We voted via absentee ballot last week. I'm glad it's done. I'll just be glad when the election is over. I'm so tired of all the political commercials.

I got up early and was at my voting place twenty minutes after it opened. Afterward, DH and I went to Starbucks and enjoyed our free coffee! Long lines at some places here in town, but we didn't have to wait more than ten minutes.

DH and I just got back from voting a little while ago.

I thought there would be long lines, but there wasn't.

All four members of my household voted today!

I voted earlier. I was happy to see my polling location was packed, with a few people waiting. Makes me feel pretty good. I know I wont be happy with some of the results but I can at least say I did my part.

Some troubling things have come from my two boys though. Some of the school yard and classroom discussions they brought home have made me so skeptical. We have tried to teach them that they shouldn't make a decision based on what mom and dad are saying. Do your homework and decide based on facts and YOUR beliefs. When the boys mentioned to kids at school that DH and I planned to vote for McCain, they started to get called racist. They are so upset now because it has become a label in the last few days. I'm glad to hear they are discussing "Hot Topics" but to now be grouped together as racists on this side and Obama supporters on the other, is WRONG and very disturbing. Is that what the other kids are getting from their parents?

I don't even watch our election coverage, but my tv has been on CNN for most of the night. I'm actually quite excited about this election and wish I could vote! LOL

I'm sorry your boys had to go through that Dani. There have been plenty of racial cards being played over the last 2 years but I have never once heard a McCain supporter say they were voting based on race. All those folks who hate those isms sure don't mind teaching their kids to use them. There needs to be a new ist word invented especially for them.

Just tell your boys the word racist can be every much a hate term as any other word. It's not the words,its how they are used. Always. No matter what anyone says. True bias and prejudice is hidden behind politically correct speech.

Race and skin color has been a non issue in our house. I've recently started to wonder if raising them that way has in fact been a disservice to them. Maybe I should have taught them about the differences in people instead of what makes us the same. I teach them that everybody has hopes and dreams and fears, and that everyone has the same choice to right or wrong. That life is harder for some than others, but that everyone has a constitutional right to freedom and the pursuit of happiness no matter who they are. Then my two go to school and get called "white Bread" and get teased in Spanish or called a racist because they thought one candidate was better than the other.

I can't help but think that this campaign will ultimately drive a larger wedge between races in this country. Doubt that was what Dr. King had in mind. If Barack Obama is worth anything at all he will work to unite instead of empower and divide.
