We have it usually twice a year.. once at the fish fry we have in the fall and again at Thanksgiving. Both times the dish is always the first to be gone.. so it is a hit here.

Not a big fan of GBC but its always served at Thanksgiving.

I try to cook from scratch....no cake mix,canned soup, no evaporated milk.....

DSIL bought it once for a holiday, I don't think half of it was gone after dinner and supper! I tried it for dinner and didn't like it at all! LOL I don't think anyone did, they tried it for dinner and skipped over it at supper. That was the only time we've ever had green bean casserole.

Nope, I think I ate it once and wasn't impressed with it. I'd rather have fresh green beans, please.

I'm with Flamingo, give me fresh green beans, I have eaten it, I have cooked it and it seems like it always ends up on the table somehow, made by someone but I'll take mine fresh ....

We don't really care for it here. I do make the green beans and mushroom soup together, the g-kids love it.

I DO like it and always happy when no one else does 'cause that means more for me!

I have never understood the hype over it. It just doesn't have much flavor to me. I like just plain green beans. LOL at that is looks like something the dog threw up!!!!

I make GBC several times during the course of a year.. and we both love it.. We are not snobs about using canned store bought items, but I nearly always use my own made from scratch ingredients, and home grown green Italian beans... Seldom any left at gatherings.... This year will be vegetables from our freezer that we grew in our own garden... and even the bird will be locally raised.

Altogether we both like casseroles... so I make them often..

I like it. Not crazy about it, but I like it.

I like it, but I didn't discover it until I was an adult. We never had it growing up, but now I look forward to it if I know someone will be making it for a holiday meal.

I used to like it a lot more than I do now, although I still like it. I think maybe I just started enjoying the other foods served along with it a lot more.

I make it because it is requested by family members and it is usually one of the first bowls to be emptied. I prefer green beans with a little seasoning, nothing else. Italian green beans are my favorite but I have never met a bean that I didn't like!

It's always on the table every Thanksgiving, but I don't know why. It looks awful.

I always take some just to be nice.

I've eaten it, and made it a couple times in my life, and it is yummy.... BUT I always look at it a think to myself.... Green Beans are so wonderful plain, why wreck them with all that calorie laiden, salt filled garbage!
I figure when you take a vegetable dish and add over 50% other stuff that is really lacking in nutrition -- it is no longer a vegetable side dish.

I wouldn't dare ruin my freshly picked and canned green beans from my sisters garden...but if I have to use canned from the store I might add a can of mushroom soup...I rarely go to the trouble to make the casserole...I've tasted it and wasn't all that choked up!

I don't care for any vegetables made into casseroles. I like my veggies to taste like what they are.

The nearest thing to a vegetable casserole I like is scalloped potatoes.

Our preference at my mother's and sister's was asparagus casserole.

Mix canned asparagus with English peas, cream of mushroom soup and top with canned onion rings. I still prefer that over green bean casserole.

I loved it years and years ago when it first got so rapidly popular....but I can't hardly eat it now...funny how our tastes change.

Can't think of a single dish I like that calls for canned soup. (I don't mind a bowl of canned soup on occasion, just don't like it as an ingredient in a recipe.)

I know the green bean casserole is a tradition for many people, but I did not grow up with it and don't see what is so wonderful about it. We prefer fresh veggies, and sometimes we have had green beans with toasted almonds. Much prefer that to the casserole.

The significant thing about the GBC is that there is NEVER ANY LEFTOVERS, so that tells you something. We all like it.

Our family was not overly crazy about it. To my DH (of 19 months) there has been no holiday without it. So DM always makes sure it's on our holiday tables now. He also gets it at His family dinners. He's spoiled and loves it. He's #8 of 9 kids, and #9 is only four minutes younger. I think both of them are spoiled, but they get their GBC. l.marie

I've made it, and I like it, but lately I've been stir-frying fresh green beans.

I get the big iron skillet almost red-hot. I add the green beans and a tiny bit of oil at the same time. The skillet is so hot the oil would flash it I poured it in alone.

As soon as the green beans hit the hot iron, they sizzle and I toss them about with a wooden spoon. After 2 minutes or less, I add crushed garlic, dried red pepper flakes, and a sprinkle of teriaki sauce, I give them about 30 more seconds or tossing around the hot skillet and pour them on a platter.

They come out with a wonderful crunch and bright green color. There are very dark brown carmelized areas, and fresh green areas on the same bean.

Be careful when the red pepper hits the hot iron. It makes a caustic pepper gas! Have the vent fan on during the entire process.

They are so, so good!

The secreat is in the super hot skillet.

Thankfully I didn't grow up with it and I doubt I could have been able to acquire the taste anyway. Now I'm not above using cream soups (I do enjoy a Tater Tot Hotdish and recently had my first hashbrown casserole which was OK) but not like this.

The only ones who made this at dinners or functions I've attended through the years are the ones who couldn't cook and one or two trying to be fashionable with the (then) current fads. Never got popular on menus here. Eat it if you like it though, I'll pass.

I'd rather have a good thick, bacon cheeseburger and fries than sugar coated "ham", maple syrup covered "turkey", the infamous green bean glop, brown sugar glazed "carrots", marshmallow covered, sugar covered sweet potatoes, cream cheese filled mashed "potatoes" and then look for something for dessert! I guess it's a balanced diet when you have a pound of sugar in each item! LOL

I would rather have a good old fashioned sweet potatoe casserole or the famous pineapple casserole ,my family so loves.
