Should Cursive Writing be Dropped in Schools?

Some of our provinces have, or are planning to drop teaching cursive writing. I know that some states as well, have dropped teaching it.

I write notes, shopping lists, my day-planner is paper, notes on the calendar. (not to mention hand-writing my recipes, but I'm weird that way). Printing said lists and notes would take longer where a quick scribble will do.

Cheque-writing is a thing of the past, so that excuse doesn't hold water, but isn't it nice to write something, or to read someone's writing? Don't you love getting a card in the mail?

I think if the kids of the future don't know how to write, they are missing out on a wonderful thing. Look at the old history books.

Reading our previous generations letters, journals and recipe books. Timeless, and very very personal.
