for opinions, advice, prayers, help. All is readily offered....I truly enjoy the "mundane-ness" of it all....and I am sure young people would find this forum terribly boring!

my two cents...

I have a huge family of relatives and love facebook in that I can imagine their lives even though I'm not with them. We all communicate to each other, my siblings and I have a private page and it's wonderful. To me, I can wake up every day and experience the love of an extended family via a new photo or story posted. I can privately chat with a single person or all my sibs at one time. Love that and then there are the games, what can I say? They're fun and I enjoy them.

I love facebook. I can share all with my family and friends.

I am not sure why you would want to friend strangers on your Facebook page?

Even though there are settings that limit who sees what, you still get to see things from those not your friend list.

I use Facebook as a fun way to connect with my daughters. As a joke, they created my page and a few of their friends are on my list. I have one cousin on the list.
Facebook has so many different components. Yes, sometimes people post trivial things, but often times what is said is not real, or an inside joke.
So, for example when joyful mentioned how many eggs someone had for breakfast, it might be a running gag between a few friends that you are in on.
I think Facebook has gotten out of hand. It was a way for college kids to connect, then it became useful to find long lost friends, now you can friend a department store! This, I think is silly.

I agree that this board is a lot like Facebook. I know more about some member's dietary habits than I do my own family, lol.

Also, way, way, way more people read posts here than they ever would your personal Facebook. The amount of traffic here that only reads and never responds is rather high.

I use Facebook but I am picky about who I add and I don't post very much.

On facebook you get to see how genius all your friends and family are and what exciting vacations they all take. I think if I see one more "I'm so much smarter than everyone else" type of "ecard" I'm going to just scream. Already unfriended one relative...HEEHEE! I am really not on FB for someone to critique my grammar and spelling mistakes, if I wanted that I would take some college courses and have the Professor do it! HAHA!

There's a huge upside to social media: It provides a venue to share things that should be shared. For instance, I belong to a network that posts about lost and found dogs and cats in a couple of local counties. The more people who can keep an eye out for lost pets, the better, and that's just one example.

I rarely see all the silly stuff people mention when they talk about Facebook. Most of the things my friends post are informative, thought-provoking, or truly funny.

One of my favorite words is "connectedness," and I feel particularly connected on FB. There I can find both current friends and friends from my childhood, as well as lots of relatives. The relatives include cousins I knew about but never met, and cousins I never before knew existed. In fact, a KT friend on Ancestry.com located a cousin for me that I'd always wondered about. Turned out she died months earlier, but her daughter was thrilled to hear from me--and drove three hours to visit me a few weeks ago. Connectedness.

Yes FB can be positive and can also be negative depending on who your "friends" are!

Lost and found dogs is one of the best things about FB in my opinion! I have seen a lot of lost dogs find their way back home because of FB so in that regard it is very positive! The shelters also use it for finding homes for their rescue animals which is beyond wonderful!

Just "unfriend" those people that constantly want to one up everyone else with their condescending "ecard" remarks. Like "I want to put my fist through my monitor every time I see a misspelled word"...hell if it weren't for my spell checker, I wouldn't be able to write...HAHA! Just be sure and check your own spelling if you are going to make fun of others for their misspellings! HA!
