Anyone else think that 'travel' is a dirty word??? (pics)

From 2002 to 2006, my work required almost constant traveling and much of it on airplanes. I took a trip in 2004 where I was away from home (and on the road in different cities and hotels) for almost six weeks.

These days, I'm semi-retired from that work and now I have the deilghtful luxury of being able to stay near home. When I do travel, I either drive or take a train (which I just love). But truth be told, I have no burning desire to "see the world."

Been there. Done that. It was kinda fun at the time but these days, I'm so grateful to have a home of my home and to not have to run around.

Now I plant flowers in my yard and fiddle around the house and it is *immensely* enjoyable.

I'm almost 50 years old. Is that too young to drop anchor and stop traveling? My idea of heaven is being able to stay put and perhaps take occasional weekend jaunts to nearby places. I'm so very tired of running around and living out of luggage.

And a minor part of these is airline travel. I've come to loathe flying so very much. The long lines, the stuffy flights, the bouncy airplane rides (which make me airsick), flying is just a most unpleasant experience for me.

Anyone else here perfectly content to stay home for the rest of their lives? Tell me I'm not the only one...

Ah - and here's part of the reason I love being home. After years of wandering (I moved nine times in five years), I finally have a home of my own (a big one and a little one). This house really is my dream home.

Your home(s) are beautiful. WE have done a lot of traveling, and I told DH last year I am done flying. I just don't like it.
WE do like to travel around MN in our RV in the summer and we drive back and forth to FL every year, so I guess we're still traveling.
But I think we're done going to Mexico, Hawaii, etc.

Beautiful home! So stately. Love the colors, and the 'little home' is just adorable.

I can certainly understand your position on travelling. Normally, I love to travel, and will pretty much go anywhere, anytime, anyone invites me. But since we bought our second (retirement) home 3 months ago, I've pretty much limited my travelling to the 32 miles between the 2 places. And I just LOVE being at the 'new' house. Don't tell DH--but I sort of even like when I'm here by myself during the week--and I can get up when I want, eat what and when I want, stay up reading in bed half the night... Kind of nice being on my own. It's actually the first time in my life I've ever had that kind of independence, having gone from being my parents' daughter (living home) to my husband's wife in one day, back in the 70's.

Enjoy your new place--you've got a really good reason to be hanging around at home. Just lovely!

For 30 years, I was the cook for T-day, everything from bird and vegs to the pies. Packed it up and hauled 40 miles to SIL's house. Now, though, kids have grown up and most are half-way or all way to the other coast. We've spent the past 5 years jiggling variations -- from just adults and neighbors to one year of just DH and me (when I learned that even 1/2 small turkey breast provides leftovers for 2 weeks). The jiggling has settled into going to DD's house (15 miles). My DSIL does a 25+ lb turkey with stuffing and a tasty dish of brussel sprouts with chestnuts; I bring several veg dishes, assorted relatives and acquaintances bring more stuff. DD tries to coordinate so that we don't have duplicates -- and no doubt I make her life difficult because I keep changing my mind, trying to judge how much energy I will have after a full day's work, opposed to what I'd really like to cook- except that I don't have the eighteen hours for preparation. The weather is supposed to be heavy rain and gusty wind, diminishing late tomorrow morning. At last count, there will 14 of us, traveling from 15 to 75 miles to meet at DD's. We will range in age from 5 to 75, in height from 3 to 6 1/2 feet, in girth -let's not go there. There will be no native Amerinds; however, our cultural and genetic ancestry ranges from Egypt through the British Isles and most of the European countries. It really doesn't matter because we are all Americans, and supremely thankful for the opportunity to be together. Oh, and the TV is not turned on until after dinner; football fanatics are permitted to tape any desired programs.

I'm still in my red phase - - have been for a couple of years now. You can find some great reds for little money or you can pay alot, it all depends on what you want. I'll post pictures of one's in my garden. Forever Red and Sultan's Warrior are fairly inexpensive. Scarlet Lace and Potion for Passion are intermediate. Scarlet Lace has a nice bubbly gold edge while Potion for Passion has a wire edge. Then there are some higher priced ones... Then, there are the really expensive ones, and you will notice that I don't have any pictures of those! All of these do pretty well in the heat here in Georgia, but if it get into the mid-90's and the bloom is in full sun all day, they do tend to go downhill by the midd le of the afternoon. Of course, I would start to wilt far sooner than that if I had to stay out in the heat all day. Larry

"Large crops of pink, 8-10 oz that have a full, old-fashioned tomato flavor. Smooth, blemish free fruit are borne in large numbers over a concentrated time period, making this variety a favorite in Southern states for canning and eating. Strong determinate. 80 days, #4515 (30 seeds) $2.55" [Tomato Growers Supply seed blurb] My opinion is that description comes from somewhere other than a grower of Bradley, if you get my drift. I mean it seems to ape other seed blurbs for Bradley rather than the results I've experienced over the past 4 years growing Bradley. First of all, I agree with the 80 days to maturity from transplant. But I don't think I ever got a 10-ounce tomato off a Bradley plant. Maybe 8 ounces with plenty of them running 6 - 7 ounces. "Full, old fashioned flavor" maybe in a hot, dry summer but I'd describe it more on the sweet side of old fashioned and down right bland and watery if the season goes overly wet. Tends also to get soft inside with skin splits in overly wet conditions. I had some excellent results in containers, though, where I did get truly blemish free, 8 ounce, tasty fresh slicers. Concentrated set? Not so much. And surely not like many determinate canners that set one huge crop with maybe a second wind smaller crop then peter out completely. The Bradleys I've grown started yielding at 80 days from transplant and continued with reasonably generous yields until cool, low light conditions in autumn tended to shut them down or render the fruit tasteless. Bradley definitely is a producer though, and does have genes that are useful for increasing yield and standardizing fruit size when crossed with an heirloom like Cherokee Purple. I did that in 2007 and in 2008 grew the F1 that yielded more tomatoes of a uniform size (about 6 - 8 ounces) than any other regular size tomato in the garden ... like 8 - 12 fully ripe tomatoes per picking with two or three pickings a week at the peak season. Awesome. And in no way was the F1 Bradley x CP semi-anything. It was robust indeterminate and grew as long or longer than JD's Special C-Tex and Cherokee Purple as next door neighbors. Caroline1... I think my plants only fruit until frost because they're not done producing by that time... I'm a zone 5er and don't usually get them in the ground until early June or so... I've tried with Romas, and I like them due to their low acidity, but I never seem to get them above 3' or so and I never seem to get them to give me everything they have... All year I'll only get around 15 or so maters per plant... I just keep trying new stuff and seeing if I can get more...

