I don't know what color to paint my small dark kitchen.
Comments (10)I love your color paint. I really do. It looks like a paint color called Sangria by Benjamin Moore. A favorite of mine But... Your space is crying out for more lighting and someting to lift it from the heaviness of the cabinetry. You can transform this space with a new paint color. You are blessed with a light counter and this means you can do anything you want. Your kitchen What is your favorite color? What colors make you happy? Not sure, look in your closet? What color do you see lots of? What makes your heart smile when you put it on? Sunshine colors like this are always light. This can warm the room but not turn it to fire. PaleDaffodil by Benjamin Moore a super soft yellow that is creamy when it goes up and if you don't have a lot of undercab lighting can brighten the space. Sassy Blue Sherwin Williams is a soft blue that gives off lightness but will make your cabinets really rock. In a gloss finish this can bounce light around the room to reflect. Cooking Apple by Farrow and Ball paints. This is a great color with dark woods. Here is an example of a medium paint with white trim. Lenox Tan BM with white trim makes the dark cabinet in the room really stand out and give the space a lighter feel. Not oppressive. From a Gardenwebber. Yes, this kitchen has large windows which bring in the light, but notice the painted ceiling and the bright choice of color with dark cabinets. It helps to give this space a freshness. And this person kept a little red around the windows as clearly they love red. Don't rule out red accents for your space like your pretty picture on the backsplash. Use that as your guide. Lastly paint the ceiling if you can. White or one shade lighter than the wall paint. It really is the 5th wall in a room . Some other colors that I would love to put on your wall.... Pear Green by Benjamin Moore Chiffon Blue by Benjamin Moore. This is a great color with chocolate cabinets....See MoreFinally! A CL purchase for me! Don't laugh!
Comments (12)Nicole...My house is in a state of "on going repair". The three bedrooms are finished with white painted crown molding, baseboards, trim, new windows, and old painted doors. The original white oak floors were exposed, scraped and refinished. I love them. The living room will be tackled this spring. We're refinishing those white oak floors; I've been removing all the old plain oak trim as I wash and repair the walls. The LR and breakfast nook open to the kitchen and I'm having to treat them similar. I don't think I'll have any trim on the new LR windows; if there is it will be white. I have a handcrafted pine writing desk, but it's moving to the sewing room. I built a large pine bookcase 25 years ago; it lives in the den. The breakfast nook has a vintage bistro table with a cast iron base and a light maple top. Everything else in this room will be replaced. The table can be restained, or painted, or covered with a tablecloth. The walls will be some version of sage green, probably. The ceiling has just been painted white with a new ceiling fan and light fixtures. So, maybe I'll sand the cabinet and stain it walnut??? I'm going to have to think about it. I paid $115 for the cabinet. Not a $20 steal like some folks find, but considering our FreeCycle/Craig's List pickings are very slim here on the northern Great American Prairie, and what I would have paid for a press-board, plain, new, cabinet; I'm happy. The kitchen will probably have hickory cabinets; that's not set in stone though....See MoreI don't like my backsplash...Should I send it back?
Comments (30)It doesn't look that bad to me. The pattern would practically disappear with a like-colored grout and would just be a subtle texture. If the color is off (which is best determined in person and in different lighting) it might always annoy you which is a good reason to send it back. But the photos don't look any worse than some others I've seen posted that have been "oooh"ed and "ahhh"ed. I think if you had posted how much you loved it, you'd have had just as many agree. To me, the black hardware and wood valance "speaks" of a more country (vs urban) look. But I don't know the overall effect you're hoping to achieve....See MoreHelp-white cabs have a green undertone that I don't like!
Comments (7)GreenDesigns - The color sample appears to be a yellowish cream that is mid-way between my trim color and the cabinet color. I knew it wasn't a perfect match but I did think I could live with it as it wasn't too different than my actual paint. I have no idea why the cabinet manufacturer didn't just use BM paint but they charged me $490 for the color match. breezygirl - All of my trim, there's a ton of it, is painted with Opaline. It goes well with most colors and looks quite neutral. It usually appears to be a warm white/cream but sometimes looks slightly yellowish. Next to my cabinets it looks white with a pinkish-gray cast. My cabinets look yellow with a greenish cast most of the time. Sometimes they just look quite yellow. blflenton - I think you and breezygirl are right - if I don't change these, it will drive me nuts or cost me a fortune in paint and furniture. I spoke with the owner of the cabinet showroom this morning. He's a really nice guy who sees the problem but isn't sure how to fix it (in a way that doesn't involve his money, I suppose). He's going to talk to the manufacturer and try to work out a resolution. The only upside to this problem is that I have lost three pounds in the last two weeks. So stressful!...See Morelucretia1
