I don't want green eggs

Would someone post their 'recipe' for cooking eggs so the center isn't green? I'm doing deviled eggs and lost the directions I'd written up before, and didn't find anything in a search.

Leslie ~ I know you remove them from the heat as soon as they start boiling, but can't remember how long to let them sit. Wait a minute!!!!! I just googled perfect boiled eggs and came up with this. Hope it helps. Happy Turkey day.

I think the trick to that is to cool them off as fast as you can, I usually take them off the boil and start running cold water into them. If you let them cool off on their own the yolks turn green. HTH ;0)

Call nearby feed stores, and ask if they will take small orders from hatcheries. Just yesterday I called the local Wilco to ask if they would take a small order for Polish Crested chicks. They said no, they only sell standard, common breeds, and no special orders, but they suggested I check with another of their stores to see if they would do it. So, I called another store and they said "we have some Polish Cresteds here in the store right now"! It was an hour drive, but I came home with 6 tiny Polish Cresteds the same day! That particular store does take customer requests. I don't know if my 6 chicks were leftover from someone else's order of 25, or what. In any case I was lucky because I didn't want more than about 6 chicks. Ask around! I got my chicks in 3 phone calls.

Crushed granite won't take paint well. The black mica will just absorb it and stay black and some of the white minerals...paint won't stick to. There's also the health of the roses. That white/gray color will reflect sunlight. The darker the gravel, the more heat the ground will hold (and the happier the spider mites will be nearby). All that granite grit...can you grow any lavenders or rosemary? I remember there's a particular lavender that did well near Charlotte NC, and my local herb-y friends all plant their dry-land herbs in 'soil' that's like 90% chicken and or granite grit. Now about the grass you crave. I, too, have a love of the green grass of Canada. Not the coarse grasses that are preferred for our part of the world. But for the warmth and low heating bills, we pay a price and that price is ugly grass. We got a bit lost in western Toronto one time and...I didn't want to leave. Every home had grass that made me want to pull off my shoes and run barefoot. So soft and such a lovely shade of green. Reality bites, however, and those lovely grasses would be burned to a crispy disaster in my summer months. (I also have lusted over the thyme border in some photos of Prince Charles' Highgrove, until I started seeing how those thymes did in zone 6b/7a. Reality bites.) There's no easy answer. But just try to work with what works well in our zones, push a few plants here and there, and then watch the snow fall in Pennsylvania in October (on their beautiful green grass.)

Hi Plllog! "That is, I know it's possible, but might not be in your budget." See, there's the crux of it. This little beverage center idea of mine was not in the original budget. (Nor, alas, were new drywall in the livingroom and halls, the gorgeous walnut top on my used cabinet island, the matching gorgeous top that will soon be on the new media cabinet and the near full gut of the bathroom.) And we're still determined to get through remodeling our ugly duckling without taking out a loan or dipping into savings. Conventional wisdom says: Wait until the coffers are full again but that's so hard to do. First off, I'm a cheapskate. Even if the goose who laid the golden egg waddled up onto my deck and built a nest, I'm not sure I would willingly pay someone to mess up the walls I just paid to fix. Second, I'm not quite cheap enough. My new kitchen is starting to look pretty good but, gosh, it would look so much better if the microwave and coffee maker didn't take up so much room on that one counter. I'm willing to spend a little bit more to change that, especially since I'm going to have a piece of countertop leftover that should be just the right size. Still, it's nice to know that it's possible. Maybe when the coffers ARE full again I'll put a tile counter outside on my deck to shade the golden goose should she happen to wander by ;) Thanks for your help!

GreenDesigns - The color sample appears to be a yellowish cream that is mid-way between my trim color and the cabinet color. I knew it wasn't a perfect match but I did think I could live with it as it wasn't too different than my actual paint. I have no idea why the cabinet manufacturer didn't just use BM paint but they charged me $490 for the color match. breezygirl - All of my trim, there's a ton of it, is painted with Opaline. It goes well with most colors and looks quite neutral. It usually appears to be a warm white/cream but sometimes looks slightly yellowish. Next to my cabinets it looks white with a pinkish-gray cast. My cabinets look yellow with a greenish cast most of the time. Sometimes they just look quite yellow. blflenton - I think you and breezygirl are right - if I don't change these, it will drive me nuts or cost me a fortune in paint and furniture. I spoke with the owner of the cabinet showroom this morning. He's a really nice guy who sees the problem but isn't sure how to fix it (in a way that doesn't involve his money, I suppose). He's going to talk to the manufacturer and try to work out a resolution. The only upside to this problem is that I have lost three pounds in the last two weeks. So stressful!

Put the eggs into a pan of cold water and it bring to the boil, then remove from the heat and let the pan stand with its lid on for about seventeen minutes, finally cool the eggs with cold water.

This is the way I learned to do them, from the KT.

That's exactly right - the trick to not getting the green is to immediately take them from the stove to ice cold water. I did this just yesterday for the first time and the yolks were nice and yellow. I filled my sink with ice and water, drained the hot water off the eggs and put the pot down in the ice cold water.

I never have green eggs with this method.

Cover eggs with water and salt generously- bring to boil.
Cover, and turn off the burner. Let sit for 10 minutes (I set a timer).

Drain hot water and add ice and cold water to immediatly chill.

Peel the eggs under running cool water and refrigerate immediatly.

Works like a charm!

Actually you want hard cooked eggs, not boiled eggs. Put the eggs in cold salted water. Bring to a boil. Let stand covered for 20 minutes. Works every time. I once took them off before 20 minutes and they were not done.

The time depends a lot on whether or not your eggs are cold from the refrigerator or more at room temperature.
If I take them out of the fridge, put them in cold water, bring to a boil, etc......it takes 17 minutes.