I love your homes! I love to travel, preferably on the motorcycle, but I like planes too. We don't get to travel much. Guess that's why I would love to go almost anywhere to just get away and enjoy the rest of the country and world.

I sure can't blame you! I don't like to fly, and haven't since I was 5 months pregnant with DS (he's 21 now). Even tho I enjoyed our traveling before, I would get really nervous about it before we left. I don't care for hotels, much. Now that we have the motor home, I don't get nervous about going. I have my own bed, and my own bathroom, we can stop/stay where ever we want. It's great! It's my home away from home. And easier to clean! I love your houses! What is the little one considered?

While I hate to fly, I don't mind driving anywhere (now that I got a new car). I couldn't go to far with the old one, as I wasn't real sure about it. It ran okay but had lots of miles on it. For this year anyway, I'll probably not be going any farther than up to the river/cabin. It's a travel trailer, but I can't pull it. Maybe next winter, I'll find a driver who'll drive it down south for me.

I've always been a homebody. I do like to take day trips to surrounding areas and explore small towns etc. and I like an occasional one or two week vacation, but for the most part, I had rather be home than anywhere.

I am a homebody!! Don't care to travel at all...sometimes even to Des Moines (45miles) is too far for me! Would just rather stay home.

Having said that, our dream is to sell our home and live in a motor home...that would be my home moving on the road! It would be the best of both worlds for both Dean and I...he likes to drive and travel, I like to be home! =) I honestly don't see it ever happening for many reasons tho.

Well, you certainly are not the only one who would rather stay home than travel !!
I have been fortunate enough to have travelled to Europe many times and I do enjoy going to visit family and friends, but given the chance, I would always choose staying home.
Day trips are nice because it's always enjoyable to see and learn new things, but coming home is always the best.
I guess we are lucky to feel that way.

I'm a homebody, too. Part of the reason I'd rather stay home is my pets (2 cats and 2 greyhounds). I don't like to kennel them and there aren't too many vacation places that will allow them. I'm happier being home anyway, tho!

I'd love to travel, but I can't. I need kidney dialysis 3 times a week, so I can't get too far from home! Now I know why my parents never liked to travel. My favorite place is my own little home. I'm staying home for Thanksgiving, thank you very much!

I've never really like traveling...

Especially since I joined here....because all of you have told me so many skeeeeery things that you can find in motels...LOL

But truly...everytime we've ever taken a vacation I just dreaded going...I was okay once I got on the road but just didn't want to get started.

Same with visiting...I never want to go but have a good time when I get there.

I don't think I'll have to worry about traveling anymore anyway. Since Denny had that stroke...he's not big on traveling..He has a hard time feeling the gas pedal. He's okay driving around here. I don't drive long distances...I fall asleep at the wheel. Then there is the financial part of it too.
So we'll just stay home and enjoy being with each other,(well at least most of the time..hehe)

I do like to travel, but don't do as much an more...When the grand daughters were competing in Irish dance, we traveled all over the country and Ireland, but now they are in college, so it's an occasional weekend trip to see them....I do fly to Florida for a couple of months in the winter, DH will fly down for just a couple of weeks. He's the homebody and feels he needs to stay home and take care of the cats...We also have a son in N. Carolina that we visit but not as much as I'd like...Being retired, you'd think we could just pick up and go, but I've found it's harder now to fit it into the "schedule", plus, as Patti said, financial!

I know what you mean, I use to love to travel and now I hate it. Especially taking an airplane, just the thought of it gives me a headache. The last few trips have been barely tolerable. I would rather stay home too and I am only 56. I do miss travel by train, really enjoyed that.
Beautiful home, it is the same color scheme as mine.

I have traveled/lived all over the United States and Europe, but home, wherever it is, is best!! Now DH has to pressure me to get us on vacations. I CAN say however, that having grandbabies in other states is stong enticement for leaving home :^)

I love my home but i really enjoy traveling. I used to hate planes but have gotten over that and have flown 4 times this year and will again next month. I would rather travel than stay home all the time. There are so many places and people to visit. Hopefully this coming year I will be doing more driving trips and hopefully visit some of the KT'ers that keep begging me to come back. Life is too short to stay at home I can do that when I am too old to drive or fly.

Travel is exciting and wonderful.
Rest in between is essential.
Work is a dirty word! :-)

As many here know, I've traveled all over the world, from Alaska to Antarctica and all manners of places in between. I find world travel comfortable and stress-free. It's local travel (i.e., to work and back, city to city, *any* freeway driving) extremely stressful. In my 40 years in the work force I've never had a commute more than 10 miles. I'd rather starve.
