I don't know another language...wish I did.

However...my husband is fluent in Spanish.

By the way...I hope you enjoyed your four days off.

I am not fluent in any language other than English ,but I did take French and Spanish in school. There are times when that little bit of knowledge comes in handy.
I also feel strongly that if you come here to live it is your duty to learn the language not the other way around.

Fluent? No. But I'm pretty good in French. I learned in high school and college and took a brush-up course at the French Library in Boston before my first trip to France. I also met a retired schoolteacher on the train to Besancon who spent three hours correcting my French.:)

During my first trip to France, I was able to see a play, have an in-depth discussion about the French legal system with a prison guard I met in Aix-en-Provence, and help several Americans who were having trouble at a car rental place. I loved it!

I also know some Spanish, just enough to interview clients. I understand a lot more, simply from listening when the interpreters are talking. I had a year of Spanish in high school and took an adult-ed course at the local college.

Yes, I am. My first language is German. I was born and raised as a German.

Now, I live in Oklahoma.

I consider myself fluent in American English.

I wish I spoke another language, but I don't. I grew up with a German Grandmother and we spoke German together but she died when I was 8 and I forgot all of it. I took many yeaers of Spanish in high school and college but never became "conversational". I can understand a little bit if others speak Spanish in front of me, like at my local manicure salon. My best friend Sue knows so many languages, French, German, Italian. I wish I could say I am fluent in another language.

I took French in high school for four years. Then I hardly ever used it again. Last spring I spent a week in Paris and was surprised about how much of my high school French bubbled up, although not enough to carry on a conversation. So many people in Paris speak English, so I could always find someone to help (and by the way the Parisians are very nice).

Now I am taking a French class in order to refresh my skills. I wish I had learned a second language as a child when my brain was more elastic!

I have what I call 'menu French', and I'm able to comprehend about half of what's being said in a French movie -- before the English subtitles pop up. I was able to correspond with a French double-cousin I found while doing genealogy (writing solely in present tense and with aid of a French-English dictionary).

I understand some Portuguese, Italian and French, but can't say much.

my first language as a child was Cajun French then English, back then everyone spoke a lot of Cajun French especially any business was all handled in French so if we went to see the bank manager for instance that was all in French. All the music was in Cajun French too.
I also took all the French courses I could in High School and also at university, I was exempted up. I did also take several years of German and was pretty fluent but not much these days. I had a neighbor that was from Germany so we used to converse, I miss that now I have no one and I am losing it all.
I would love to have more languages under my belt.

Czech ~ both sets of grandparents came to America from the now Czech Republic; my mom and dad (born here) learned the language growing up from their parents.
